I'm a comedy fan so my favorites for the year were: Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Clue, and The Naked Gun. My #1 of the year is The Warriors theatrical edition.

I dont really get the people saying Titanic is reference quality as it has clearly had image manipulation going on with some really distracting digital sharpening that is really noticeable once you know it is there and a possibility of it being de-grained, sharpened up and then a fake layer of grain added back really concerning and wouldnt be surprising considering what we know about the other Cameron releases. Unfortunately I dont think that 2024 will be a different story for Cameron 4k releases because we already know that AI tools have been used to DNR the image and add fake detail and sharpen up those images and look horrendous, with True Lies being the most obvious one, but all three have fallen victim and the Aliens one is also quite noticeable. What a shame. I hope people realise so we dont support these kinds of "restorations" and "remasters" and releases. Would a 4k scan of the original film and a normal restoration really be so difficult? idk ask James Cameron.

Thanks for watching and weighing in. I don't agree with your characterization of these Cameron restorations at all. But I'm gonna save most of my thoughts for a future mini-review video I'll be doing sometime in March, once I get my hands on the other 3 physical releases. I'll just say I think the negativity toward these restorations in some circles has been a little hyperbolic and over-the-top, and I think people need to chill out. There's a reason highly credible, respected people like Bill Hunt at The Digital Bits are giving these restorations such high marks. Personally, I have full confidence in Cameron, but I don't want to say too much until I've had the chance to actually see the March physical releases for myself.

Happy New Year! Let's not forget the true best debut of 2023 and that is your channel, Fuzz! In a landscape with so many cynical, negative channels, and a country that is at best conflicted right now, your videos made for wonderful, fun escapism and i hope that 2024 causes people to flock to your content.

Oh thank you so much! You're very kind. Yeah, escapism is a big part of why I got back into collecting with the passion I have and why I'm even on KZread. It's easy to get down in the dumps with the way everything is (the conflict and discord, etc). I wanted a healthier way to refocus my energy and channel it into hopefully something positive, entertaining, nostalgic, and even helpful to others in a similar boat. Glad to hear you enjoyed ExitenZ from Cronenberg. As I make my way through his filmography this one really surprised me. I had the 101 films bluray so I was thrilled when VS announced this 4K. That packaging is ONE OF A KIND with that texture. I still need to watch the 4k and might do a side by side comparison of the old bluray. Still making my way through your list, but as always loving it! I may need to seek out that Bloodsport release. Was always a fan growing up and don’t own any copy of it so no time like the present. BTW, as a side note, I'm hoping you and I can maybe do some collabs this year. I'm still getting a couple things set up on my end, but I am planning on doing some live streams, etc. in the near future. Would love to have you participate, as schedules permit.

Well it will probably be a Top 25 to start... with potentially more installments after that (i.e. 26-50, 51-75, etc.). But the Top 25 video won't happen until sometime in March. I'm waiting for The Abyss and Aliens to be released on 4K. 😉

Thanks Brian! Yeah this Opera set is pretty sweet, and it looks so good. Colors and detail really pop. I had heard a rumor Severin was working on it (though I can't remember from where), so who knows what kind of edition they would be giving us, if true (hopefully they've learned something from their Four Flies 4K debacle lol. Did you ever get that one? Can't remember). I thought they might reveal Opera on Black Fri, but it never happened. Thanks for watching man!

@@JustTheDiscs Well the packaging really didn't match the price. It was just a standard Vinegar Syndrome-style slipcover instead of a hard box -- for like $55 not including shipping. And a lot of people thought Severin was being kind of deceptive in the promotional photos... where it wasn't really clear whether or not we were getting a slipcover or a hard slipcase (they even referred to it as "slipcase" in the listing at one point). And then to top it off, they told us we could only buy them for 4 days during Black Friday weekend, and then it wouldn't be available anymore. Well, apparently, they didn't sell as many as they thought they would at the crazy prices they were charging, and I've heard that if you email them privately asking if they have a copy to sell you, they actually will sell you a copy (even though they can't/won't put it back up on the website). Sorry, long explanation. Plus, the guys at Severin were really condescending to people who complained about the issues, derogatorily referring to them as "cardboard enthusiasts." I think debacle is probably a fitting characterization LOL.

Your video reminded me of the Arrow Waterworld 4K that I bought in the Autumn. I’d seen the film many times but wow this release looks and sounds utterly incredible. The Atmos track certainly wasn’t something I was expecting from a film of this age. This 3 disc set really is a thing of beauty and I’m so happy for it to be my first 4K viewing of 2024. If 2024 is going to be as amazing as 2023 was, we’re all in for one hell of a treat. Are you going to be doing a 4K releases video that you’re looking forward to?

