Hey Pete, I will continue to follow because honestly I like to see what you come up with. And to be quite honest I have thought about switching over myself due to the summer’s and the stress it just put’s on my fescue and I am looking for something easier that can take the heat and not cost me an arm and leg in Irrigation. At my old house I ended up switching to Zorro Zoysia and I absolutely loved it. So like you said it is your yard and I will continue to watch and support you here from TN.

With sprinklers going all week, my Speaders Elite with from green and lushes to browned out in a week. After 4 years, we are going to be smoking it off next year for Alpha Elite. We love the fescue, but between not being able to water it enough for the 110+ summers and time for maintenance, it's time for the switch. I'll just paint the Bermuda in the winter. Let’s do this Pete! I have Zoysia sod in my upstate SC front and sides and a gorgeous ‘weed bed’ in the back. 🤣 I’ve been planning to smoke ‘em off and start a full reno in the back yard (~14k sq.ft.) with Zoysia or Bermuda. Don’t worry about losing viewers, I’ve been here with you for over 3 years and never once worried about your grass type. It’s more about the man and our shared passions. God, family, work ethic, and Grass. Probably a lil’ equipment envy in there too. 🤪 I think you’ll gain viewers based on the variety and most importantly, God’s hand. Wish you the best!

@@pkn920 Same here... I guess it's the lesser of the 2 evils then. I think I would rather have a possible brown lawn during the Summer than brown all Winter. I have a nice lawn during the Fall and Winter. Mine doesn't really look dull until late December or early Jan. I usually get a final cut and trim in around the week of Thanksgiving or the first week of Dec when I get up the last of the falling leaves. I feed it well so it usually stays locked in until March when things start moving again...

I live in Garner, NC and my neighbors' bermuda struggled just as much as my fescue during the drought, even those that water regularly. After the recent rain, the fescue has recovered and looks almost as vigorous as the bermuda. Once you consider how many months the bermuda is dormant while I'm able to stripe the fescue, it's a no brainer to me: I'm sticking with tall fescue.

I tried establishing GCI turf type tall fescue lawn here in San Bernardino. Worked really hard prepping for it and tried to make it work. It's just not working out. Have had some very short periods where it looked great and I love the striping. But it only looks great for a very short time of the year - it just can't stand up to the long hot summer here. Burning it down and switching to Alpha Elite bermuda so see how that goes. I was already convinced, and this video just confirms making the switch for me. Thanks Pete

With the age of this video, it is unlikely you will see this, but Bermuda, in my opinion, is beautiful at any length. Having it does not commit future owners to keeping it short. My father kept his at 4.5 inches and it was one of the densest and greenest years I have walked on. When it turned brown, it stayed thick and still looked great.

Pete I live in hamlet nc now and I tried the tall fescue when I planted my new yard which was trees for many many years. It did ok last fall had a green yard all winter with fescue and rye. Spring came and it went dormant and summer grass has taken over. Since before the drought I’ve watered my 1 acre of grass 3 times a week when the drought came almost my whole yard died out now I have almost a full yard of Bermuda/ st Augustine. Water hasn’t stopped and I’ve applied fertilizer every 3 weeks regardless of rain amounts. We just had several hrs of rain over the last week and the summer grass is thriving. I learned this past year to let the grass that wants to be there grow and maintain it and you will be happy with it

Pete, honestly speaking it doesn't matter what kind of grass you are growing, you can grow it with the best of them. Family time is so important these days. If the Bermuda provides an oppurinty to spend time with children I am all for it. TBH i am killing off my bermuda in my front yard and planting clover, due to me not having time to maintaing the bermuda. No matter what you decide to do, I am still a die hard devoted fan of yours, you have thought me so much, that I actually used when I had my lawn business. My recomendation would be the Celebration Bermuda. I had a client that had this in thier front yard, I mowed it low and it was always dark green and beautiful. I guess what I am trying to say in laymen's terms. "You do what you feel you need to do for you and your family, and don't care about what others think."

