My Starfield Wish List

Dear Bethesda,
The Starfield Ship Building Community is a devoted one. We lovingly continue to create ships, discuss the best components, and critique each others’ builds. However, we could use some additional depth in specific areas...

A system by which you could warehouse parts salvaged from captured ships to use in from-scratch builds would be outstanding.

This is a good idea. Perhaps you'd have to land the captured ship at your outpost, and then all it would take is a "disassemble" option to put all the parts in permanent inventory as pieces that don't cost any money. You might also have to build some large storage containers to extend this capacity. - Having an outpost "chop-shop" wouldn't be hard to achieve! If you do that, though, you can't sell the parts unless you registered the ship first. You'd just have to discard the parts you don't use. That seems like a fair compromise.

Yes, to all your suggestions, and what I personally would add is: All ship parts to the outpost ship builder. I find that the system we have now, blocks my creativity. The way I think it could work, is that the parts would be more expensive in your outpost, because manufacturers have to ship it to you. We could use cargo links to set those shipments, since a lot of spaceports have cargo links too

In my case i wouldn't benefit from this so much. I decide on the type of ship i want to build, i decide which manufacturer to go with, & i go build it at the manufacturers pad. This has caused me to build ships with unique characters, very different to each other in capabilities & more importantly, style. If i had all parts at my outpost (there is already a mod for that btw) i might end up with vanguard weapons & optimal engines on every ship i build. Yawn. I can see why Bethesda did what they did there.

I'd like to see a skill set for this perk. It would be cool to be a vendor for a specific brand. You could assign quests for each ship manufacturer that you would have to complete to earn a franchise membership to sell the parts.

Alternatively, I think you should be able to get all parts at your outpost ship builder, but you have to pay a one-time licensing fee for each manufacturer.

Focusing on ship-related stuff, I would add the following: - Proper crew assignments, so directly assigned crew are actually seated at their post. Assigning anyone to the "gunner" position should vastly improve the performance of ship turrets. - Make it so crew with piloting skill can actually pilot YOUR ship - you mentioned having their own ships, which would be awesome too. Jumping as a group. Landing as a group… but at the very least, I should be able to CALL MY SHIP from wherever I am, for a pick-up, with the bloody pilot on board, landing somewhere near to me. - A setting that allows you to toggle "no kids on my bridge!" - Cora's 3 lines on heavy repeat make Sam an outpost assignment for me. - An electric motorcycle in the style of the Tom Cruise movie Oblivion, attached to a wall bracket in the landing bay. There's plenty of space there. Make it comically useless to ride in low G. Make sure your companion rides on the back. Make it so your companion can fire weapons while you ride. Make sure it runs out of power, but can consume 3KV laser cartridges, and if you don't have any… you have to leave the bike behind on a planet, where you may or may not be able to find it again. A new one should cost 20,000 credits, or somesuch. I have more, but this comment is long enough for now :)

