I am a welder and we use cut off discs called metabo slicers. They are widow makers for sure. But they are very useful for opening up root gaps, cutting pipe and material, and other fit up needs. But if you do it wrong you are asking for it. Now that being said you never ever run a grinder with one hand. That’s why they include another handle that most people remove and throw away. You have a motor spinning a disc at around 10,000 rpm. Also you always position the grinder to throw sparks/ debris towards you. That way is it does bind up it will kick back away from you. Also never grind on a blade 180° from cord end aka the tip. You can’t handle the torque when it binds up from that position. All that is dangerous with a regular disc on it. That chain saw disc can really bite down and kick hard, I promise you ain’t strong enough to stop it when it happens.

Or should you have been using it correctly, by using the extra handle, holding it with 2 hands, and the work piece firmly mounted in some sort of holding device. A face shield may be a good idea as well. So glad you got lucky, but please don't test your guardian angels again, It's hard work for them to direct crap like that away from your jugular. No I wouldn't use one, and there is a reason they are banned from job sites.

I can't believe you got this on tape!!!. Same thing happaned to me in Summer 2022 with same grinder holding with 2 hands, no protector, no handle and this chainsaw attachment. One big difference was that I was wearing a T-shirt. Result?: Emergency room with deeper cuts on my left bicep ans chest w/5 staples!!! I was lucky the shirt was tangled into the grinder. I am wiser now though. Instead of getting fid of the tool I always use the grinder with protector and the bar handle for better support (also safety goggles) Makes a world of difference!!! I wish you a fast recovery mate🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Thank you for sharing. Now I have a reference to show people what I went through!❤

I think it should come in a box plastered with kickback zone safety briefings. If your body is at 6 oclock, and the grinder (looking from the top down, like you would when using it) is pointing to 12 oclock, cut with the portion of the blade after 12, but before 6, assuming the blade moves clockwise (looking top down.) If it moves counter clockwise, cut in the zone after 6, but before 12. That way when the blade binds, and you get kickback, it throws it away from your body. Doing the opposite (like displayed in the split second before you got nailed) will kick the grinder back towards you

Gotta say Pete I like your content but your technique with the grinder was a bit to blame here. Never operate the grinder in a way that if it kicks it pulls toward you. I've used this attachment a fair bit and I've noticed two things 1 it needs to be sharpened often as there are far less teeth doing the work at a much higher speed. Secondly it's easy to get carried away thinking it's a solution to every problem. It's not the way it cuts and the lack of speed control makes it very dangerous to use in tight spaces. ALSO never use without the guard and handle. Two hands on the tool at all times just like a chainsaw.

Thankfully he was able to get to the neighbors and to the hospital quick and it didn't cut all the way through the tendons in his forearm.

Its good of you to upload this and show your mistakes and potential hazards. I am glad it 'tis but a scratch'! that you got. Could have been a lot worse. You could make several arguments for how you could have used the tool safer, but ultimately that thing looks as though it'll always cause injuries. Chainsaws have several safety mechanisms that help protect the user, chains love to bite also rather than cut, and anything thats gonna bite and dig into a work piece shouldn't be anywhere near an angle grinder.

In my opinion I think they're fine but you have to use them as specific way so that if it does kick it kicks out of your hand away from you rather than out of your hand towards you and that it's just to do with the way the direction the blade spinning with relation to yourself. But I've also haven't seen a job you couldn't just do with a handsaw.

Yeah, those things cause so many injuries. Unlike a chainsaw there is no centripetal clutch and chain brake. They attack you repeatedly. Usually while you flail around in blind panic causing a 2nd, 3rd even 4th attacks as the chain grabs and pulls into your clothing while you fight it off. Chain saw discs for angle grinders fall into a category of things I will never touch.