Yeah maybe so. That's not a bad idea... I might do a "most anticipated" 4K releases of 2024 list. I'll have to do a little research on it, and see what info we have coming up for the year (how far out the release calendar extends... usually we only know about most physical media releases a few months ahead of time, with some exceptions). Right now, it's hard for me to personally see anything beyond the March James Cameron releases... I've definitely got Cameron brain right now LMAO! I am beyond excited for the Abyss, True Lies and Aliens. But I'm sure we're going to have all kinds of other great stuff coming out this year too. i'll definitely give that one some thought.

The 4K of Bloodsport is available in the U.K. in 3 different versions. 2 versions of the digibook design or a steelbook which some people might prefer over the German release. Great list, thanks for sharing your thoughts. it’s been a fantastic year for 4K releases, hasn’t it? Happy New Year to you.

Yeah they had both artwork variants of the digibook at OrbitDVD. I had a hard time choosing between them LOL! But I'm glad i got the one I did... it's fantastic. Happy New Year!

I was really excited when the Mist came out on 4k. I got the steelbook version which I guess a lot of people did not like the steelbook anyway the disc are darn near impossible to get out on other steelbooks I have the closing mechanism/clasp wear out or don’t close anymore which might make it my last steelbook for those reason, however, great movie and great video I enjoy your channel a lot .

Brilliant choice of the final movie absolutely loved the original Warriors. I’m here in the UK. I will wait until it’s obviously released.

I noticed you had the omen on the shelf behind you watching that at the moment, but definitely going to add that to my Uk 4k collection. Also imagine watching Jacobs ladder in 4 k looking forward to that.

The reason why Bloodsport is in English with the book is because it’s the UK release from Capelight. Earlier in the year, they released it in Germany (which I initially bought) and all the text in the booklet was in German and the disc was the same except the menus were also in German.

Blood sport edition is gorgeous

My favorite releases were Princess Bride and Battlestar Galactica. I worry about importing, and I can't believe it took forever for a 4K Princess Bride in the US. The original Battlestar Galactica movie was always a favorite of mine. Disney rant was on point. I can't believe all the money Disney is leaving on the table by not releasing 4K versions of older movies. What movies they are releasing need to be good quality as opposed to their usual poor versions (looking at you Pirates). Hope the James Cameron's 4K releases are good next year. As long as we waited for True Lies, it better not turn out like T2. Happy New Year!🎉

Thanks so much for the input and perspective. Re: T2, that really was a unique situation that is distinct from what we're getting with the new Cameron releases. T2 was a studio screw up -- they used the wrong master (which had all the grain scrubbed for the 3D conversion). Basically, it wasn't something Cameron approved or was even happy about, apparently. But in the case of the new 4K releases (both this year and next), apparently everything we're getting was Cameron-approved and the films look the way he wants them to look. I have a feeling not everyone is gonna dig it, but the way I see it, Cameron's an innovator, and he loves to experiment with new technology. And I'm open to seeing what he comes up with, especially if he's happy with the end result. Apparently, the technology they're using allows them to somehow reduce the visible grain, without necessarily sacrificing detail (or at least, the detail is then "algorithmically enhanced"). So we'll just have to see what that ends up looking like. From what I've heard, it sounds like True Lies could be the one people have the biggest issue with. But from my perspective, I figure it's got to be at least a significant improvement over the old DVDs (in the case of both True Lies and The Abyss), so I'm not as concerned about the tinkering as others are. But I have heard both The Abyss and Aliens look pretty amazing... 4K being the best they've ever looked on home media. BTW, if you want some good places to get imports from in the U.S., try diabolikdvd.com and/or orbitdvd.com. Both sites are very solid indie businesses run by people who are themselves collectors. They are very collector-oriented, and as such, they always carry a lot of cool imports (like the ones I shared in this video). Both businesses are based in the U.S., so you don't have to worry about overseas shipping. And they package their items very well when they ship them to you. I've had great experiences with both sites. Happy New Year!

Why do you worry about importing? I’m in the UK and around 70 of my discs have been imported from the US (I’m region free for Blu rays).

@benpascall4297 I worry about importing due to region locking. In the past, I was supposed to get a disc that was playable in the US, and it was not. Being poor, I was not willing to believe advertisers anymore and just wait. It sounds like things have gotten better, so I should give it another shot.

Great list. I would also add the Shout release of JFK to the list.

I'm assuming you're talking about a Dolby Atmos setup (or DTS-X), since the overhead channels are one of the big features with Atmos. For the height channels, you would need a special receiver that is Dolby Atmos compatible and has additional outputs for the height channels. For example, I only have a 5.1 surround system, so I don't have any height channel outputs in the back of my receiver. To get the full Atmos experience, I would need an upgraded receiver that has the extra outputs needed for the overhead speakers (plus Atmos-compatible speakers).

It doesn't bother me too much... but I totally get how it might not be very appealing to some. I'm not a big fan of that Warner 100 logo either.

Is it even a video if there is no mention of #chunkyboxsets lol! 😂 in all seriousness though it’s been a great year for 4K and I agree the warriors is the best set of the year! Both in terms of quality packaging and overall look and sound! I watched it the other night and was really impressed!