All great ideas here. I got a few I would like to see as well. 1. having the ability to get all available ship parts at your outpost. They can cost more and/or be level locked like other parts. Or going further, the ability to build an outpost “trader’s post” that could have a ship builder company rep there to enable these parts for some kind of high credit cost and/or resource cost. It would also make your outpost more “lived in” with other types of people there imo. 2. the ability for your ship to protect itself when you are not at the helm. I find it especially odd that if you have turrets on your ship and you leave the pilot seat, your ship just stops and does nothing, even if you get attacked. Your turrets should still function at least while you run back to your seat (or not). 3. My most immersive ship experience was trying to take a ship on a planet and some how boarded it at the exact moment it lifted off (i.e. typically when you kill it’s landing party, the ship will fly off). I appeared in the ship (not just in the landing bay, as you will glitch and fall out to the planet surface when that happens). But yea, I was running around the ship during the time it takes to display the normal take off animation and I could see outside through a window that the ship was gaining altitude to leave the planet, then a short loading screen (faded to black), and then I was in space in the ship. It was a spacer ship and there were already UC ships in orbit attacking other spacer ships for some reason. Looking out one of the windows while this was happening was very cool, seeing the battle rage and the ship maneuver around/firing as I was basically just an unwelcomed passenger at the point. Then the ship I was on started taking damage from the UC ships and all the normal radio comms you typically hear in battle were happening, and then I heard that the shields were out (assuming it was on the ship I was on) and my screen started shaking with every hit (you can hear it hitting the hull too) and smoke/sparks were flying around in the ship I was in. That made me realize that I was going to die if this ship gets blown up, so I bee-lined it to the bridge and had to take out spacers on the way with all that happening. All that def made it fun and exciting. When I got the cockpit there was an actual spacer in the seat “flying” ship. I took him out and took over the ship, which made the UC stop attacking (luckily as the hull was already in the red) since I was friendly with them. I then landed back on the planet when the battle was done and just sat thinking how the heck did that just happen lol. It was probably only a couple minutes of action, but that was super fun, and I never had anything happen like that since. I have been playing over 1500 hours at this point. Basically, this all goes back to my point 2, that your ship should still function even if you are not in the pilot seat, especially if you have crew that has piloting skills. Clearly the game can handle that, but it isn’t something that you can just make happen if you wanted too. 4. get rid of the dang module limit on ships! It stifles creativity. I am guessing they had in place to keep your game from getting bogged down trying to render a lot of parts at some point. But hear me out, if you have a higher spec gaming rig/console, make the module limit dynamic based off that. Basically, to still keep the balance between stable game play and ship building creativity. 5. allow any kind of weapon mix in the 3-weapon group limit. Every weapon has an energy cost anyways, and all the reactors energy outputs have hard limits, so I don’t think this would upset the game balance much. 6. allow you to control turrets. This could be done by sitting in the designated “gunner” seat of your cockpit and/or battle stations, and your ship will be flown around by one of your crew. This would be a fun option to break up the typical way you do ship battles. It could be level/skill locked for game balance. 7. functional habs with the right crew. I have seen there is a hirable crew member with a med skill and it has been said that would be perfect to make the infirmary hab more useful. When assigned to the ship, they could be just like any other medical vendor in the game, and would sell limited med supplies and/or heal you for a higher cost. 8. to make the ship usage more immersive, just have usable habs with the right crew. I hate that your crew just wanders the ship, or is chowing down on spaghetti, even in the middle of battle. I love for everyone to have their place in their relevant hab and provide some kind of immersion benefit (beyond a skill boost) and stay in that hab working. All you other crew with piloting/weapon skills, should take their seat in the cockpit/battle station when you do. It would make for cool pics and just add to the immersion that your crew is ready for business when you get into a fight. 9. lastly, fix the space flight dynamic of hitting a small (less massive) thing in space and that just stopping your ship. I am guessing this is a limitation of the game engine. But hitting something small with your big ship shouldn’t just make your ship stop. It breaks immersion. You do take some damage when that happens, but the “physics” don’t make sense when that happens (yes, I know there are other physic liberties being taken for the sake of game play). Going further, by adjusting that physics aspect of space flight, you can open the idea of having “ramming” type of ships that are just built to ram other ships for physical damage.

  • @Kragnar1

The ability to control the insides of the ship is what I want most right now (with stairs). For instance I like my captains quarters to have a door, and be separated from the rest of the ship, so no one has to walk through it to get anywhere. That way, if I invite a lady back to my ship, I won’t be disturbed. You can do this, but right now it’s trial and error. Move the cabin, go inside, whoops, no door, go out to outfitter, fix, go inside to make sure whatever you did is ok. It’s frustrating. And more. Just more. More shield choices. More weapon choices (like make some shields better against certain weapons, meaning you can just spam particle weapons but have to take something else in case their shield is the variant that is good against it). And yeah, upping ship size (capital ships). I just rebuilt another ship, and it looks good but I’m maxed out on size, can’t get the parts I want at the front, have to compromise. It’s not even a hab or close to the ground or anything, so at no point would it hit something wherever I land.

