My Trauma Kit - Completely reviewed

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is what I carry in my Trauma kit. Hopefully the demonstrations were helpful to better understand what this gear is used for. This is not a substitute for proper medical training. I HIGHLY recommend that you get proper training. Go to www.redcross.org/take-a-class to get certified in First Aid, CPR, and AED. They have amazing hybrid classes that allow you to do most of the studying online and just 1 hour hands on classes.

This is an awesome video. I highly appreciate the detail you go into of showing how to use the items. Also stressing the importance of proper training. I'm working as a paramedic and I only got one minor tip for improvement. You got two sets of gloves which is great when someone helps you. But from my daily experience I'd suggest putting at least one spare glove in there. It happened countless times to me that one glove ripped when putting them on. Like I said, apart from that it is a truly excellent pouch!

Cool, I don't know if I missed it, but I can recommend eyedrops in a kit. If you are sensitive to A/C (like me), sit in front of a screen or just come from a sandy/dusty space... your eyes would thank you. Also with 3-5 of this little onetime 0,5ml plastic tubes, you can get to see/get your nose working again if someone hit's you with pepperspray/cs-gas or a gas pistol loaded with tectical pepper.

I do carry the single use eye drops. If it wasn't in the video, then that means that I used them before the video and forgot to replace them. 😅 My buddy is always getting something in his eye. His blink reflex must be slow. Didn't think about using them after pepper spray, but that makes sense.

That is a way above average multipurpose kit. I am impressed with the quality and how much you got into that modest size bag. The double fold design works well. Thanks for showing it and for the demos. I have an old zippered Air National Guard day planner that I want to convert into a trauma kit. It's kinda large and has three binder rings, so I'm searching for 3-ring divider leafs that would fit it and that have pockets built in. The rings are at 2 3/4" centers instead of the standard 4 1/4". If I can't find any I might try making them if I can find suitable materials. I think it could work well if done right. The planner has 5 flat pockets so I mostly need to organize space for larger items.

Excellent kit! Your setup is much more compact than mine. I have an M-11 kit but replaced mil-spec with better options. Love the Israeli tourniquets and the blood pressure kit for dual use. IV fluids are important so it’s easier to inject medicine. Intubation kit with nose/mouth cover comes in handy, also 1way mouth guard. Kudos on the compact O2 sensor = mine is bulky and connects via DB9 to a portable Dr. basically a laptop with wide array of knowledge t

Hi there , combat medic here , you got a decent set up I would recommended setting up your kit , in the way you would use it for a primary survey etc for me I follow , CABCDE , cat hem, airway, breathing , circulation, disability , environmental ( for a trauma kit ) some good addition such as spo2 meter and Sam splint , however I would recommend more kit for the airway even something small like a NPA / OPA can make a hell of a difference, aswell as that more gloves !! But anyway great kit !! ✅✅

Not sure if you’ll see this given it’s an older video, but I really appreciate how thorough you were in showing and explaining. Quick question- how do the pills and things go after being left in the car? I’ve been concerned about that as throughout the year my car can get well below freezing (not as concerning) and external temps can get over 40C/104F which means the car interior will be even hotter.

About chest seals, yeah, that can work, but vented chest seals are far more effective, and they don't take up a lot of space. More than that, it's about time. It takes time to create a chest seal with four pieces of tape that doesn't suck, like Gorilla tape. If you have more than one penetrating injury, then you're taking a lot of time that the patient doesn't have. If you're worried about space, then get a single compact, non-vented seal that you can cut in half in an emergency. Chest seals is one of those things you have extra of. You can cut it and use it as backup tape if you don't need it for a seal, so it can be multi-purpose.

