Stellate Ganglion Blocks have helped some people experience noticeable improvement from various long-term symptoms, including smell and taste distortion. For others, it does nothing. Stellate Ganglion Blocks are not new. They've been performed for close to 100 years, usually to manage pain caused by neurological injuries. CRNA's like David are collecting data before and after the blocks from all their patients with long term symptoms. Although my first round didn't work for me, I'm glad my results will be counted in their studies. If I can play just a small part in giving someone hope that some members of the medical field see us and are working diligently to gather information and come up with more treatment options for those living with this awful disorder, my own suffering will feel a little more meaningful. As always, please research any treatments to you try and consult with a doctor about your own individual case before making any decisions regarding what to try next.
UPDATE: My second round of SGB's was much more successful due to 9 months of professional trauma therapy (EMDR). You can read more about my experience with SGBs in this highlight on my Instagram: / 17992618039393434

I would like to thank you so much for sharing this video, Hannah. I have been suffering with Parosmia for well over 7-8 months, and I have lost 30lbs due to this issue. I had gotten covid around June of 2021, and just a few weeks after my recovery I lost my sense of taste and smell. One or two weeks later I regain my sense of taste and smell, I thought I was fully recovered; which I technically was. Then, just three weeks before school started the first semester, I was eating some fries and it tasted a little off and I was thinking to myself “Maybe the fries were overcooked?” Then I take a bite out of a hamburger, and it also tasted quite strange. I wake up the next morning to find out everything smells awful, along with my sense of taste. At first thought, I freaked out since I had no clue what was going on, I didn’t even bother to tell my parents about this until one week after developing this issue. We went to see multiple different doctors and they couldn’t detect what was causing me to have this distorted taste and smell problem. The first day of school, I couldn’t even last like an hour in the building as everything smelt like dead bodies even when I have a mask on, and the only hope I had was plugging up my nose. To add onto this, the stench was so bad to the point where I had received severe headaches and it made me want to vomit. This affected my schooling so much to the point where I was failing so many classes. Unfortunately there was no online schooling option within the district, so face to face learning was my only obligation. Do note, parosmia just kept on getting worse and worse as weeks went by; It limited more food items that I could actually enjoy to the point of December where I could only eat Salads and Ice Cream. By the end of January, my school councilor and the assistant principal wanted to make a meeting regarding my schooling and circular activities wondering why I was absent from school so much. My parents were threatened a court case due to my absences as they had no care in the world about my Parosmia problem. We then thought about doing homeschooling to break out of the school system while grasping the same education requirements. By this point, I couldn’t eat Salads anymore as that upset my stomach, only then I tried out mac&cheese which tastes perfectly fine (It all depends on the brand you buy though.) I’ve been trying to do so much research regarding Parosmia and I’m so glad I found this video because I believe there is still hope, I would do ANYTHING in the world to regain my normal senses of taste and smell back.

@@nikirivera08 Its been an entire year for me now, and I’m still dealing with this unfortunately. However, I did regain some of my senses back. Just yesterday, I fumbled upon a page regarding this issue and how she had been suffering for so long desperately looking for potential cures due to the lack of research coming from a large majority of doctors and scientists. Apparently there are these drops called “Liquid Gold” or something of that sort (Also known as Curcumin) and the only reason I had been digging some research about this is because I heard it had been helping a lot of people recover from Parosmia (Approximately 80% of their senses coming back.) and since Parosmia tends to be a neurological attribute, I bet a bit of Curcumin could help with the inflammatory issues going on in our brain. Knowing that our bodies can’t absorb curcumin in its native state all too well, I learned that Liquid Gold helps us absorb it by 277 times more. Just for safety measures before recommending anyone else, I’ll try it out myself and get back to you if it actually works because I know how much everyone is wanting to recover from this.

When I think about the children suffering from this and their parents who are desperate to help, I can't keep this info to myself. I know they have the best shot at recovering with the SGB, and I hope this video reaches every single one of them somehow. It has been very hard in the mind, on the heart and definitely on your digestive system, especially when you can only eat very few things like bread, crackers, cereal/ oatmeal, or other bland things. Thanks Chandler! As new as this procedure is to the Parosmia community, I couldn't keep the information about it to myself. I know that this has helped so many people. A homeopathic remedy called Sepia 30c (by Boiron) has helped others recently, as well. My body did not respond to either, but that doesn't mean they won't help other people. My heart is broken for this community of people who are suffering from Parosmia, bc I know how disgusting, exhausting and isolating it is - especially as a pregnant and postpartum mother. If what I share can lead even one person towards the solution that will work for them, it will all be worth it. :)