I would make key enhancements to the ship building routine immediately. First, I want the ability to rotate any part by 90 degrees, so annoying that some are limited to NS only. Second, I want the ability to dictate which portals will be doors or ladders, and which will be disabled, rather than glitching windows in place. Third, why can't I paint the Taiyo 2X3 sloped structural piece?

On the "additional weapon types" point: Did you know that one of the ballistic cannons is actually a SHOTGUN? Some developer took the time to program it in and implement it, but it isn't ever used because it's so under-statted. I doubt most players even know you can get a shotgun for your ship. It's existence is indicative that at least one developer at BGS was interested in creating more varied ship combat styles, but it just never went anywhere. I really have to wonder what the development environment there is like.

    1. Part salvaging: instead of deleting a part from a ship, and getting back a fraction of what it's worth, you could salvage parts from ships to be used on another ship. Personally, I love the Claymore, especially the mk III, but I would like to replace the 38 power reactor with a 40, saving the original reactor to be used on another ship. 2. Cargo Halls provide a buff to your Payloads skill, rather than directly adding to cargo capacity. It would vary depending on the size of the Cargo Hall, since there's 2x2, 2x3/3x2, and 3x3. 3. Engineering Bays would provide a buff to your Starship Engineering skill.

Maybe C-class ships or ships over a certain size could carry a little one-seat fighter. Maybe even with it's own hab. Then when you're attacked, you'd have to get up and run through the ship to that hab and launch. That last bit, IMO, would add some real excitement, since your ship would still be under attack while you are running through it.

That's a great start, I'd like to space walk, go get some fresh air every now and then. To that end we need real airlocks. Feels like I'm decompressing the whole ship every time I go outside. Fix gravity unless under power we should experience weightless. I know they can do this. Best ship boarding I've had where weightless. I'd like to repeal boarders too! Why don't they ever try to take my ship? I know this list is more game play than ship builder but why not ask for all of it.

I think those are all great suggestions. Another thing I’d like to see is just a better way to sell items Making resource farms is a grind in itself - but only being able to sell so much at a time before sitting for 48 hours is a grind in itself. It shouldn’t take 20 real time minutes to sell $100,000 worth of stuff (if you’re at the Den - I know the Key is much quicker but requires you to be able to access it) As far as ship building goes - I think you nailed it. Only thing I’d add is: I’d love to be able to decorate my ship (weapons on racks, things like that) and have them stay there between ship changes. I honestly wouldn’t mind if that meant they didn’t transfer over to the next ship. Maybe you’ve got different weapons per ship. But it would be neat to have that be a thing. That way those areas are actually more utilized by folks who have more than one ship, and switch between them often. Like a cargo ship and a fighter. As for outposts, I’d love to be able to make a chest that has unlimited storage just like at the lodge. I’ve got a “home” on a planet that I’ve built, and it would be nice to be able to offload my ship’s storage of resources there so I can more frequently fly my lighter capacity ships.

Neon is pretty circuit for creds, Trade Authority, Gunstore, Mineral shop, General Store, Nick-Nack shop, And good for resupply on resources minerals and Ammo. Den's and Key are ideal if you're flogging "spicy hot" loot. As both have trade authorities and nearby ship vendors. New Atlantis is also a stop, But its a pain as the vendors are so spread out, I prefer to do them last on my runs because of travel involved, Gunstore in residential area and UC Distribution in Embassy district, And "the well" elevator near the Viewpoint bar. Aquila city, you have to "know" where the vendors are because its hard to spot them if you don't know beforehand vendors locations, Including a trade authority behind the bank, But its a decent loop. Basically, Anywhere with a trade authority is good for credit flogging.

I'd like to have a system which links things together, like you can use your outposts to help build a colony, which can include a large warehouse type facility to conglomerate your outposts' resources, which you can then use to construct a space station, which you can, alongside customisation and defending from pirates and spacers and the like, use to construct the largest classes of ship, which you can use to have fleet battles and the like.

