    I am also knitting the dk socks by the crazy sock lady. It has been fun. I just cast on another pair using the no fear shortie sock pattern. July will be my month of knitting socks🧦

    Love knitting socks! I joined both Stephen West sock club and Helen Stewart Curious Handmade. Two entirely different styles. Crazy Sock Lady has great tutorials on afterthought heels that maybe you've seen. I like using her method for better fit more than shadow wrap. Heel flap and gusset is my favorite heel for fit. Toe up socks are a nice change... Andrea Mowry's sock patterns are really good toe up patterns. Especially her DRK everyday socks are so good! They look weird when done but they fit beautifully ! And, yes self striping is SO FUN! enjoy your sock knitting journey!

    Great video Svenja. I’m currently getting obsessed with sock knitting. I’ve always used DP needles but just bought ChiaoGoo 9” needle set and am loving knitting in the round. I also bought a set of Flexi Flips made by Addi but haven’t tried them out yet. I want to compare the two. Your shorties will have to be on my needles soon. So cute for summer and gifting! Anxious to see all your socks this summer!

    thank you for another wonderful post! I have socks going all the time and really enjoyed hearing your list, very inspiring and I will likely try a few on your list too. I have enjoyed trying as many different sock yarns as possible and keep my family living in the Midwest with a sock drawer of hand knits. Since i live in Southern California knitting socks is a year round activity for me. Looking forward to seeing you again soon! I have found German sock yarns to be some of the best wearing. Also, big box stores Patons Kroy wears super well. I love the affordability and colors of yarns for socks, it opens the door for everyone to knit. I also make it a point when traveling to check if any yarn shops are there, i purchase a skein for socks and that's my souvenir from my travels. The days of hauling home "stuff" is over 🙂

    I agree about German yarns and Patons Kroy sock yarns being hard wearing. I have some socks made from Reggia that are over 10 years old. I recently patched the heels.

    Stripes are such a fun addition to a basic pair of socks! I CO 64 stitches, 2x2 ribbing for 1.75", knit 15 rows of gray, then started alternating 3 rows of red stripes with 15 rows of gray. There's a great video by Nimble Needles on how to knit jogless stripes in the round. Hope that helps!

    Beautiful socks. I have always wanted to make socks but I have a hard time making the second one - second sock syndrome - but I’m hoping to get over that and knit some socks this summer. I’m curious which method you use when u add the contrasting color so it’s not bumpy or have a knot ? Thank you 💖

    I, too, love knitting socks. Usually have at least 3 pairs going. One on dpns, one on 9" circs and 2 as taat on 42" cable Chiagoos (which is my favorite as both socks are done at the same time!). My favorite heel is the FLK heel. Once I learned it, I will never go back to heel and gusset. The fit is perfect and looks so professional.... like a store bought sock. Plus, it's fun to do. Enjoy your summer sock adventure. I'm looking forward to seeing a full box of socks at summers end!

    Rhinebeck roomies by the crazy sock lady is a great textured pattern to knit! I have 3 pairs of socks on my needles including a secret graduation gift for my nephew. I’m knitting him Batman socks! It’s a self striping yarn with a gray mini. He just graduated from UMASS Boston with a degree in physics engineering and mathematics. He’s loved Batman since he was a little guy…now he’s 27!!!😮❤

    I too, am focused on socks this summer. The jogless join I like is to add thr new yarn. Knit the round, stopping at the first stitch in the new yarn. Before you knit that stitch, lift the back part of the stitch below, placing it with that first stitch. Do a k2tog. You do need to keep the yarn snugged up; I also give it a little tug. I really liked the ruffled shorties. Kim

    Just curious - sounds like your first pair of socks are more of a “museum piece” if you will. What keeps you from wearing those? Sounds like it’s still a favorite pattern of yours. Have you found a way to make that pattern work better for you? Do you have tips for a new sock knitter?

  • @svenjaknits

    @svenjaknits

    I stopped wearing them after I had made other pairs, so now I hold onto them as a keepsake! My #1 tip to new sock knitters is to knit as many vanilla socks as possible. You will naturally gain skill and knowledge as you make them and can learn how to alter the pattern to best fit your foot.
