My Tesla Suspension is Fixed! (How it SHOULD Be)

I finally got my Tesla suspension set to how I wanted it and how it should come form the factory. As a reminder I have the Unplugged Coilover suspension and I had to mess with it a little to see what setting would suit me best. Luckily I found it and I hope this helps.

I would probably play with the settings a little more and probably set the Front at around 0-2 for max comfort to the driver, but the Back around 3-5. This will help level out the car when you have weight in the back trunk or passengers in the back seats. Also, anytime you accelerate, the back wont come down as much at a 3-5 compared to the 0 where the G forces seem to it sink down to the ground a lot.

If setting zero is best it suggests there needs to extension of damper range. Equivalent to fractional or negative settings - lower than zero. More sophisticated bushings attaching mass supporting load paths may be needed to get rid of the crashing noise (booming / banging) when going over sharp bumps. Tuning that out with springs / dampers may not be possible. Some bushing changes will worsen handling - which is why race cars often get Heim joints or urethane bushings. More suspension control at the expense of a harsher and noisier ride. Squat or dive is affected by suspension geometry. For instance, tipping the angle of the front wishbone down at the front diminishes dive and squat - although at some ride quality penalty. As you said, lots of tradeoffs.

Great content. Suspension feel is very subjective to your point. I love my MYP suspension. I’ve always favored vehicles with firm suspensions with great road feel. Case in point was my 2003 BMW 330XI manual that I still had up to a couple years ago. I much preferred the ride compared to the newer, non M BMW’s. At some point, maybe all Tesla models will allow buyers to configure the suspensions to their liking.

I had a Model S with air supsension.. it wasn't more cushy (on the 2014) it allowed the car to move higher or lower, but the overall ride quality was not better.. (pre raven models of course) in the higher suspension, where I would place it when I had my bike rack on the trailer hitch... it would be so rough of a ride.

Nice video, good to see you tinkering with the settings. I would probably go with setting 0 and not lower the suspension because my driveway is outrageously steep, it’s ike a launch ramp 25% grade 100 feet long 30% at the bottom. So, it would bottom one corner of the car if I were to attempt it at speed. The top is fine, but the bottom of the drive is so crazy that an underinflated tire can actually come of the rim making the corner.

How is the cornering with the setting at zero? How much more body roll? I’d also be interested to see if there is a measurable difference in range with the stiffer or softer settings.

I would say get the car first and see how you like it before you order the suspension. Also yea you could put the suspension on you would just have to return it to stock before you turn the car in which is annoying

I've been driving BMWs for the last three cars. The suspension on the '21 M3LR seems quite similar to the 3 series BMW and even to the 5 series, but a wee bite softer would be nice. On the 0-32 scale did you test to see where the standard Tesla suspension might be? That would be interesting to know.