Easy stuff to start, simple one by one habs that have beds. 1 crew fighter ship builds, more hab choices and structural pieces. And the biggest thing, at least double the size of ship storage, or let ship pads at outposts actually have ship storage. I mean the ship stays in the outpost ship pad anyway, it would be nice if you didn't have to sell it, and could just store it. Ship decals would be cool also, skull and cross bones for pirate ships, something for constellation and Freestar and UC ships for role playing.

I think it would be especially cool if when you completed a faction quest, you could install their mission board kiosk on your ship or outpost. Nobody is going to go all the way back to Ryujin and sit through fifty loading screens to pick up a pointless radiant quest. But maybe I would actually engage with that system if I could unlock and access the mission board in my control room.

Great ideas! I made a similar video and my #1 request was to be able to build a Staryard of my own. This would function similar to an outpost, but orbiting a planet. Fly in, open the planet scanner, and you would have an option to drop a beacon. From there you can start building your staryard. At first you would just have some basic Nova parts, but you would go on missions for Stroud, Deimos, or Taiyo. Each campaign (I'm thinking the length of say the vanguard questlines) would unlock that manufacturer's parts at your shipyard. And just like your outpost, the staryard would get raided randomly. You would have the ability to set ships, that are not your home ship , to defend it. This would give us more reason to build a feet of ships, and different types as well.

Honestly, at this moment, I've been waiting for the DLC to go back playing it a lot as I did untill two months ago, now I only play once a week. The reason being lack of what to do in the game, specially in ships. I did build so many ships so far and I'm quite sad I could not save their designs going to NG+, somehow Onedrive vanished with most of my screen shots to save my old desings, so that was a big hit to me, so a blueprint saver or a way to share blueprints would be a Very nice adition, though I have a feeling this could come when Creations come to Startfield later this year. The other point would be as you said, more ship parts and giving them and the crew more utility. It's a bit silly that we can have up to 10 ships but no way to see them toghether (appart from the Red Mile bug) and no way to send the crew to do stuff with it. I do like cargo ships so I have plenty of them in all my saves, so I would Love to send my crew to do hawling and bring credits, while ading a dificulty level for each hawl according to the system it is and the chance of it being intercepted by pirates or something, maybe triggering a emergency call which we go to help or just hope for UC or the Rangers to intercept the bandits, maybe even calling the Ecliptic if the cargo is not legal. So indeed, there's a lot of potential on this game and I do hope to see it reach the next level, but I just hope it would not take way too long. I feel like if the DLC is not that great, it might just backlash again. Although Bethesda did said they have 5 years ahead in development an at least 10 years of DLC and improvements, if the DLC is not great, this could change their plans.... I still want to be cheerful for the game since I love it a lot, but without new content, I kinda put it on a hold for now. Well, this is only about the ship part, there's a lot more I want like more companions, more romance options, more utility for outpots, new homes and weapons, etc. In short, more content...

Also, not a shipped based request, but I wish we either had much more clothing options or even if they simply gave us the ability to change the colors of the clothes we already have to your own liking, almost like the way you can in ship builder. Great Video. I have learned to love the ship builder but having to go to different ship manufacturers for special parts is really annoying. For the ship part, my wish list : -Ship ownership limits raised to more than 10 (20 maybe) -Saving ship designs -Uploading ship designs to other players or the world in general. -The ability to customize ship interior. -The ability to make space stations. -The ability to gut a ship of all of its parts and store them somewhere. -Being able to sell the whole ship with its content without having to go one item at a time. Finally for wished features not related to ships, my list would be be too long so i will keep it short : The ability to build a manufacturing facility that can make, ammo, guns, armors, ship parts, ship repair parts. Ammo manufacturing will allow a Heavy Gun playthrough to be viable. I wanna see those things moving on a conveyor belt. I wanna have the ability to upgrade the tier of a weapon so if i find a good legendary, i can keep it. Either that or the ability to remove legendary effects and re-apply them to other weapons/armors. Still wondering when shattered space will be released. As a Bethesda fanboy, i just watched the Fallout Show and i loved it. Have a nice day.

