MY THAILAND VISA DRAMAS

In today's travel vlog, I am off to extend my visa. The process is quite extensive and it was my first time doing it in Bangkok at the Bangkok Immigration. I was having problems getting my visa extended because I didn't meet a requirement.

I was relieved when I moved to Udonthani and the immigration office was a small friendly walk in office as opposed to the hassle of the time accusing Bangkok immigration office.

As much as you love Bangkok, you might learn to hate Bangkok immigration visits. This huge complex (Chaeng Wattana Government Complex) houses a bunch of ministries, foreign ministry e.g., central courts, government agencies etc.pp. Immigration is just a small piece of it. It demonstrates the extreme centralisation in this country. Everything Bangkok. In at 11, out at 3 PM? Call yourself lucky. Last time spent in Khon Kaen office was less than 30 minutes (one year extension).

I was doing my retirement visa extension for years and once they moved to Chaeng Wattana it steadily became a nightmare. I was able to show a very healthy bank account balance far more than was required by the medical insurance and I always transferred more into Thailand each year than was required but they still insisted on a medical insurance. Every year it steadily got worse the paperwork that was being demanded. Copies of all previous visa extensions as if they had never been recorded on their computer system and then applying for a multiple re-entry visa I had to supply a copy of the visa that had just been stamped into my passport and which they could see with their own eyes. As if you could apply for a multiple re-entry visa without first being granted the extension. I decided last year to go back to my own country and will return to Thailand for the occasional visit. Agreed I am not one of the super elites that they want to attract but nevertheless in my own modest way I did make a positive contribution which has now been lost.

I used to fly out of Bkk purposely to do my visa extensions. Chaengwattana is a nightmare. At least it was quiet for you mate. Under normal circumstances that place is rammed and can take 5-6 hours once in the queue.

Always wear long trousers..If you can do the visa yourself I wouldn't recommend using a agent, unless you really need one. They can help sometimes but they dont. Its always difficult the first time you do this you learn as you go along. BKK is one of the more stricter offices. At least its not busy there at the minute. Get there early at least 6-7 am you will be in and out before the lunch break. TM30 youre supposed to inform immigration every time you leave the province and return, when you stay in a hotel there are supposed to do it for you. If you leave the country make sure you do your TM30 within a day. Things change all the time though. Hope that helps a bit.

Hua Hin is Hands down the easiest place as far I know to make or renew your visa. Same with some places in Isan and sure Chiang Mai is a better place to. But paperwork and requirements is the same, or almost, you can never be sure what they need exactly the day you show up. If you have the paper, they do not need it, if you dont have, then be sure they need it ;-)

Jumped on the train Central coast to Thai embassy in Macquarie st Sydney too easy. Arrived before opening no people downstairs waiting ? Only one Thai lady ,a courier came out of the lift he said you look like you need the embassy we said yes he said public holiday in Thailand embassy closed grrr, came back next day submitted all paperwork thought I could collect it in the afternoon? No come back in 3 days? My god, lucky my daughter worked close to the embassy she collected it for me. 2022 I will post it
