My Top Ten Recommended Books

This is definitely not an exhaustive list, nor are they in any particular order. These are the books that have made a big impact on me this year. Until recently I literally had dozens of boxes of books that I'd bought over the years. I used to frequently browse used book stores and would pick up whatever looked interesting. But I decided I needed to get rid of "stuff", just tons of stuff that I'd collected in my storage room over the years and ended up getting rid of about 95% of those books, many of which never got read. But I kept the ones I thought were important or that I knew I'd read or refer to again some day.

Passport to Heaven was a literal gift from God to our family. Last October we were "sealed" in the Mormon temple, and less than a year later we had denounced the false Mormon gospel and I was baptized as a Christian. If you have any Mormon friends or family, get them a copy of this book!!! Jesus really IS enough! ❤️❤️❤️

Such great recommendations, will add a few to my already huge stack of books to read! Some of my faves from this year were Another Gospel by Alisa Childers, Tactics by Greg Koukl, When Harry Became Sally by Ryan Anderson (addressing the transgender movement) and Fault Lines by Voddie Baucham (addressing the social justice movement). Still on my stack to read: Person of Interest by J. Warner Wallace, Confronting Injustice Without Compromising Truth by Thaddeus Williams, and We Will Not Be Silenced by Erwin Lutzer. And three you mentioned were already on my list as well: the Mama Bear Apologetics book, Irreversible Damage and Live Not By Lies. Can't wait to dig into all these in 2022!!! Happy reading!!!

We are reading through Person of Interest right now. Different than I expected, but very good! I'm curious- I started through When Harry Became Sally, but didn't finish it; I felt like it was primarily a case on why the transgender movement is unbiblical (which is not anything I needed particular help with, I'd figured that part out already. ;-) ), but not so much about dealing with those individuals who have fallen into that deception in a loving, Biblical way. Having read it, would you say that's a fair assessment- or does it become more than that by the end of the book?
I ❤️ your passion for knowing what you believe and why you believe it, it’s contagious!
I have 2 of the books listed here (from watching your interviews) and just purchased 4 more. Thank you so much Melissa. You rock!!!!

Excellent selection, Ms Melissa! Take care, be safe, & Merry Christmas!
This is a fascinating list of books. Thank you for sharing it. I read Tactics recently and it has reminded me that I really should be taking the time to read more books that will grow my faith.
I have quite a few books you listed and have read a few of them. Can't wait to read the others!
This is awesome! I’m brand new to your channel and was just thinking I wish I knew what books you would recommend. And then this video popped up!
Great list and I love your channel. I feel I always learn something or get some new insight on certain issues because I never had the experiences you've gone through. As for my own list, I actually have just gotten Tactics after reading Koukl's The Story of Reality - which I love, love, love. Some other faves: Unparalleled: How Christianity's Uniqueness Makes It Compelling (Jared C. Wilson) - which I like so much, I gifted copies to a couple of young family members; and Pagan Christianity?: Exploring the Roots of Our Church Practices (Frank Viola and George Barna). That last one is eye-opening to me as someone who has always wondered about the reasons behind the way we worship.
Love Micah Wilder! Looking forward to seeing how his perspective has changed over the years but also hearing more of the details around his testimony ❤️ One of the points from You're Not Enough (And That's Okay) that really stuck with me is the lie that we can't help others when we are in need. Just because we are going through hard times doesn't mean we can't uplift others -- in fact, helping others lifts us up as well through our struggles. Love Allie's no-nonsense way of communicating, hehe, great great stuff.
Thanks for the recommendations. I’m glad a a good amount of your list is on audio book, cause I’m a Truck driver, and lots of time to listen 🎧
Great list Melissa, thank you!
Glad you mentioned The Screwtape letters by C S Lewis - have read that more than once. Excellent book - in some ways rather entertaining but contains hidden truths. Glad you also recommended Greg Koukl. You recommended "Tactics" in an earlier video and I bought (and read) that on the strength of your recommendation. Very pleased! May God continue to bless you, Melissa!
Great books and authors … adding those I have not yet read to my list of books to buy. Thanks for sharing!

Great list, Melissa. I'm happy to say that I've read many of these. I've also read or listened to Tactics courses. An impactful book that I've read recently is "The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self", by Carl Trueman.
I appreciate your examples of books (other than the Bible, of course) that can help to answer some of my many questions, and bring some clarity to a sometimes extremely complicated topic. I may have to pick up some of these. Thank you and God bless!
I appreciate these recommendations and look forward to getting and reading/studying them; I've had some on my list, since you last recommended on other videos, and funny enough, yesterday I chose a few of the books you listed. That one of the Mama Bear kept coming up and I ignored it... ha! And here you are sharing it. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to have children, but I do have relatives' w/children, and this will help me to speak to them when they do ask questions, or their parents may feel unnerved and frazzled to answer. We had such an incident, and we all froze. LOL! I've seen videos and read books that are non-Christian, but as my pastor once told me: "Eat the meat and spit out the bones", that's what I do. Thank you for the warning. Shalom.