I personally enjoy when you sit down and share what's going on in your head. Kinda like sittin down with gramps and some potato salad bbq, and iced tea. Couple things real quick. 1- I don't care if you start growing monkey grass. I'm not going anywhere as a GCI customer or subscriber. Your company and channel have meant to much to me in my lawn care journey. 2- Many of us have been thinking about other grass types. I shared with you on a leveling video that I thought about Bermuda grass as well. I've been researching Iron Cutter as it has been cultivated to survive harsh winters. So do it man! Someday I may make the journey with you and I cant think of a better person to show the way. 3- Maaan listen. If anyone would pass up on buying a home and yard maintained by one Peter Denny regardless of the turf type, well they're just special! I told you sir, and forgive me if this is too personal, but your passion and gift is a blessing to the yards you work on. Not just a business transaction. Don't fear losing customers or a lack luster opinions of your decisions. As the Psalms say.. "Steps of a righteous man or ordered by the Lord. And "whatsoever he puts his hands to shall prosper." You can't lose sir! Be Blessed!!

I have Celebration in my yard. I chose this because I only have 6-7 hours of sun. So it works better in the shade than 419 or TifTuf. Also, it has a more sense root system so while 419 and TifTuf are very drought tolerant, Celebration is even better. I’m in Clayton NC so I feel you when you tell about hot and dry. I watch storm after storm split and go around me. But the Celebration stood strong. 2+ months with no water and it was thriving. Only recently did it show any hot spots and they were taken care of by the rain we finally got Friday. So I’m good for the rest of the summer. 😂😂

I will tell you though, you are the reason I'm thinking really hard about replacing my KBG with TTTF in fall because I want to mow TALL soooooooo badly. I’m in middle Tennessee and I started my turf journey because of building a new house and I stumbled upon your channel and fell in love with fescue first but also had a fascination with all types once I figured out fescue. With the summer heat and drought we have been having I have been highly considering doing the rest of my yard, which is the biggest portion (like 73,000 sq ft), in Bermuda just due to the maintenance of it being significantly less. I work a full time job that is 12 hr days and I mow other properties on my off days and also have 4 year old triplets so saving time and money on maintenance would be a plus and I would slightly be ok with a slow down in turf care come fall/winter at my own property. I’ve always liked both but I think I would love Bermuda just as much as fescue! Can’t wait to see your videos on this grass type as well and will be looking at your alpha elite come next spring/summer!

To my knowledge there are no seeds for hybrid or dwarf Bermudas. Has to be sod or plugs. Not sure sprigging is the way to go for install, but could be wrong. Improved or enhanced common Bermuda yes for seeds.

I’ve sold three houses of my own (all had nice lawns) people commented on my lawn but that didn’t make or break the sale (I don’t think most people care as long as it’s nice). I can speak to the two fears you have: 1. Here in OK, we have Bermuda grow right up next to fescue. It never affects it and if it does, you can not tell at all. 2. This channel will continue to grow, just like the new Bermuda. Personally, I’d love to see videos of how you implement your renovation guides. I think it would be incredibly helpful. Side note: I grew up hitting golf balls with my parents in a little 3/4 acre field next to our house. I’m 53 and both parents have passed. It’s a memory that I still treasure and tell others about. Also, if you are interested, Latitude 36 is a great cultivar, although you can only get it in sod form. It greens up the quickest and stays green the longest in our state.

I transitioned my TTTF to Blue heat 2 season ago. Williamsburg area of VA. Keep it at 2" height until mid May; 3.5-4" once we're in June through September. The area that gets intermittent shade has done awesome with 1.5" of water a week. Other section of the yard that gets full sun is getting smoked this season (increased to 2" water a week but it may have been too late to head off the stress). Can't say I regret moving to Blue heat but the areas with full sun need a lot of attention compared to TTTF. Need to increase weekly water schedule in the full sun section for next season and see how that goes.

Two questions, you are known for your stripping of your lawn and I currently have Emerald Zoysia front lawn and I know warm season grass doesn’t stripe as well as cool season, how will this affect your decision process? Secondly looking at purchasing your GCI Alpha Elite Bermuda grass seed for my back yard, why go with springs instead of seed?

@@chriskemp6636 I’ve cut as low as 5/8 last year with a reel mower in it’s first season but that was too low without the yard being leveled so it didn’t look the best even the grass seemed to be able to take it.
