My Story

I get this question all the time...
"How did you come up with Body Groove?"
Well, to be honest... it was kind of by accident.
You see, as many of you know, I suffered for nearly two decades with an eating disorder...
And it was the in journey to overcoming this eating disorder that led to the "accidental" creation of Body Groove.
I'd love for you to hear this story because it's so applicable to struggles that we as women have.

I was 61 years old before I recognized that I had an eating disorder. This happened after I had gastric bypass surgery and started gaining weight back at 6 months. I know that I have been lead to your program, and I can't wait to get started

I remember that movie and sadly, I was inspired by it as well. I've always had a poor body image, and now at 54, I'm just learning to love myself. Your story and program is my real inspiration and inspiration for all of us! Thank you so much.! 💞💗😊

Ty for being so transparent. I’m 55 and hate my body from the pandemic weight gain. I love grooving though. I was doing great with body image prior to the pandemic, but then I got off track. I have kept doing body groove because I knew I needed to keep moving in a way that I love. Thanks for letting us know that you “get it”. You know the struggles, therefore, you’re an inspiration. “I wasn’t born to hate my body”

Ah this is beautiful Misty, thank you for sharing your story. I have binge eating disorder and am in a constant battle with my self image. Everytime I do manage to get into a good routine it comes from a place of self love rather than self loathing. I love BG and dancing is the best way for me to workout and get in tune with my body and process my feelings/trauma. That voice is that last little spark of survival instinct that knows it wants to stay alive, it sometimes takes hitting rock bottom to listen 💖

I cried when I watched this video. And I cried when I saw the first groove session of you today, because I thought "I want to dance happily again, just like these women!" It's been many years since I did that, and that made me so very sad. So I decided to fight my mental illness with your groove, just from today on. And I simply did it. I tried. And after a few minutes I felt happiness rushing through me, and I got a glimpse of how it might feel when you feel yourself and love your body. Grooving with you will be part of my daily selfcare exercises now. Thank you so much. 🙏

Have been getting my Groove on with you for about 3-4 weeks. Love the feeling of moving how I want and not feeling frustrated that my 65 year old body isn’t going to do burpees - feel fewer aches and pains- the hard part is when you have to dig deep and get in touch with yourself - those meditative moments - I just cry - in a cathartic way. I have hated. Y body as long as I can remember - and now with menopause, changes that aren’t appreciated are happening, so I am trying to learn to accept those changes and eventually one day for the first time may actually love my body for what it is, and am enjoying the process.

I know how you feel. My body is in pain since I had the hysterectomy. The doctors have not been able to help or educate me about menopause, but I found Dr. Taylor (Barbie Menopause) on this channel. She is amazing the way she explains what we are going through, and along with Body Groove I have been learning to love and accept myself again. Thank you to both ladies for their wisdom.

It takes courage to be so vulnerable and open, and Misty, you have that to spare! Thank you for teaching me to love this goofy body that was able to defeat cancer:-) I am trying to lose some weight at the moment, but not so much for the aesthetics as for the future of my knees and back! I see my mother succumbing to constant, crippling knee pain, and I do not want my life to be diminished like hers has…I am always moving and grooving at work, telling anybody who will listen that you just have to love yourself and dance!

Your story made me want to cry. My mother had bulimia when she was in college. I didn't go down that path, but was able to super control my eating. Luckily I got to a point where when I lost below a certain weight, I couldn't eat and recognized I was in trouble and turned around. I used to do aerobics and I am super excited to try your program. Love you, you are beautiful.

Misty, your honesty is so incredibly inspiring! I have had a few friends recommend Body Groove to me but I thought it would not be for me...I had a horrible case of the "I cannot possibly do that". Burned out and injured from cardio workouts that were exhausting me and on the verge of quitting working out altogether after 40 years of dedication, Body Groove showed up again on KZread and I found a Boxing inspired 5 minute video and decided to try it. Just try it!! I was lost!! Not lost by crazy moves or joint destroying impact but lost in just MOVEMENT!!! 5 MINUTES that changed my mindset and attitude!!! 5 minutes!!!! Oh, thank you for Body Groove and your self love philosophy!!! I needed different, I needed THIS!!!!!

TY for sharing your story. I’m 60 yo and asthmatic. I’ve used my asthma as an excuse to step out of life especially as a younger me. I’m twice divorced with 5 kids ranging in age from 40-20. I’m almost an empty nester finally and rediscovering myself for the past 15 years. I found your videos a few years ago after I found Zumba. I love both. I’d like to incorporate both into my daily life but I haven’t done it yet and I’m starting to feel achy a lot. I need to do this ASAP. I’m certainly not getting any younger. Are any of your classes available in person? Anyway, I’m starting today. I love music, I can’t control the movement/motions, so I’ll do it alone for now. Thanks for sharing your gift as well.
