It's Death - Spiritual Healing and Obituary - Cause of Death that I can always keep going back to. Obituary are a band I will always go and see when they play Scotland. They never disappoint.

It tends to get overlooked, but I totally agree that Spiritual Healing is one of Death’s very best albums. Chuck’s vocals were never better than on Leprosy and that record.

Sick list but surprised you picked Nightmares. Definitely a sick album but definitely my least favourite Bloodbath album too. With Left Hand Path in your list I'm surprised you didn't pick Resurrection Through Carnage. My favourite is Grand Morbid Funeral (even though my favourite band is Opeth and Mikael is my goat).

Great video Professor. Love these kinds of videos. That list is amazing. All pioneers of Death Metal. So much fantastic music came out of Florida in the 90's. I remember buying Cannibal's Eaten Back To Life cassette in 1990. Another fave is Obituary's The End Complete. Thanks for inspiring me to bust out some CDs and go back in time for a bit. Rob, every single album on your list is identical to mine man. Morbid angel domination is got to be one of my all time favorite albums EVER bro. Number one to be exact. Cannibal corpse the bleeding, deicide once upon a cross, malevolent creation retribution, six feet under haunted, resurrection embalmed existence, atrocity hallucinations, pestilence testimony of the ancients, death human, but i have GOT to put impossibility of reason and the infection on my list bro.. implements of destruction, salvation and the venom inside are hands down some of the best songs ever written imo. Rob, “Undead” is one of my favorite Death Metal albums ever. You outdid yourself with that one. So brutal and tasty! Nile is one of my favorite Death Metal bands. I remember when I first found them, so unique and underrated in my opinion. “Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka” is just sick.

Cleveland metal fan here. Glad to find your channel. I was on WRUW 91.1 back in the early 90s when all those great death metal albums came out. Caught some great shows too. Cannibal Corpse, Atheist and Gorguts at the Agora Ball room. Sepultura in the Agora theater, also Grave and Acid Bath. What a great era.. I never caught Chimaira as I wasn’t going to many shows going into the 2000s.

@RobArnoldWorld I showed my son your reply, and he tripped out, and said, "Power Trip" is one of the greatest songs of all time, and asked if you guys can ever make it back to Houston, TX. I told him about the first time that I got to see you guys with Machine Head on the Road Rage tour with Trivium opening, back in August of 2004. One of the best shows I have ever seen. My introduction to Opeth was the Blackwater Park and then Deliverance/Damnation albums, which are also some of my all time favorites. I went back and heard My Arms, Your Hearse some time later and a cool little feature of MAYH is in the way the songs segue into one another and the final word of each song is the title of the following song. A simplistic idea, but pretty fucking rad.

A friend loaned me Alters of Madness and I listened to it on my walkman walking home by myself on a freezing cold February night. It was terrifying. So, it is definitely my number 1.

Love the context given to this list. Lot of folks review music in a 40 year vacuum. It’s not possible. You have to get the context behind it, how different and influential the music was at the time. Great list, can’t go wrong - my all time #1 is Suffocation - Pierced from Within - when that dropped in ‘95 it was some of the most complex and brutal stuff I’d ever heard.

Absolutey. All the metal world puts Altars and Covenant on the front but Domination is the one album I really prefer from Morbid. The compositions, the production are perfection.

My fav Deicide album is Legion tbh, i like Once Upon the Cross too but i think legion just hits that bit harder I missed the boat on Obituary tbh, i like that album with Dying on it (cant remember the name whoops) and even went to see them last year, the latest albums kicks ass Morbid Angel again, haven't listened to much of their stuff, love the track EYES TO SEE EARS TO HEAR though The Bleeding would probably make my list for sure And man i have never heard much good spoken of Six Feet Under so maybe ill give that album a listen Ones that would make my list are None So Vile by Cryptopsy (saw them a fortnight ago and christ alive was it madness) Nesphite by Demilich is insane Leprosy by Death, definition of a classic, saw Left to Die perform it a year ago and it was amazing, had some OG members. Suffocation's Effigy of the Forgotten would probably make my list too For a newer age band i would definitely say The Nine Choirs by Tribal Gaze, wowwzzza wowzza the inetnsity So yeah theres my list, enjoyed your vid ❤

You should have lasted more with SFU because your contribution to their discography is simply stunning. Congratulations for this.

I see some CD Game Exchange price tags on a few of those, were those a national thing? We had several here in Oregon, like 4 or 5 up in Portland and one down in Eugene. A significant chunk of my collection has those same stickers on them.

I'm actually not sure man! I noticed those two when I broke out the CD's, and I couldn't remember why they had those stickers. Like, I feel like I would have definitely bought these albums new initially. Perhaps I had to re-buy them at some point? I can't recall!

Top shelf pics Rob. I've congratulated you last year on your killer work with SFU. Undead is one of their all time best, any chance you could do an 18 days playthrough and explain the gear you used to get the tone on that record?!

Thanks man! I'll consider an 18 Days play through! Tone on that record was comprised of my ESP GL-56 with Pearly Gates, and then the DI's were re-amped during mixing by Jason Suecof through an AmpFarm plugin. Unfortunately that's all I know!

I think at the time we were happy for m.a. being the first d.m. band to be on major label

Great selections, I'm not sure I could pick my ultimate faves but I'd like to throw Malevolent Creation - Retribution, Pestilence - Consuming Impulse & Cannibal Corpse - Vile in there. The Haunted came out before he left Cannibal btw.

Death Metal is so tricky because so VAST in sub "styles"... but my top 5 would be and because Chuck was too genius to have only one spot so there are 6 : Death - Symbolic Death - Human Carcass - Heartwork Gojira - Terra Incognita Dying Fetus - Reign Supreme Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal EDIT on the day after! Vader - Black to the Blind is actually number 3 ! I forgot one of my very favs!

Undead is a masterpiece. Still come back to it often! Great list Rob, cheers 🍻

My Most favourite Album ever is Bolt Thrower -Warmaster.

Death - Human Carcass - Necroticism Descanting the Insalubrious Entombed - Clandestine Morbid Angel - Covenant Napalm Death - Utopia Banished These are the death metal albums that had the most impact on my life back then. My favorite concert: Napalm Death with Carcass in San Diego. ND had just released Utopia Banished and Carcass Necroticism. Amazing show, the vibe was incredible, people went nuts. I don't know why, but San Diego had concerts landing in Friday or Saturday, which allowed me to go. I'm so glad I lived my teens in that era.

They can, but kids these days think that their simulated sounds are what is great. I'd rather have an actual amplifier and create my own sound, but they all wanna sound like the same garbage deathcore band nowadays

The Bleeding truly is a magnificent death metal record. So catchy yet with pristine production. Everyone praises Tomb of the Mutilated (for good reason) but I agree, The Bleeding really blew me away. Butchered was my first exposure to C Corpse but The Bleeding made me a lifelong fan! Cool idea for a vid, Rob!