Weapons like turret missile launchers with auto guidence to targets etc. And in ship builder you shoud be able to set the ship size limit yourself but use class of ship at will etc. Whoud like to build M class with normal parts also...but without mods use - etc. (I have some free ships desings made for all) Etc. Game needs more thinkfullnes to be legendery 😊

I think all your suggestions were great. I would like to see the same level of artistic expression given to the outpost and home systems as well. Or give mod developers the power to do the things they’ve demonstrated in Skyrim and fallout 4. There is so much potential in these ideas they’ve started but it seems wildly incomplete and lacking functionality. To be able to sit in your ship, outpost hab, or home and make and drink coffee, eat something, reference computer screens that give you real info have tv’s and radios that play actual shows/songs (Bethesda has demonstrated in the past that they can do it). Right now everything seems so dead. Also for the love of baby starships, the ability to stack Habs for multi-level/story building in outposts. I better stop before I write an essay.

That’s interesting. Thinking through that just a little bit, it would certainly be restrictive, yet also perhaps not change too much about the types of ships we would build from a min/max performance perspective (lightweight fighter, all-arounder, heavy cargo hauler). Although, C Class reactors providing the most reactor power is a big advantage. Shield Regen Rate not being very significant in gameplay terms also is a disadvantage for Class A shields…very interesting thought exercise :)

Maybe do legendary ship parts after so many NG+. For crafting do a grinder that can "recycle" gear into materials. Then do something like "learn the schematic for anything you recycle". This way after you level up a bit you can "make" a new weapon the same level you are. This keeps grinding low.

I wrote down a pretty extensive suggestion list based on a "hardcore survival mode" that would be independant of the game's difficulty. My suggestion list touches many aspects of the game, including ships, that focuses on "hard sci-fi" details. Some are already adressed with mods, some might not be feasible with the current game engine or require extensive work, but I enjoyed Starfield and would like the game to realise the potential it has without needing 250 mods. If anyone who has more weight than a random guy like me would like to communicate with Bethesda to send my suggestion list, I'd really appreciate it.

Sadly, for me the Shipbuilding aspect is more about customizing one ship to suite my needs of speed, range, cargo capacity. It is better than base building (never did hat in NG+2). Like you said, if the Ship building would take a better spot in Starfield, all it might be different.

Idk if it’s just my game that does this but I really like setting up my armory with guns on the wall and cases, boost packs, helmets, space suits all set up on the displays looking nice but every time I switch ships it all gets sent to the cargo of whatever ship I’m on……. It would be nice if the stuff you put out on display would not transfer with you every time you switch ships. Please

They need to fix ng+. The reason I say, that is currently I believe it’s broken like seriously what new game plus doesn’t let you keep your money your weapons and your suits oh and also your ships, which a lot of people have dumped hundreds of hours into building only to get them and everything else torn away from you at the very end which is just plain stupid.

DOORS!!! Omg, why can't we place doors and hatches/ladders where we want them? I want my ships to have a logical layout without having to go through the mess hall, brig, and armory to get from the landing bay to the bridge.

  • @skyriminspace

You can learn how to connect habs to force doors & ladders to be in logical places. You need to learn some basic rules the game follows, such as; it likes to stack ladders, it will only create one ladder between each pair of floors, it won't make loops without using cross passages. Learn what's inside each hab (space coconut on youtube has great hab interior tour videos to help), & then just think of it like a puzzle game.

@@skyriminspace This isn't completely predictable and fool-proof. I don't want "logical" places. I want places of my absolute choosing. It should be absolutely trivial, the way you can change outpost panels from the inside. - Go into ship modification mode from the inside, and then toggle panels from the interior view. The outpost coders need to talk to the ship building coders. You want only one door connected? You want 4 doors connected? Up to you.

