PEI
If you're a fan of Anne of Green Gables or just want a serene, relaxing vacation, check out Prince Edward Island. I share my vacation highlights so you can make the most out of your trip to Canada and PEI, the home of Lucy Maud Montgomery and the inspiration for Anne of Green Gables.
Prince Edward Island (PEI or P.E.I.; French: Île-du-Prince-Édouard) is a province of Canada consisting of the island of the same name, and several much smaller islands. Prince Edward Island is one of the three Maritime Provinces and is the smallest province in both land area and population. It is part of the traditional lands of the Mi'kmaq, and became a British colony in the 1700s and was federated into Canada as a province in 1873. Its capital is Charlottetown. According to the 2016 census, the province of Prince Edward Island has 142,907 residents.
The backbone of the economy is farming; it produces 25% of Canada's potatoes. The island has several informal names: "Garden of the Gulf," referring to the pastoral scenery and lush agricultural lands throughout the province; and "Birthplace of Confederation" or "Cradle of Confederation",[5] referring to the Charlottetown Conference in 1864, although PEI did not join Confederation until 1873, when it became the seventh Canadian province. Historically, PEI is one of Canada's older settlements and demographically still reflects older immigration to the country, with Celtic, Anglo-Saxon and French surnames being dominant to this day.
PEI is located about 200 kilometres (120 miles) north of Halifax, Nova Scotia and 600
Prince Edward Island is located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence, west of Cape Breton Island, north of the Nova Scotia peninsula, and east of New Brunswick. Its southern shore bounds the Northumberland Strait. The island has two urban areas. The largest surrounds Charlottetown Harbour, situated centrally on the island's southern shore, and consists of the capital city Charlottetown, and suburban towns Cornwall and Stratford and a developing urban fringe. A much smaller urban area surrounds Summerside Harbour, situated on the southern shore 40 km (25 mi) west of Charlottetown Harbour, and consists primarily of the city of Summerside. As with all natural harbours on the island, Charlottetown and Summerside harbours are created by rias.
The island's landscape is pastoral. Rolling hills, woods, reddish white sand beaches, ocean coves and the famous red soil have given Prince Edward Island a reputation as a province of outstanding natural beauty. The provincial government has enacted laws to preserve the landscape through regulation, although there is a lack of consistent enforcement, and an absence of province-wide zoning and land-use planning.[citation needed] Under the Planning Act of the province, municipalities have the option to assume responsibility for land-use planning through the development and adoption of official plans and land use bylaws. Thirty-one municipalities have taken responsibility for planning. In areas where municipalities have not assumed responsibility for planning, the Province remains responsible for development control. I HATE the fact you have to pay to get off Island, because of that I haven't left the Island since I was 3 years old. I'm glad I'll be able to go off island this summer for the first time in FOREVER, so I can actually see what people mean by Pei has red dirt cause I can kinda see it but to me that is what all dirt looks like. Oh, well the video was pretty good, it shows some of the great stuff about Pei!!!
Somebody seems proud of his wife :) (With good reason) Seriously, great vid! That Green Gables house is unbelievable. Thanks for posting!
I had fun watching your video. The changes are striking since I was last there in 1965 as a 16 year-old pedaling a bicycle from Maine! Mahalo (thank you) from Hawai'i.
I'm from Prince Edward Island, and I have been to pretty much every place you were to. It's a beautiful island, and I watched this video to remember most of it. I moved across the country recently, and believe me. Driving is NOT the best way to do so. Anyway, loved the video bro.

Wonderful, informative video! 💖 This has been on my wishlist to visit since I was a child, as I was brought up on the Anne series. However, I'm disabled and chronically ill now and can't travel, so I've been completely voyeuristic and enjoyed your travels instead! Thank you! 😊 I'd love to see an update if you ever go back and visit the places mentioned in the comments. I live in Australia but have always felt really drawn to PEI and Canada in general. I only made it to Niagara Falls once. I think there are certain paves in the world that speak to us, fit our values and ideals, suit our physical preferences and give us peace. I'd love to find that place and move there for the rest of my life. I wonder if this was it?!

it's just cool that you got to visit Canada! I'm a Floridian and I visit other states but almost only other southern states, the last five states i visited (and this is over the course of a few years) were Texas, Alabama, South Carolina, Tennessee and one northern state Illinois, and it was mostly just staying with family so I didn't get to see much of those states either, don't get me wrong I love the south and I think my region gets a bad rap. but I really want to branch out and travel more, what do you think would be a good starting trip to ease myself into it?

Living here it is interesting to see the shallowness of this tourist experience. Looks like it was a great time, and I'm sure it is similar to the experience of many Anne fans who visit our beautiful province, but there is so much more to see and do!
I've been infatuated with Canada sense I was old enough to read and comprehend I'd swear I was a Canadian in a past life all the videos I watch about different places up there and old Canadian TV shows and commercials I'm gonna get out of south east Tennessee one of these days I'm 32 now and still never been up there but I will make it one day and hope to meet some friendly faces when I get there

The nature is beautiful. PEI locals are friendly. The best season is spring and summer from April to Oct. The rest of year is cold, rainy, and snowing. Seafood, shrimps, lobsters, and mussles are tasty. Vegetables are ok. Other foods are prepcked and procesed. Very disappointing. Anne of Green Gables attractions are touristic and boring. Reading the book suffices.
The tourism village is actually borden..... but it's more gateway that's the tourist area

Great video! Thanks for all the information. I am considering a trip to PEI next summer (2019). It sounds very expensive. When were you there? Aside from the jellyfish, were you able to swim in the water? (Was it warm enough to swim?)

Hey I live here come around July water isn’t as warm as Jamaica 😂😔😔😉😉😉but it’s worm go to basin head !! Busy but suck a great day there, also go to cavendish beach great stress and not noisy time ❤️✌🏻✌🏻
If you want to travel the Wood Island ferry, use it to get ON to the island rather than OFF since it is more expensive than the bridge. Even with a motor home, getting on is free. If you have a knitter in your gang, get and follow the "fiber trail" map. If you are doing any reasonable amount of travel in Canada, get a Parks Canada Discovery Pass. On PEI it is good for the National parks and the Anne stuff. If NS is part of your plans you will easily be able to use the rest of your cost then you still have a year to exploit it.
love this
