So if you're wondering why there's a feline flag on the footage here uhhhh...that's an overlay I use for my stream and I spent 2 hours recording footage for this before I realized it was there. Completely and total accident buuuuuut I didn't wanna reshoot because it's midnight on a friday. I just kinda wanna go to bed. Anyways Her name is Princess Tummyflower and she's my best fuzzy friend irl so she gets to be in this episode.

Hi Matt and everyone! This is Jay, the creator of Kingdoms Adrift, chiming in to express my heartfelt gratitude. A big "Thank You" to all, especially Matt, for the incredible support. It was quite a coincidence, that this video was posted just two days before we rolled out the game's first major patch last month. While it addressed a lot of the issues discussed in this video, I hesitated to reach out here and on Discord at that point, as some challenges still lingered. Instead of making premature promises, our team decided to buckle down and work. Fast forward, and it's almost a month later - the patch that resolves every concern raised in this video is now live. I want to extend my sincere thanks to everyone who has been watching Matt and trying out the game. Your support means the world to us, and we're thrilled to have you on this journey together. - Jay

As HUGE Treasure Planet enjoyer, this game just ticks a lot things I like. Flying ships, combat, the whole 1800's theme (but in space!), building and fleets. Hell yea brother. Definitely checking this one out.

@@Nitidus the game literally shows ironclad warships. Ironclads were from 1800's. Dunno what else to tell you bro.
One thing that would really suck about living in a world where there are air ships covered in guns flying around is that cannon balls and bullets would just randomly fall out of the sky into your town all the time. Fortunately for me, I would probably spend most of my time in the air, so it wouldn’t really matter. This game looks great!

Very fair point.
This reminds me of treasure planet: battle at procyon, great game from the olden days. Might just pick it up for nostalgia
This is like Rebel Galaxy meets Sunless Skies, might pick it up myself
Unironically using pelf and yaper in the same sentence kind of makes me unironically love you man. That's digging deep into two very different boxes, and I'm all about that.
9:47 it's also allot like star sector. an absolute gem and one of my favorite tactical games. pretty sure you've done a vid of it. this vid reminded me of it so im off to re install. gonna grab this too, looks pretty decent itself. thanks for the vid splat.
I'm so glad you revisited this game! I had this on my wishlist but after it released the reviews seemed mixed, so I took it off. After watching this yesterday I checked the reviews again on steam and they've improved drastically. I bought it and I'm very glad I did! It's a great game (with a few flaws like you detailed). It's 2 parts Sid Meier's Pirates and one part Eve Online. Both are some of my favorite games. I do wish there was a 3rd party site where you can try different loadouts on different ships, like you can find in Eve, so you can tinker with your fittings without needlessly buying modules in the game.

