My Thoughts on the Fat over Lean Rule

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is not like the formula paintings Bob Ross created that so many artists around the world have come to love. My painting style is based on principles professional artists use like abstract color shapes, edge quality for greater realism, shadow and highlight, color theory or convincing color relationships and establishing correct values throughout the painting.

About the Artist:
Learn from impressionist Bill Inman as he demonstrates how to breathe life into loose abstract color masses.
For more than 30 years he has been selling his work through galleries around the country as a full time artist.
He is classically trained with 5 years of figure and head drawing from the model; advanced pastel, watercolor and oil painting from life and holds an MFA in studio painting.
He is a recipient of the Congressional Art Award, has been featured in Southwest Art Magazine and has his work in collections around the world.
These colors and techniques generally apply equally well with oil or acrylic paint.
"My goal is to help viewers feel like they are looking out a window or doorway into a beautiful scene, one that beckons to forget the world a while and simply enjoy the peace and serenity, the incredible beauty Heavenly Father has provided."
Bill and his beautiful wife Kristie have 7 children and several grandchildren. "They are my deepest source of joy and inspiration!"
Enjoy, and Happy Painting!!

That used to be true of Vasari, but lately when I use Vasari paint a LOT of oil is coming out even after a tube has been in use!! Very disappointed . Never had that with them before

H E L P ANYONE! - How do I follow the fat over lean rule when using fast dry Walnut Alkyd Medium. Since each layer will dry quickly, can I then ignore the fat over lean rule for the next and next layers? It makes sense to me but I can't find an answer anywhere. As long as each layer is drying faster than the next one above it, that seems to make each previous layer ok to paint upon by using the same amount of Walnut Alkyd Medium. Is this logic correct? I've been delayed months now in painting oil portraits because I must be sure my work is archival before I sell an oil portrait. ..... Thanks for any clarification on this subject. ...... I own 2 150 ml. tubes of Lefranc titanium white and the only pigment listed on the tube is PW6. Are you saying they put zinc in it but they don't list it on the tube? Thanks

@@masteroilpainting Thanks for the reply. My tubes were made before the company rebranding, maybe they changed the formula, maybe not. FWIW I own some W&N "titanium white", which has zinc in it (they list it on the label) and it behaves differently than the Lefranc one. The Lefranc white is stronger in mixes and dries stickier. Like you say, maybe the Lefranc mixture has a small amount of zinc, I read that some manufacturers add a tiny amount of zinc just to make the paint workable. I also read that zinc is more of a problem for paintings on canvas.
