Since option to submit a portfolio was optional for architectural studies. If i choose not to submit one, would that affect my submission?

@@MrPoopst hey there! I personally submitted a portfolio because I had a really strong body of work. But since UofT says that it's optional, if you don't think it makes your application better/you don't have good pieces to show for, then don't include them. With that said, it's ultimately up to your discretion. Hope that helped :)

Thanks Mozie! Really happy you find these videos helpful. I'm using final cut pro btw, but if you're a beginner there are a lot of great (aka. free) alternatives out there like iMovie. That's actually a great video idea! I'll see what I can do :)

Hey!! I’m applying for the fall 2022 admission and I really liked some of the sentences you used. Do you think it would be okay to use some of them or would that be counted as plagiarism entirely?? My story is completely different but some lines just fit with my ideas as well.

Whatever you think encapsulates you best as a person and creative! Also keep in mind how many stories/examples you can go in depth with (could be 1, 2, etc.) given the word count.

Hi Raya! I found your content extremely helpful (thank you!!!). I just have a question about the portfolio: I have a portfolio similar to the one you submitted for Ryerson (mine was accepted into Pratt Institute), and I didn't realize that you can submit images that are formatted like such. According to the requirements on the One Idea website, it says to submit single images and should not include text descriptions. I'm wondering if we had different requirements, but if not, can I really submit selected pages from my Pratt portfolio (because all the text inside are rly just a title, the size, and the medium)? A reply would be so helpful, thank you!

If I remember correctly, you submit the supplementary application (portfolio/essay) around end of January after you apply to the school in November/December.

Hello! So for UofT I chose to upload my top 6 favourite pieces from my Ryerson architecture portfolio (that video is somewhere on my channel) and no, I didn't include the table of contents or title page. Hope that helps and good luck with your portfolio!

Using "you" and first person pronouns should be ok, bc the one idea questions are asking about YOUR experience/background/goals after all. Good luck on your applications Emily!

Not sure what you meant for the first question., but my essay was fine, so just copy that. For second question, I just wrote the date I completed the essay. Good luck on applications!

Hey Reya. I want to write about the content of me doing a specific thing in the One Idea Essay, however the specific thing is already mentioned in my application essay. Would it be a bad idea if i talk about the same content again but in One Idea essay. p.s. Im choosing the "express creativity" question and Im talking about designing a bulletin board with an unorthodox design

Hmm yes ideally pick something that's different, but as long as you write about something that's really thought provoking and "unorthodox" then you should be good. Hope that helps and good luck with your application!

I think the word count should be on the website as part of the instructions - I forget what it is exactly tho

Hehe glad to see you again :) Yes, to be an architect in Canada you need to have a master's degree. This is why (if you're dead set on being an architect) your undergrad will be super, super crucial to build your portfolio/skills for masters!

Yeah I think you do! My average was around 89 and I was accepted fairly early. But I did also submit a portfolio - so that likely influenced my acceptance as well. Good luck on your application!

Hmm while the prompt from UofT doesn't explicitly say that you need to write a title, I'd say to put one in anyway just because it'll give the admission officers more context and (hopefully) give them an easier time understanding the topic and purpose of your essay. So I’m not sure if you will be able to answer this question, but I had to ask: 1) what exactly are the requirements for the portfolio? I couldn’t find anything specific on the website 2) I haven’t taken art in my A levels ( 12th grade) but I did take art in my GCSES (11th grade) where I scored a B.does that put me at a disadvantage? The British education system is quite different to Canadian/American so no worries if you can’t answer it! Thank you 💗

Hi Maria! So for the UofT portfolio, it's optional, so that might be why you haven't been able to find specifics on the website. Also, as for grades I believe UofT only looks at the average of your top 6 grade 12 marks, so as long as those top marks are good then you shouldn't need to worry about your lower grades. Hope that helps and good luck with uni applications :)