That's actually a big issue more complex indie games regularly have, in my opinion: communities often tend to be too small for a large wiki or similar knowledge database to develop. Especially nowadays where sadly so much is conducted through Discord servers where there's no way to conveniently see or search through questions other people had already asked previously, and have them pop up in Google searches. Of course it depends on the game, I've visited Starsector's website a couple of hours ago and the devs explicitly either created or support a dedicated wiki for their game. Which is awesome, but realistically rather the exception than the rule. (Besides, the recent problems and controversies surrounding Fandom as a wiki provider make a lot of smaller communities switch to more obscure services or self hosting and are therefore even harder to find in the first place.)
Reminds a bit of sunless seas and skies.
Burst Cannons & increased fire rate skills... BRING ON THE DAKKA! 💢
The battles look very nice and detailed, especially the weaponry graphics. The game looks pretty and I'm definitely gonna add this to my list. Looks way better than the last time I saw this game being played.
Thanks for showcasing! ^^
It plays and looks like disneys treasure planet the old pc game but i am happy something like that released again nice to see
I member this one, it looked really cool last time you showed it, glad to learn it's realeased
This game has such detailed art style, I like it.
im always fascinated with this kind of game, i love port royale.
This is giving me back fond memories of Rebel Galaxy with the two-dimensional ship warfare, but steampunk insted of sci-fi, and more fleet orientated than your single ship and hired escort fighter in Rebel Galaxy. Rebel Galaxy Outlaw moving to 3D frigate-only combat lost the charm of the broadside Capital-class ship to ship combat. This seems quite promising.
Do you remember "Stratosphere: Conquest of the Skies"? They got the sky-castle-battle thing done nicely back in the day. This game with the ship optics and graphical "wake" trailing them looks more seafaring to me, than up in the skies.
It's so cool that Skies of Arcadia's gotten a spiritual sequel :V
Wow this looks really interesting!
😍omg love the content +1wishlist
Sid Meier Pirates! In space? Sign me up. Planning to buy this once they implement the wok updates
its a great game! i put lots of hours in it already. can recommend it to everyone. a bit of warning. everyone seems to judging the game by an old demo version which is not representing the current state of the game at all.
Thanks for reminding me to finish Skies of Arcadia.
To be a worthy successor to Uncharted Waters. I need a fun dueling mechanic. I need to be able to capture ships and have them in my fleet. I need supplies to travel and reach my destinations. Looks awesome though. Love the setting.
It looks fun!
Oh yes. This looks right up my ally. Customizable 1880's sky ships in a sand box.
This game reminds me of Starsector.. like a lot of it has, I already do in Starsector, except in 3D lol. Even the lower-left corner thing felt like it was lifted from Starsector. The no-item-level thing also felt like it was from SS, being that you probably need knowledge to know what ships are good for what purpose, but the general knowledge that bigger ships = stronger applies (other than for hauler ships like in SS's Atlas Superfreighter). Even the proximity missions that that pops out while you are cruising through felt like it was lifted from SS! And the combat! The combat FEELS like SS as well!, with the weapon cones, and how your other ships are AI (though to be fair, I know Warband does this system with the AI thingy earlier). But here's the thing, in SS, they have the RTS feature thing that you talk about that this specific game does not have, and it works quite well! Feels like this game fleshed out a bit more on the commission part of SS - generally speaking, in SS, if you get a commission from a faction, you can do most of everything in that factions name, while here, it's split to trade, manufacturing, and also combat. A cool innovation, and really does makes sense! But to me, I think I'll give this game a pass as it's basically SS but in 3D and less polished, and, from what I could see from your gameplay, not much content. Just play SS with Nexerelin slapped on, and you'd probably get a larger fill of content and polish from a $15 dollar game compared to this 3D version that costs $30.
So i played the demo and was kinda intrigued by it like half a year ago. After watching this i think ill give it some time to mature and iron out some kinks perhaps, add some QoL stuff and then pick it up on sale off my wishlist.
With a crew of drunken pilots we're the only airship pirates. We're full of hot air and we're starting to rise. We're the terror of the skies but a danger to ourselves now. ~ Abney Park "Airship Pirates"

This almost looks like a 3d version of Star Traders: Frontiers
I was mid-sip when I noticed the name in the top left corner. Half a second later and I might have needed a new keyboard.
“This is a ship that is deeply invested in the *murder of others* .” Bro where do you come up with this?
Hmmm this very much looks like Starsector Oh actually more like Stardrive2!! Loved that game...
Got this on release. One of those "I think I am having fun... no idea what I am doing" type games. Lots of stuff Splatt mentioned, like what Level am *I* exactly? Meant to go back to it now it has been patched but War Tales dropped a major update...
Im sold. I want this.
I played the demo a while back. It seemed pretty fun, though the controls were a bit clunky.
This reminds me a lot of Space Empire: Starfury. Old spin off back in the day but a lot of fun, except for the lack of QoL.

Childhood memories. Simply seeing the HUD in google pics brings a huge nostalgia blast.
a first major update is out, bringing allot of quality of life like an economy tab and a quest log.
If you're looking to try this, it has a demo, which unfortunately convinced me not to buy it. Looks interesting at first, but if you spend some time with it, the glaring issues become apparent. For one, the localisation seems to have been done by google translate or something (there are instances where the voice actors correct the incorrect grammar which makes it unintentionally funny) and there's also quite a few issues with the actual gameplay. At the moment it plays more like an early access game. Maybe it'll be refined somewhere down the line, who knows.