Oh man thank you for this video. So interesting. I am 3 months in. I feel like there are a lot of young women like us who are experiencing this as well… i had bad postpartum anxiety 2.5 years ago as well as just having a 2 year old, 10 month old and being pregnant again. I wonder if that past stress has been weighing on my nervous system. Man Having this during my morning sickness time was the worst experience of my life! So glad the morning sickness has subsided and now it’s just the parosmia. Currently sitting in the couch with a nose plug because I pushed through and made chili for my family and it smells terrible. But actually, around 3 weeks ago, after I was able to see my 3rd baby on the ultrasound for the first time, I had around like 4 hours of everything tasting and smelling 90% normal. I thought I was healed! But then that night all the bad smells came back and have been back since. That gave me so much hope though. How weird this is so tied to stress and our nervous system. So glad I found your channel. All the best to you

Hey Julia! So glad to have you here and so sorry for all you've been through. The way parosmia is affecting young women and mothers is just devastating, and hardly anyone is advocating for us. Mine started when I was pregnant for the first time in March 2021. I definitely think that people with compromised immune systems and in high stress situations are at a disadvantage with their healing. I'm pursing counseling and EMDR therapy to learn skills to better process stress to see if that helps with my healing at all. There are so many other potential ways of doing this, but I'm just taking them one at a time. Please keep me updated with your experience. I hope you see improvement so, so soon. :)

Thank you for showing this process. I live in England and unfortunately this procedure is only done privately so the cost is exorbitant and no guarantee to help my parosmia. I just wish my constant smell of mildew, even stronger with chocolate, coffee and perfumes, would go. Ì feel physically sick every minute of every day. Im 9 months in after a flu, a year after covid (which my ENT said laid the groundwork for my flu to destroy my smell and taste) and i am so depressed and despair. I'm so glad i found your channel because this is a lonely existence and, for some reason, not one that gets much sympathy from my colleagues, friends and family- just mild curiosity. They really don't get how limited yiur life becomes when it loses one of your senses- especially one so heavily linked to memory and mental well-being. What i wouldn't give to smell a pine tree or a rose or my dog😢

I had C* in sept 2021, lost taste and smell completely, and regained it to about 70% by November. Then just before thanksgiving i donated a kidney, so went through a major surgery. Then, one month later in late December the parosmia and dysgeusia hit me. It’s been rough trying to heal from surgery and deal with this. Very stressful. I am apprehensive to spend the money on this and it not work, and add to the stress! Since I’m only 3 months in i thought maybe i should just wait it out, but still on the fence of what to do. It’s been 10 months. I have tried many things to get my smell and taste back. I don’t know if I would say it’s better. Maybe just evolving. I did a 15 day water only fast which didn’t make any difference. I had blood work done after Covid that showed that my Glutathione and CoQ10 had tanked so I supplement with those. I am now trying 1 drop of vitamin A in each nostril daily. It’s only been three days. I will give it a couple of weeks. I also tried Benadryl nightly for 14 days with no improvement. I think the longer it goes on my coping skills have gotten better. I am getting better at ignoring a lot of the smells. I used to let them overwhelm me. There is still one smell that I call the “death” smell that’s a little harder to ignore. Praying for answers for all of us who are living the smell and taste nightmare. Thank you Hannah.

I'm so sorry. The first round (in this video) actually didn't work for me. (I thought it did a little, but I think I was just trying to be optimistic). I had this SGB a year after my parosmia started, and I hardly progressed. I started caring for my nervous system better and did trauma therapy (EMDR) for 11 months and went back for a second round, and I experienced much more progress. I did another year in therapy, tried the SGB again, and did not progress much. My body was under a serious amount of stress as I had just given birth for the first time, had gone without sleeping through the night for 9 months, and nursed my son for 11 months while starving. I completely understand the frustration. It's been over 3 years since my parosmia started, and I'm in a much better place, but still not fully recovered. It has been the hardest physical journey of my life, and recovery has taken serious work. My encouragement would be to focus on reducing stress wherever possible and doing things in life that bring you joy outside of the senses of taste and smell. It's so, so difficult, but recovering the senses is possible.

My head always feels congested even though there is no congestion. It always feels like my nose is stuffy and hard to breathe. I also have an issue where it feels like I am not getting enough oxygen at times. I take deep breaths that do not seem to take in oxygen. This is completely separate from the stuffy nose feeling. I would think the procedure would be worth it if I could breathe easily through my nose again.

