Andrew, watching you paint is so mesmerising. I learnt so much from this video, both during the critique session and the painting session.( I must admit, I was thinking it was a test for us.) I just love the changes you did to this image and it is refreshing to know and to assure all of us, that even you, who I have put right up there on the highest pedestal, is humble enough to allow us to critique your work and you took it on the chin and went with the flow. Thank you so much. I just love watching you create your magic and all the comedy is a bonus. Keep on doing what you are doing

The first painting was definitely claustrophobic with the two trees on either side. The new one just makes me feel so much more free and the brighter colours make the scene so much more alive. Definitely a good choice when removing the tree on the right.

I would shift the angle of perspective on the last waterfall as to keep the details in the right bank. Push the left bank more into the mid-ground by changing the tones & reducing the details. Extend the width of the canvas & lower the horizon line to include more sky. I 💛 the flow lines of the waters.

I love critiques so much 😆 they always make you reconsider and think from a different perspective. The size of those trees on the right side mid ground hold similar size, that’s my primary critique. Maybe can still have two bigs and one medium, medium size tree in the mid ground, right to funnel eye towards the falls. Those epic paintings you mentioned before are primarily getting that atmosphere from the lighting, almost heavenly spot glow with a combination of sharpe planes of light and softer direct light. Brilliant work, absolutely fantastic to consistently be considering the geology and flora. You’re making me want to come back to painting and spend less time on work. Edit: You had the right idea about the whole glacier change, one medium skewed triangle shape to the waterfall, another larger skew triangle following to the right side of the picture plane following the top mountain’s ridge line. That would have been ooooooooosonoice. (medium skew triangle leads to waterfall cavity, large skew triangle following ridge line to the right side of picture plane, then medium tree size dip on the right mid ground trees to lead eye back towards the waterfall. You’re so good at textures !😖)

I like Rachael's comment. That painting held it's own and this is just another separate painting so you can't loose Andrew. You now have two gorgeous paintings. Thanks for the peek at other infamous artistic works as well. They just really opened the view of what all we we're looking at and it sparks all our imaginations. They definitely look like places we'd like to be spending time in. Well done Andrew and it's good to see how you take those "What if's." Let's face it the possibilities are endless. What matters is you keep your mind's eye open to broadening the view without taking it as a rejection of your concept. Creators create and seeing even more ways to do that is exciting. If I stand still gazing out a huge picture window at a mountain, all kinds of changes happen just with the passing of time. The light and color and nature are always happening around us. I like to think of it as watching God paint. We all know that if we move a few steps to the right or the left, the whole scene, perspective and meaning can change. It's exciting isn't it? Build on what you have and thank you for sharing and adding to our possibilities. Thanks.

On occasion I tried to oil paint myself. I started out with the familiar things of landscape. A lot more simple than your work. I can tell you that for sure. LOL now I'm trying what I never used to care for it still life a lot more challenging than I thought. Same as if everything has got to be propped. And most of it is not natural looking. I have most of the tools you do but I’ve been procrastinating about adding them to my workflow, this video has inspired me to get off my duff! 😁 Thank you Andrew!

This is so beautiful... The early painting was really cool, amazing... but the new version just make it more wow to it. The brightness make details so appreciable and bright mood to it... I wish u can start a project where you make a painting from united ideas... Collaborating idea from minds like this but from scratch... From designing but its you who deciding to arrange the "symphony"... All elements unite to be one masterpiece...It must be cool then.