Interesting.. It reminds me of one of the lost great one 'Cloud Pirates' would love to see that comeback.. If the ships here would at least look and behave like that, it might have been instant buy.. For what it looks like now it has many many similarities to something like 'Uncharted Waters Online' that is fully free and well supported by its community, but also very very dated unfortunatly..
Agatha Schwartz sounds Finnish by her accent lol
the thing on the front of the Bronze Drake is actually a... bronze drake, not a gargoyle. A gargoyle is actually a decorative gutter, a religious symbol used for draining water. Gargoyle comes from Latin meaning gurgling water in the throat, well it actually just means throat. A drake is a dragon....im a nerd.
Splattercat buys a ship called a Bronze "Drake" and then calls the figurehead a gargoyle (it's clearly a Drake). Don't ever change, Splat. I was a huge fan of Sid Meier's Pirates and have been trying to find another game similar enough to scratch that itch. This looks very promising.

15:15 Well, no quest log is called "Ultima rules" RPG'ing because, iirc, the developer behind the iconic series didn't like hand holdy things like quest logs. If you thought something was important, like who wanted the what'sit, then you should make a note. I do think if a modern game wants to take that design approach, it should include an in game note pad
Battlefleet Victorian: Armada
This game shipped with most of the content disabled, but it does scratch an itch.

This looks like an Uncharted Waters inspired game mixed with sid Meyers elements in all the best ways. I found sid Meyers too campy and uncharted waters is pretty well past outdated so I think this will fill a void in a lot of gamers childhoods. Excellent job by the devs all around.
I spent north of 10 hours on the demo right before launch, and I found myself really wanting to like it (I love the concept and broad strokes) but very dissatisfied with a lot of the details. It was just too player-unfriendly for me to get into. Updates since then have done a lot to help, and that combined with their published roadmap covers the vast majority of my complaints, so I'm hoping it will be in a good state to pick up around Christmas or early next year. Balance in both economy (trying to earn money is miserable) and certain ship components is still one that stands out. I'm also not a fan of the kill squads mechanic with fleets teleporting in constantly. And I would really love more interaction with the islands themselves or more terrain in the sailing layer. That said, there are a ton of good QoL improvements either in or coming, and it's great to see them taking criticism to heart and working to adjust and improve things. EDIT: I should note I also really, _really_ hope they rework the targeting some day since it hasn't been improved yet. Having guns with wider fire arcs is worthless when I still have to turn my whole ship to get the gunners to not shoot at the enemy's tail (which misses constantly because they don't lead targets at all).
More Moria?
I'm still waiting for a game like that which won't be so damn ugly... shame. There is something called art direction but this developer never heard of it.
this really seems intresting but the reflection like surface in the sky feels off
@GameTimeWhy

Yeah it makes it feel "weird" to me and took a while to figure out why.
When I saw the naval combat in assassin's creed, my #1 biggest complaint is that it felt about 100% like Mario Kart on water and about 0% like any time I have ever been on a boat, ever... The counter to this is that naval combat games that work well with realism and tension like Empire Total War and such feel way too slow for casual gamers. I like the way this game appears to have resolved that. When it's boring just speed up time, so everyone can move faster (empire total war has this too). But I've always hated AC naval combat with a passion because of this. Sad that a little title like this does a better job. Also, notice that French people have French accents and Spanish people have Spanish accents. Ahem. UNITY.... Looking at you!
The ONLY thing that bugs me is that the 'sky' is basically just a different flavor of 'sea'. I'd love to see more 360 motion in the fights and backgrounds. I don't mind it being on a single plane, but, for example, in Rebel Galaxy the single plane of gameplay is punctuated by fighters, smaller ships, asteroids, and objects having 360 freedom. It still feels like space even if you are confined to just playing on a flat plane yourself.
Hmm the lack of any verticality makes this feel like you are sailing on a glass surface, I get why altitude changes would make it an entirely different beast to code but it’s kinda of glaringly 2D
