Les Mis is one I've been dying to pick up, it's just a bit intimidating lol. I don't know that I'm ready to commit to all of that just yet. I love Romeo and Juliet as well! It's one of my favorites of his plays. There's so much to that play below the surface that most people seem to notice. I've only ever read Fellowship, but I'm planning to get through all of LotR later this year. My favorite classic is definitely The Secret Garden. I grew up on that and I've read more adult classics by now, but nothing so beautiful as that.

Great list with some fantastic books! Frankenstein was a recent discovery for me, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. North and South, on the other hand, I couldn't get on with at all. I've not yet read A Tale of Two Cities, but I want to discover more Dickens this year (probably in Victober). I don't really get The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, but I think that's because I first read it as an adult, so the nostalgia factor is completely missing. Agree with you on Jane Eyre, it's such a wonderful book.

Spinster's Library I agree much of my love for Narnia originated in childhood! Frankenstein and Jane Eyre, will always be on this list, I think. Thanks for watching :)

North and South is definitely a favorite for me as well. Elizabeth Gaskell is just so readable and I love her social commentary. I have only read Great Expectations by Dickens and I loved it. I need to read more by him! Loved hearing all your favorites 😊

The only ones I haven’t read on this list yet are LOTR, 1984, and North & South (also maybe R & J, I can’t remember if we read it in school or just watched the movies). I really want to get to them this year. I WILL get to at least LOTR, I’m reading The Hobbit in March! I absolutely love all the other ones you mentioned! And I actually don’t really have a problem with Rochester, like, at all. I think he’s kind of reflective of the typical Victorian man. He put up the facade that everyone had back then, but Jane knew his soul, and Rochester had never really experienced that kind of love before, so he didn’t want to lose her. Which did lead to manipulation, but he got his just desserts for his actions and he grew from that.

Summer Dawn I agree on the character of Mr. Rochester :) I love everything about the characters in Jane Eyre. I’m so excited for you to read LOTR!!! Someday I will give them a much deserved reread.

North and South has been on my TBR ever since seeing the mini series with Richard Armitage a few years ago. Anne of Green Gables is one of the few books I’ve read several times. I’m planning to read Jane Eyre this October during Victober.

Great video with an awesome list, i'll have to check out the books I haven't read yet! I'm currently reading 1984, and it has been quite the wild ride; i'm kind of scared to finish it now! o.O

Andrew Will I’m glad you’re reading it! The ending is just... grim. It’s the only Orwell I’ve read... need to read Animal Farm.

I did a similar video a few weeks ago! kzread.info/dash/bejne/lZyBlqmcY5XAn8o.html North and South, Narnia, LotR, Jane Eyre, and Tale of Two Cities are some of my favorites too!! You should really read the rest of the Anne of Green Gables series. Every book is so good!

Great, well-thought-out video! I read Les Mis for the same reasons, but I DNF’d it; Hugo’s writing style just didn’t gel with me. Gone with the Wind, Of Mice and Men, Pride and Prejudice, and The Great Gatsby are some of my favorite classics!

This is a pretty good list of classics with a couple of my favorites on it. Would you recommend Jane Eyre to a 30 year old male that among other things, enjoys reading classics such as great expectations, moby dick, crime and punishment and frankenstein?
