My name is Abi (pronounced like Abbie) but my 2nd-grade teacher REFUSED to pronounce it the correct way - she said ab -EYE!! I was so upset! It was also embarrassing, and people teased me about it all the time. She would even tell kids off for pronouncing it the correct way, saying it was unkind and disrespectful to say someone's name wrong even though they were saying right! Eventually, she gave me a detention and called in my parents to chat. Guess who got in more trouble?! Yup! She was put on a break (like, she was suspended, but for teachers). I remember that when she came back, I had moved up to grade 3, and she ended up being the Teaching Assistant for that class. Surprise, surprise, she started pronouncing it properly then! Such a stupid fiasco!!

My name was supposed to be Aprildawn. No spaces. When I was born, legally, it got put in as April Dawn. I was writing it Aprildawn my whole life until I became an adult and discovered that all my legal documents had it the other way. I was the one getting upset when standardized tests and other stuff from the school would have my name written down with the space between.

I’m from Russia and my name is Юля but it was translated to Iuliia on legal documents. I would always write my name as Julia since that’s the other way of translating it. One time we were making a poem out of the letters in our names and I finished and gave mine to the teacher like always. Instead of saying it’s good she said that I wrote my name wrong and I had to redo it and to add on to the she also through out my poem.

My teachers in elementary school would silently correct me by spelling my name the supposed "right way", so I fired back by spelling my name the right way, then spelling the incorrect way underneath crossing it out. I eventually learned to laugh it off and not expect teachers to pay attention to that

People don't force me how to "correctly" say or spell my last name but I do have something similar happen, my last name comes from Irish origins (I think) so it starts with Mc. And it has a weird spelling, it has two g's in it but one is silent so people often don't put it, it's also pronounce not how it's spelled so it's often said wrong, but I don't care it's fun to see what people come up with, at the end my name is "hey" so I like to under line it when I write my name sometimes as a joke, my friends also turned it into a MJ joke so when ever they say my last name they will add "he he" at the end, I find it hilarious 😂

At one point I chose Azurite as one of my names. Apparently older Dutch folks struggled a lot with that one, they said it as ‘Ah-zur-ree-tuh’, only getting the zur part right. They sometimes even say Ethan wrong. Some say it as ‘Ay-th-han’ instead of ‘Ee-thun’.

I haven’t gotten that I spell it wrong, but I’ve had someone tell me I pronounce my name wrong. This guy knew me for like almost 2 years at this point, the entire first year of him knowing me he pronounced my name right, then after a year he got a friend who’s name is *very* similar to mine, and he starts calling me by her name instead. One day when I corrected him for the millionth time he goes off on me saying I pronounce my name wrong and that I “definitely told him it’s [wrong pronunciation], not [right pronunciation]”. I told him that I’m pretty sure I know how to pronounce my own damn name

My teachers never really said i spelled my name wrong but they did pronounce my name wrong

“what is your name?” “its veronika.” *spells with c* “uhm- its actually spelt with a k-” the struggle seeing my name spet wrong 😫

My name is Aldin. People always spell and say my name wrong. Like, they would say "Aiden", "Alvin", or "Aladin". One time, it even got to the point where I had a mental breakdown because of it.

My mom's name is Scarlet. It has two spellings that are common. Scarlet (like the color) and Scarlett. You'd think the first one was the one everyone jumps to when writing but NO. around here, everyone assumes it is Scarlett. she went back to college a few years ago and despite telling the teachers and dean MANY times how it is spelled, they kept misspelling it. IT IS SPELLED WRONG ON HER DIPLOMA!!!

When I was in 1st grade my teachers never herd the name Wiley before apparently so they kept calling me “Riley” instead or “Wiley” and they kept spelling my name “R I L E Y” and I spelled it “W I L E Y” and my teacher got so mad that she made me write my name for the whole time instead of playing during free time and she also called my parents and told them: “Your daughter is saying her name is Wiley instead of Riley and she also spells her name with a ‘W’ and not a ‘R’” and my parents said: “She’s saying and spelling her name right she’s has the entire time!” My teacher got very embarrassed and she hated me for the rest of the year I also hated her -_-

My name: MacKynzie My teacher be like: HEY HEY HEY HOLD UP: Mackenzie. That looks better 👍

I have a fairly common name, but its so common my name gets spelt wrong all the time because of the many different varieties
