Great video. I left Germany 10 years ago and I don't know most of these shows so it was nice to see what's on Tv now. I totally agree with you on the Sendung mit der Maus. I work as a Nanny and we don't really have one really traditional good to kids show here in the U.K. I also grew up watching Sesamstrasse a lot. Big hello from the uk. X

Happy New Year! Hurray, I knew the answer to the quiz-qestion. In Germany TV became famous (about 2000 viewers or so) in 1936 with broadcasting from the Olympic games, and it was established shortly before. I'm always puzzled by the term "TV-Show", because in Germany we use this term just for evening shows with stars, music, sketches or so. What you call "show" would be "Sendung" in German. I am looking forward to seeing you as often as last year in 2017.

If anyone can help me with this It would be helpful. I'm trying to find a German TV show and the main characters were 4 teenagers. 2 guys one with redish hair and gapped teeth and the other with brown hair bowl cut kinda with a mole on his face. And the others were 2 sisters one was the popular one and the other was kinda nerdy and quiet. This show is pretty old and I can't find it anywhere my german teacher used to play this show for us and I can't find it please help!

I can tell you why in the show Karambolage the differences between Germany and France are showed. Because ARTE is a german-french TV channel :)

Agreed, a show like Karambolage would be great... "Kollision" If the BBC and ARD can't be convinced to do it, maybe you could do an episode. :)

Karambolage is great, but quite hard questions - but very interesting :-D

Elefant, Tiger and Co is the original Zoo-Doku. It started 2003 on MDR.

Fun fact: The first "animal,animal & Co."- show was "Elefant, Tiger und Co." which shows the zoo here in Leipzig.

Logo! / A childish form to say "logisch!", which is a common german phrase to say somethings making sense Ruckzuck is kinda based on the Game "Tabu" or in english "Taboo" Karambolage is a word for a car crash or a crash in any sort Schlag den Raab, translated to "Beat the Raab" referring to the show's host Stefan Raab, a german TV legend. Schlag den Star, translated to "Beat the Star" a sequel of the old show with changing hosts instead of Raab Die Sendung mit der Maus, translated to "The Show with the Mouse", a great show, and also speaking of myself, a great memory in the heart of maaany germans

Ja, I agree with too many adverts. If you watch the catch-up show on the Mediathek, there will be an advert at the beginning and then no more. Hoorah! Although I don't know how every Mediathek presents their advertisements. It probably differs.

You should definitely watch Wissen macht Ah! if you like Die Maus then you will like that too :)

I watched Jeopardy, Ruck Zuck and Familien Duell in the 90's. Familien Duell was my favorite afternoon show. Unfortunately Genial Daneben is no longer on tv. It was a blast.

Happy New Year Martha. What Do you think about "Gefragt - Gejagt"? I saw "The Chase" on British TV before I saw the German Version and I think the British is better. It is the same show but I think the chasers and the host are better on British TV. Another good show is "dings vom dach". People can send things, widgets that are older than 30 years and you usually store in the attic or cellar. Celebrities has to guess what is the thing for. It can be funyn or informative, depending on the things the viewers send. For every widget are 100 EUR given to charity or the viewer who sent it, depending if the team can guess it or not. The show is from hr, but other 3rd channels sending it too.

That's a good question Peter! There are not many German YT channels I watch. I like a few American KZreadrs and I am subscribed to BBC, ASAP Science and The Graham Norton Show. :D Mostly I am just browsing KZread to find some new videos to watch.

I probably couldn't even name 10 shows, I stopped using TV years ago. At the moment I'm only watching British stuff on the internet (Agatha Christie's Poirot and QI). But I'm pleased to hear Karambolage is still on Arte.

I grew up with the Sendung mit der Maus its super. But with all these shows you've got a lot to watch the week. How much time do you spend watching television?

Hi craftyapplepie. Die Sendung mit der Maus is also my favourite TV Show.I grow up with the films in it ,that shows so much things ,how things ar build , work or grow . Funny thing about the Show ist that the average Age of the Viewers is over 35 so not only Kids watch the show ,adults love the Show too.

I didn't know someone likes the same shows. I agree for the first place "Sendung mit der Maus" and "Karambolage" is good too and yes i'm a adult but "logo" , a show for Kids, can do it what no one can in german TV.

Du hast einen sehr infantilen Geschmack (bitte nicht als Beleidigung verstehen), aber das ist verständlich, ich kenne das Gefühl. Arte ist wirklich einer der besten TV Kanäle. Was kann man kritisches über Quiz-Shows sagen, über das Abfragen von totem Fakten Wissen, meistens ohne jede wirkliche Relevanz? Happy New Year

Hannah Brunotte Ja, Du hast Recht, so habe ich das auch verstanden. Hauptsache sie fühlt sich wohl damit. Wenn man sich aber sehr intensiv mit infantilen Inhalten aufhält, dann kann das zu infantilen Denken führen. Kann man nicht gerade selten bei Grundschul Lehrern beobachten ;-)

And Sportschau ? I'm surprised you didn't mention this show... ;)

DerKartoffelTyp Ich glaube das wird sie nicht machen, weil das einfach meistens nicht mit den Meinungen, der Zuschauer übereinstimmt. Und sie hat dann auch keine Lust darauf, wegen ihrer Serien Auswahl runter gemacht zu werden.

Really nice but actually in "Schlag den Star" a celebrity has to compete against a normal person. -Not two celebrities like you said. :) I recommend looking up "Genial daneben" on KZread, another fantastic game show about guessing German terms that no one knows about that sadly got etired. Might be a bit hard to understand but it's great anyways. There are a few best of videos on KZread as well. Have fun. ^^

A very ambitious interpretation of the start from the German TV broadcast. In fact those had been a choosen small group in the beginning. The REAL start of public broadcast had begun after World War II in the Sixtieth. My grandparents had belonged to the earliest ones. Our TV set hat been not much bigger as a commen computer screen from the ´90th. In my childhood I had watched then GET SMART; MEET THE FLINTSTONES and The West German Sandmännchen. :) It sows that Wikipedia isn´t always correct.

Martha, please don't misunderstand this question as an offense, but if you've always wanted to be a vet, why aren't you? I mean, why haven't you chousen that "carreer path" (if that is how it's called)? I have thought about this as well (back when I was in my 20s), and while I would have met the requirements to study at a university, I didn't want to do that - but there is also still the job of "vet assistant", at least that's what it's called in Germany: Tierarzthelfer/-in, and that is an actual "Ausbildungsberuf", so no need to study at a uni for years on end... So I would like to know why you chose not to do something like that, but instead do the work you do now?

Ich hab das Video nicht ganz gesehen aber ich glaube sie hat nicht Tatort genannt Das geht doch nicht

as a german i can say without any doubt! there is no good german tv series, and shows the oinly thing i can see is cabarett like "die anstalt" or stuff like that german television is horrible bad jaeh sendung mit der maus and logo and children stuff can be nice, and quiz shows are intresting in nearly every country But if u strip away quiz and kid and comedy shows, then the main german tv shows are HORRIBLE ! adult series are so bad produced and tv stations like RTL are like cancer to be fair i watch more BBC shows then german tv together and i dont even GET bbc xD