@@skyriminspace Yes, I know, and I've gotten pretty good at exploiting all the tricks to the point where I know more than most KZread videos (Ship Technician being a notable exception). We still should be able to put doors and ladders anywhere we want. I want logical layouts and direct paths between cockpit and landing bay. I don't want the only path between crew quarters and the mess hall to be through the captain's quarters. We are forced to place habs in illogical locations, use useless cross corridors to force connections, leave useless dead space in ship interiors to force ladders, and otherwise make compromises in how we want the ship laid out. It's really annoying.

@@gregsquires6201 hey i am 100% in agreement that we should have control over placement, like the other commenter points out is possible with outpost modules. Should be straightforward for Bethesda to add to ship building & i'd be amazed if they don't! My point is you can make ships look good outside, & have sensible & unique layouts inside. It's just a question of working with, rather than against some of the daft rules.

Bethesda needs to add Scrapping to Starfield. The very first day I looted every darned thing I could from the Kreet Research Lab just to find out you won't get Adhesive from Vacuum Tape. I would also like to scrap ships for their parts but still need the required skill for exotics. A lot of good ideas in the video and comments. I would like Isolation to be fixed as you are forced a companion making that skill 100% useless. No crew is do-able but you cannot do The Old Neighborhood without Sarah for example. Nor her Romance quest line. I am so annoyed by Sarah's inane remarks that I RP Starfield as either a deaf person; 0 audio/subtitles only or when I have that headphone hat that covers my ears I RP as someone whose music is too loud to hear anything; Music 35%/Voice 5%/subtitles.

I loved starfield, but I do think its a missed opportunity. I'd love to see some pvp at the temples when you become starborn, starborn vs starborn pvp. id also love visiting other peoples planets/moons/bases (maybe able to raid them) - all as long as you can turn off the pvp.

We need more space travel. I don't care about landing on the planet to directly myself. That can be a cut scene. But I am disappointed that we can not fly from Earth to Mars as an example. And on our journey, there we can encounter pirates and other people to interact with.

  • @gregsquires6201

    @gregsquires6201

This would be hard because the distances between Earth and Mars are SO huge. If you made ships go fast enough to make travel take, say, an hour of real time, ship to ship combat would be ridiculous as ships are so fast they could get out of range in less than a second.

I want Hoverbikes (speeders) for on the planet and I wanna do spacewalks. I want to travel between planets and stars, maybe discover a nebula or a deep space black hole with a space station I would have to spacewalk to reach the only working entrance. I wanna be able to build and place settlements anywhere and I want me own space station(s), and my own cities. Lastly I want more POI and here's a few examples. Massive underground subterranean chasm like blackreach, perfect for procedural gen. Forrests of supermassive trees or mushrooms, I want to get truely lost on these planets I want to be able to have my own farm of alien creatures. Cloud cities like in star wars Lastly I want to be able to walk into the next tile of a planet. If I choose to walk around a planets equator don't tell me it would take too long, let me goddamn do it. That sentiment goes for traveling between planets.

Trident Luxury parts would be cool ? But really expansive like said in the lore of the game. And why not a Starborn unique part that could fit with regulare manufactor part ?! Exemple you sell to Stroud Eklund your Starborn ship and it's add one or more new unique part to your list. Different from Deimos or Nova Galactic. I would like that.

Like your videos, but this one… yeah. I mean where are you gonna use all these capital ships? In Serpentis? Game is broken like hell, including space combat. 95% of ships you encounter are just one scenario.. Teleport in the back starts shooting immediately. There are no scenarios of fast dog fights in asteroid fields ( asteroids gonna break after 3-4 hits ). So just make a big ship with enough hp to install max turrets (most powerful weapons with 100% accuracy) and that's it.

The only thing Bethesda need to do is fix the god damn bugs . Fed up with not being able to complete quests because certain ships or NCP's have disappeared. Any of the building mechanics are screwed and over complicated . it would have been better if they had left it out of the game altogether.