You dis Disney,but they have brought out Loki,the Mandalorian season 1&2,Snow White and Avatar which I hear are fantastic. Fingers crossed for more of that.

Well technically, James Cameron gave us Avatar. But I understand and respect your point. The way I see it is, Disney may have managed to pull a couple out of their hat with Loki and Mando 1&2... but the current situation at Disney -- with all the activism, poor management and just the path they're on generally-speaking -- is horrendous and dismal at best. They've lost the public trust... at least in many circles. They had a terrible 2023 (outside of Avatar 2 and Guardians 3). Ms Marvel flopped. The Marvels flopped hard (worst-performing live-action superhero movie ever). Wish flopped hard... during a time when they should've been able to own the box office. Little Mermaid flopped. I believe Obi Wan underperformed. Ahsoka flopped. And even the most recent seasons of Loki and Mando are flopping... or at least, not performing as well as one would expect given the success of earlier seasons. Not to mention hiring a political activist to direct the next Star Wars/ Rey movie rather than someone who actually knows something about Star Wars and genre films. That's extremely off-putting to a lot of people... and it's especailly insulting to Star Wars fans. People are not digging what they're seeing from Disney these days, and I suspect it's only going to get worse. People don't care anymore... Disney has alienated far too many people on multiple fronts. Thanks for watching and weighing in though... I sincerely appreciate it.

Yeah that's exactly it (or at least, part of it). I don't even want to mess with any potential copyright issues or go down that road. Even the channel theme music is my own music. But I totally get what you're saying... it would spice things up a bit more. But at the same time, it's also just not really the kind of thing I do on this channel, which is focused on physical media. So most of the time, the physical media releases I'm holding up are intended to be the focus -- the sole visual aids. I prefer to keep things pretty basic and straightforward. I don't even usually say very much about the storyline or events of the movies beyond just a very brief synopsis (mainly for the benefit of anyone watching who may not have seen the films I'm discussing). There are other reasons too, but those are the big ones.

Great list! I just found Point Break on dvd right before they announced the 4k so I passed on that one for now. Face Off was just a really fun one Kino is great the packaging is a bit boring but that keeps the cost down.

Yeah Kino's not the best on packaging, but at least their transfers are really solid, and they are consistent. Plus, Kino's often got some of best titles. I always say that for the title selection, you can't beat Kino and Scream Factory. That's where they really shine... in the types of high-profile movies they have in their catalogs. But for packaging, Vinegar Syndrome, Second Sight and Arrow are the best for me. Dude, you should definitely pick up the Point Break 4k at some point -- it's a major improvement over previous home media releases. Thanks for watching brother!

LOL! Well let's take 'em one at a time: (1) TCM -- I bought the U.S. Dark Sky 4K release. Didn't need the Second Sight release. I'm only lukewarm on the film (I like TCM 2 a lot more), so the U.S. release for TCM1 was more than sufficient for my needs. It had all the bonus features I wanted. (2) Bruce Lee -- I bought the Criterion blu ray set this year instead... at a fraction of the price over the Arrow 4Ks. I'm sure the Arrow set is killer, but I'm good to go with blu rays for Bruce lol. And then (3) Hellraiser -- incredible box set and packaging, but I'm just not into the Hellraiser movies. Not my kind of horror. I may still pick up It Follows 4K from Second Sight at some point, but I'm kind of on the fence over whether or not to upgrade my blu ray on that one. I hear it's a pretty amazing release though. And I definitely have got my eye on the Hitcher 4K this year... can't wait for that one!

Really thought Bloodsport was an American title.

Naw, I'm not personally a big fan of that one nor the Coen Bros. in general. I respect their work for sure. But most of the films I've seen from them haven't really resonated with me.

Face/Off 4K is a Kino Lorber title. It's a U.S. release. You're paying extra because it's an import for you and the availability/distribution is different than in the U.S... But Arrow -- who put out Witness -- is UK-based, so perhaps that has something to do with it (for that matter, I think Arrow in general is usually a bit more reasonably priced -- especially if I order their LE boxes on pre-order). But there are all kinds of variables that factor into price differences among different companies. It's not all apples to apples comparison. Even here in the U.S., we have a couple companies that are a little outrageous. I would agree Scream Factory is overpriced for what they offer. And Severin Films is the worst for new releases. Way worse than Scream Factory even... Severin's prices are nuts (a 4K title would probably be like £60-£70 for you!).

Not a fan AT ALL of sitatuations where studios/labels do not give you special features on the discs but do on the digital code. Worst trend ever. Make it stop. Please. Comment in reference to you comments on the new The Exorsist release shown in the video.

Fantastic reviews buddy. Arrow has its own streaming service called Arrow Player. it's pretty much like Shudder on Acid but as far as I know, they have every single one of their remasters on there as well but only at 1080p Blu-ray quality. It's $6.99 a month or $70 a year it's fantastic.
