I bring 2 family size tea bags to a boil then turn down and let simmer for 2-3 mins. I pour and mix together in a gallon pitcher over 1 1/2 cups sugar, then continue to add water over the tea bags in the boiler and pour into my pitcher until full. No bitter taste at all. The more tea bags you use, and the longer you boil it or let it steep, the more stronger/bitter it will taste.

Love it! Love your utensils jar! I will try with the Stevia! I have heard not to steep tea over 7 minutes because it becomes bitter after that (Barista knowledge/tip). This is why the baking soda is probably balancing out the bitterness afterwards.

The soda also helps to keep your sweet tea from turning cloudy once it's cooled and has been sitting overnight. Growing up, my family always had to make "double-strength" tea, and, when we needed a gallon, we put half the DS tea in with half water. Also, we used to used the "loose tea leaves" (forget how much) and had to strain it using a sieve. We also ran cool water over those leaves, gettin' more of the tea flavor - we let the tea "steep" at least 10 minutes, then made the DS tea. Our tea recipe made two gallons of DS, and, we used either 4 family sized or 16 regular sized bags (when loose tea was no longer available) to 4 cups sugar for two DS gallons of tea - with a family of six people, the tea didn't last long in our house - LOL! ... Plus, don't forget how sweet tea (and unsweet) is always best when it has set overnight at least one night before drinking it. (TIP:. If you only get or have instant tea, boil the tea and water together before sweetening it to help make it taste less instant! And, the soda is a must with instant to keep it from turning cloudy! 😉) Thank you for sharing your recipe cause I'd not made sweet tea in such a long time that I forgot the ratio of tea to sugar. Your recipe reminded me of how much we always used - exactly (I think - 😁.) Thanks bunches - pun intended, LOL!!!