Wonderful! Lots of great recommendations. Thank you! Will you be doing more book recommendations ?
A book that I read in high school and is one of my favorites is All Quiet on the Western Front by Eric Maria Remarque. It's historical fiction about the First World War, written by a WWI veteran. I think it's important because it's only been a century since that time and many forget.
I have never commented on a youtube video before, but I just started reading Live not by lies, (because of your recommendation)and wow!! Thank you..for your channel and your voice and your witness of Jesus Christ.
Loved this! I’ve read about half of these and totally agree with your opinions of them. Have you read any Frances Schaeffer books? I’ve been binging on them here lately.
I’m glad you made this video because I’m having to redeem some credits on audible and I seriously need it some recommendations I already have the title live not by lies physically but I have not had time to read it due to my newfound motherhood. The Giver was my fave book as a kid. Irreversible Damage is a very good book and I recommend everyone to read or listen to it!

Another Gospel? by Alisa Childers was one that really impacted me. When I first became a believer in the 90s as a teen she came into to music scene, with Zoe Girl, shortly after and listened to them. It had been a long time since I'd heard anything about her or the band and came across a video recommendation from her where she talked about her book and I had just seen it on a library app so I borrowed the audiobook and listened to it multiple times and would listen to it everywhere. It helped me to realize some things that I went through and I went into scripture and read different areas that she talked about and just seen things that really helped me see that I was right that the teachings that were in my former church were wrong and how the church had changed from what it was when I first started attending. It became a progressive church and so glad that I'm not there and the combination of her book and reading the bible really helped to secure and deepen my faith this year. I became disabled and chronically ill almost 4yrs ago and it's been a rough road and through that I had someone who came in and rocked my faith with the progressive Christian ideology and word of faith movement and was very abusive with it. It wasn't until this year that I was able to really see things clearer and God really has given me a peace that no matter what the trials I face He is with me and will use this all for my benefit, His glory and His Kingdom, which the last 2 are the most important. Along with finding her channel I found yours and a few others that have really made a difference in my life and I'm so thankful to God for that because through your channels I've found tools use to read and understand scripture better.

Zenith 2016, and also Zeitgeist 2025 by Tom Horn. Another book I enjoyed, despite disagreements on some of his thoughts about the Rapture is Doug Hamp’s book, Corrupting the Image 2. Haven’t read 1 yet. I’m currently reading Ancient Mysteries of the Essenes by Jen Johnson. Next n deck is Derek Gilbert’s new book called the Second Coming of Saturn. The King James Only book was awesome. I particularly liked the information I got about the Koran and its revisions. On a side note, I am trying to guess off of your brief mentions of seminary where you go. Is it SES? Also, speaking of kids, have you been through Cold Case for Kids? I am thinking about doing that with my daughter. Some of the best books I have read this year are Apologetics at the Cross by Chatraw and Allen, Cultural Apologetics by Gould, and Philosophical Foundations for a Christian Worldview by Moreland and Craig (I try to read it once per year). Best book I am reading right now is A Simple Guide to Experience Miracles by Dr. Moreland.

I'm currently reading Live Not by Lies as it's the book that a church book club will be discussing next month. I don't know how likely I am to finish reading it by the time the book club will be talking about it, but it's definitely a great read. And in April, the book club will be discussing Foxe's Book of Martyrs
Great list! One vote for Dr. James White. I have learned quite a bit from his ministry.
Seven Habits of Highly Effective People is another great one. It really helped me as a parent to understand empathy. Stephen Covey had introduced a lot of concepts that are talked about quite a bit these days. Concepts like putting first things first, Circle of influence, and understanding what win-win really means deeply ministered to me.
I would love to hear about your seminary experience. As an older person considering seminary I would love to know more.
This was interesting. Some of the books you mentioned, I shared your enthusiasm for them and thought they were great. Others, I thought were pretty bad.
Just finished Passport to Heaven as per your recommendation- excellent read! Even though it’s not a “Christmas” book, it has greatly blessed my Advent preparations. The man made religions and self righteous demands people create for themselves leaves them burdened and suffocating under the weight of what is required for salvation. The hope of God’s love and His true and lasting forgiveness is preached and wrestled with and made clear countless times in this book. This is the hope and the joy we have in preparing to celebrate the incarnation of our Savior. This hope come to earth, that we joyfully exclaim in all our Christmas Hymns, is a hope people are desperate for. This book renewed not only my advent devotions but my evangelism zeal as well. Thank you for the recommendation!
Brave New World was actually a college movie my philosophy professor assigned us to watch. It is really good and just by the way they spoke, I can only imagine how the book is portrayed! I may need to give it a try along with a dictionary near by 😆!
Brave New World is the only book I’ve read… so far… and it was really good. Adding some of these others to my tbr!
Hey just general question. Love your multi person videos, where you play several characters. Do you have someone read the lines to you and then react to it, or do you just dress as a character and read the lines like a script? Also what software are you using? Thanks, Eric Kelly
