I think Max is doing great! He seems very comfortable around horses-did he ever ride before meeting you? You’re a great couple!

You did FABULOUS Max!! I can provide some help as an instructor who has taught very tall male riders: 1. Stirrup extendors-they will add length to your stirrups if they are too short and if you can’t find extra long ones. 2. Use polo wraps around your calves so you don’t get rubs. Choose thin one so they aren’t too bulky. 3. Because you are a volleyball players, you will need to stretch out your inner and outer muscles-do runner’s stretches before and after. Also, rotate your ankles before and after since you primarily are on your toe for volleyball. 4. If you can find a different saddle that will also help position. Max’s leg is so long, I think he’d need an 18.5 inch seat. You did fantastic! I just can’t believe how tiny you make Dex look. FYI-I love my Charles Owen Hampton too! Best helmet ever!

He actually did way better than I'd expect from such a tall guy!! His rise trot by the end was way better than at the start (big improvement for first time doing it)!

It's hard not to correct them, they're working with your baby! I was helping one of the young kids to tack up at my yard, and by helping, I mean being taller than a 10yr old handling a 16hh horse, and it was so hard to keep quiet. I just had to keep reminding myself they have to learn to do it themselves, and they don't have the strength to tighten the girth too tight, or anything. It's hard, it's so hard.

Lolol this was me with my brother. It's like you're trying to teach someone who has never been on a horse in their life and you go out there with thoughts of rider position and using leg aids and half halts and you've literally forgotten they don't know how to make him stop. You just forget how much you had to learn when you first started.

Hahaha love it... also Max is right there is a fade in horse clips. You can fade out harsh lines. So e.g. along the mane, and if you leave the legs, you can fade those too. I always do full clips, but usually fade the mane area. However, ideally you have smaller clippers and they have to be adjustable in length of the clip. :-) Would be a fun video too: Max clipping a horse. Take care you guys! PS: Max seems very sweet!

how much does he weigh? is it actually okay for 6ft men to ride horses, like weight wise? i never knew that, i thought they had to be skinny and short af

  • @heartpounds

horses can safely carry up to 20% of their body weight. you don’t have to be short at all, in fact many riders are tall and they prefer a tall rider in equitation classes. i’m 5’9 but can ride bigger ponies because i only weigh 137lbs. as long as you are 20% or less of their body weight you’re fine