I think directly after the procedure, there's a rush of blood to the numbed area, and that may have been what I was feeling at the time. I have a sense of smell and a sense of taste, but most things smell and taste like literal garbage or sewer. It has been very difficult, even though it is only been a couple of months for me so far. This video and others I have watched got me wondering whether or not my nerve block and surgery had anything to do with it or if it is all just from covid, which I'm not sure I even had before my surgery. EMDR and SGB's are helping me recover. I had a lot more going on with my health than I realized, and it's been a slower process than I ever would have wished, but I'm so thankful to have realized the connection between PTSD/fight or flight and all my health issues. SGB's save lives!

I am on this same page. I've also had 3 surgeries. I was very sick and lost my nose when I got pregnant. Ask your doctor to check your thyroid antibodies. I truly believe that I was fighting thyroid issues when I was pregnant and because of the hashimotos it attacked really good tissue - which was my nose! I am looking into this same procedure but I'm almost positive you could have hashimotos- that affected your nose! Antibody testing!

Hi Hannah, sorry your bilateral SGB didn't work out in Texas. Any improvement in taste/smell since then, a year ago? Was your euphoric response to tasting chocolate in this video real, or just a temporary placebo effect? I lost all sense of smell and taste during severe Covid xmas 2020.. 2.5 years now. Peppermint taste returned after about a year, and the taste of burned fat in the grill pan some months later. But the important tastes like meat and chocolate never did. This week I tried a chiro trick with getting the back of your head tapped/flicked while touching your tongue or nose, other hand on the heart. Seemed to work for citrus smell and taste of chocolate (yay!) After such a long loss of taste it's really worrying whether I'll remember how things tasted. Had that experience with ginger. Hot spicy food: just get the burn, no taste.. 😢 If you don't have full taste/smell back I think they will return anyway, just really slowly. All the best, Jon.

Hey Jon, it didn't work the first time, but if you check out my updates over on my Instagram you'll see that I had more SGB's at the end of this January and I experienced much more improvement after almost a year of EMDR. I am getting two more injections next Friday, and I am very hopeful they're going to get me all the way back to 100%. David gave me a piece of Dove milk chocolate in this video, and it turns out that it is much more friendly to most people with parosmia than a lot of other chocolates. I didn't know that at the time, and I was simply excited to taste some chocolate that didn't give off the scent and flavor of burnt hair. I am very honest, and I would never lie about my experiences. It just so happened that that was the only type of chocolate that worked for my senses at the time. I also got Covid Christmas 2020. Lost my senses for 2 months. Had a baby 2 months after that, and have been living in parosmia hell since March 2021. So grateful to report that EMDR and SGB's have been my ticket out after realizing that what has been weighing down my mind and altering my perception all this time has been PTSD and unprocessed trauma.

I really don’t know if different health centers do it any differently because i seemed to see you that your procedure took a bit longer than mines. Hi. I also have parosmia post COVID. It’s been about 8 months. I too have been under a tonne of stress the last few years. Maybe that has contributed to this. I just don’t know. I can taste and smell things, but the tastes and smells are almost entirely incorrect. Like I know what Coffee is supposed to smell like. And I know what bathrooms are supposed to smell like. For me, these two smells are exactly the same. And their neither coffee or a bathroom smells, but instead something entirely different and strange, more like dust and dirt and spice. It is really frustrating and so what I choose to do it's pretty much just ignore it. I find it so much more difficult to spend time thinking about this. I really hope the best for everybody out their suffering with this. Hopefully overtime research will yield help.❤

My case with this is strange. before ever getting covid, I had parosmia for 4 months. Everything had the same taste mould, wet dirt, dust, it was like everything was out for 60 years. Of course, now I do have covid and instead of being treated to the delight of tasting nothing, now everything tastes even worse, like germ-x, and garbage. Even water. I hope this is something viable.

I had 3 on the right and 1 on the left on this day. I’ve since had two more rounds of SGB’s that were far more successful for my senses and nervous system. The next round, I did 2 injections on the right and got more of my senses back. The next round, I had 2 on my right and 2 on my left and experienced a ton of emotional release. I’ve learned since January that the reason my parosmia has been so severe and my healing process has taken so long is because I have had PTSD since childhood. I needed healing from so much more than Covid and had no idea. I’m getting more injections next month and hope to make a video by the end of the year recapping what I’ve experienced with my mental and physical health since discovering all this back in January/February.

The CRNA I saw has also done this tens of thousands of times and also has military experience, so I don't understand why he and some of his colleagues feel comfortable with it and others do not. I'm extremely risk-averse and would never do anything I thought was unsafe or encourage anyone else to put themselves in harm's way. I'm sorry if my video comes across that way.

I guess it contains active substances that boost immune functions, reduce inflamation and have hormonal, antiviral effects. I've been taking 400mg echinacea sumplements every day/also drinking echinacea tea for the past 2 weeks now and I can taste certain things. Hope this helps you and others.