Tourniquets don’t need to be on the brachial or femoral artery. Plenty of studies have proven that tourniquets are more effective if placed on a double bone compartment mainly because they have a lower circumference which leads to a lower occlusion pressure. Also, try not to use the tourniquet you carry for training, tightening the windlass even a little bit can loosen it and make it less effective. Tourniquets can be left on for far longer than 2 hours, 2 hours is just the threshold for the possibility of irreversible damage to the appendage. There have been documented cases of active duty rangers having 4 tourniquets for 2+ hours and they still had perfect use of the limb. You also shouldn’t remove a tourniquet if it’s been applied for more then 2-3 hours. As a tourniquet occluded blood flow, cells can begin to die which leads to cellular breakdown. If the tourniquet is removed and potassium, as well as other contents, get released into the blood stream, the patient is likely to go into cardiac arrest. Being that you’re a big outdoorsman, i’d highly recommend buying an Xshear, they are phenomenal for cutting through multiple layers or thick clothes in general. I wouldn’t trust the shears you have, if the Xshear is too expensive, you can buy NAR shears. The ABD pad can be used for wound care but it’s main purpose in first aid is to give you material to apply pressure with. Gauze pads are more for cleaning and dressing wounds. So use the ABD for pressure and the sponges/pads for wound care. For wound care, you don’t want to use alcohol or iodine. Both are extremely painful and they significantly burn the underlying/exposed tissue, use benzalkonium chloride or BZK. You can get sprays or wipes. There is contradicting evidence on chest seals studies. Some show they work and some show they don’t. If you do decide to carry some, buy vented ones. I’d highly recommend you buy commercial chest seals because there is some data that suggest improvised occlusive dressings can increase the chances of pneumothoraces forming. Tegaderm isn’t really used for wound care, it’s main use is to keep IVs clean and secure. There was a few old cases of nasty infections forming from the use of tegaderm on wounds. Keeping a cut air sealed without proper wound care can lead to bad infections than can be drained, so you shouldn’t use them. Gloves aren’t really used for their sterility, chances are the gloves are full of bacteria if they’re just laying in your kit, which ain’t really a bad thing. The main purpose is to prevent the transportation of blood-borne pathogens from you and the patient. The glow stick is good but i’d recommend carrying another source of light. Get a nice small flashlight with a good pocket clip that you can put on your cap. It will keep your hands free and will be brighter. I also recommend getting a road flare in case of an accident, seeing glow sticks at night on a busy road can be hard. One thing that i’d add is something to irrigate wounds, you have gauze, antiseptics, neosporin, but nothing to irrigate wounds. Washing out wounds is by far the most important thing in wound care, no amount of neosporin will prevent an infection from forming if you have a contaminant inside a wound. You can buy saljets which are just little bottles full of saline used to irrigate wounds. Overall this is a very comprehensive “first aid kit”. I wouldn’t really call this a trauma kit. Something to keep in mind is how easy components are to find in the kit. If someone needs the pressure dressing, they’re gonna have to dig through everything to get too it. This is a big reason why people differentiate trauma kits from minor injury kits. Like I said, this is a solid kit but I’d recommend buying or making an IFAK that is dedicated to trauma. Solid kit man👍. Just a few things to work on.

I hope you didn’t use that gauze after you touched it with CPR face shield I don’t suggest using them. You can get a pocket mask for like 30 bucks on the St. John’s ambulance site I don’t really know what America has via first aid but I’m pretty sure red cross provides pocket masks. You can also get a BVM but that can be more pricey but when you get the proper training it’ll be very effective. Going onto another topic with the chest seal, I suggest using the clear bit of the plastic so you can see what is going on inside the chest cavity. It also prevents the EMTS (paramedics) from having to pull the chest seal off. But in some countries it really isn’t needed. Unless you were badly stabbed in the chest. I have a first aid kit which is a bigger version of a bag then yours, but my first aid kits works for me.

Love your kit, but you should have your tourniquet unwrapped and out ready to go always. You don't need to worry about it being clean, it isn't going to be on the wound, it will be above it. Someone can bleed out within 30secs, so having it unwrapped and prepped is so important. Lastly, that isn't a CAT either.

Thank you! Hmmm, OK, so it shouldn't be in the zip lock... The tourniquet is not a CAT? 🤔 I will need to do some more researching apparently...

@@FittoSurvive nope, keep it out and easy to get to. And no it isn't a CAT, but that doesn't mean it isn't good, see what tourniquet it is and if it is recommended by CoTCCC you are go to go.

4:58 Did he really say the "Femoral Artery" was in your biceps? I think someone needs Anatomy classes as a refresher red cross first aid class however you did point out you attended online. I finished watching your video do you have "OCD" are do you have "ADHD"?
