I want to make a note that I am very grateful that I got my bag and camera lenses back. Has anyone had their gear stolen? Did you get it back?

so grateful you called this man the thief even tho your take on the story makes little to no economical sense in the POV of "the thief". Anyone who is really a thief just doesnt give it back, ANYTHING makes more sense than taking it back (if you cant sell it you destroy it, cus just the act alone of taking it back is SUPER risky if youre a thief). Selling it to a pawn shop, to other thiefs, to anyone who doesnt asks questions, black market, wait on the equipment for a year even makes more money. your take is AS DUMB AS IT GETS, yet you spew it so casually entitled and cluelessly - preach your "gratefulness" brother. The way you put things together on your mind says a lot about who you are.

Man! This is so similar however i haven’t got my gear back. Had all my camera gear stolen right after a shoot. Day 1 of 2. Managed to cover day 2 at last minute but yeah now waiting on insurance which has taken 2months. Trying to get work on to replace my gear but yeah it has been a tough pill to swallow as a new business 6months into full time

I almost signed up with PPA too but got timid hearing about what they call the ‘depreciation schedule’, which is the percentage that they pay out if you totally lose your stuff. It was low. Have you seen info about that?

well... 7:53 .... lol. Stoked for the van life stuff! We recently sold our rv but can't wait to get another one! I'm sure there are some similarities, but I bet it will be much easier to travel in a van.

I am glad you got your stuff back, would be sad if it was a genuine guy who found the bag and was just an awkward human being giving it back. But main goal is the stuff getting back to you and that's the main thing.

I doubt that. Guy probably realized that once he saw the business card that people would likely be looking out for the gear. Decided to give it back and take the finders fee instead of risk getting caught.

@@MKNYC_ let just think this thru for a min. if youre that guy, and sit on the equipment for a year or two or sell it to someone who is willing to buy stolen stuff. even if you sell it for 30% of the price you are still getting more than whatever finders fee you could get (certainly more than 50 dollars). it just doesnt make sense. even if you sit on the equipment for a couple years you still make more. dam you could still make money just smuggling it out of the country. anything makes more sense and more money.

I had a lens, lav mic and field recorder go missing after a wedding many years ago, went to the police, contacted insurance etc.. was just about to finalise replacements when I sat down one night and realised in the panic of leaving the church to get to the wedding venue, I put them in a tripod bag for speed ha.. was the last time I filmed weddings on my own.. embarrassing explaining that one to the police Chris

Hit up the Pacific Northwest. Oregon alone has a ton of great places to camp and see like the Redwoods, the South Coast, Crater lake, a bunch of other lakes, Mt. Hood, the other Cascade mountains, the Columbia Gorge, the north coast, Tillamook Cheese Factory, the desert, and a bunch of Waterfalls. And then you have Washington State which also has a ton of great spots too. Also, just curious where Lizzie is? Is she gonna be able to join the roadtrip too?

That is crazy that you got it back. Cool, but also crazy. I would have totally been worried about picking it up. PPA is cool, but 15k is not enough insurance. Maybe enough for 1 kit. I wish they had adjustable levels.

That’s absolutely wild lmfaoooo If you happen to come to Florida for some reason as nice as Miami is if you want something different and a bit more nature fueled I recommend going to Ginnie Springs in High Springs FL. Water is clear and amazing and I know you learned a bit of free diving so you might be able to explore the caves too. Would be sick! 🤙🏾

I bought a canon m50 and I got it at a great price and the guy game a free sd card before I formated the sd I checked and I realized it was stolen and had about 100 gb of family pictures. I found a picture of a business card and thats how I found the owner. I was glad he got it back but sad I didn’t have the camera anymore, but I knew if I didn’t return it was going to drive me crazy with guilt for years

So does that mean PPA insurance works in Canada?

I think that guy did the right thing no matter what, you may have to give him the benefit of the doubt, he can easily could sold your gear for a fraction of the value in the street, did you think about that ? By the description of the subject he is not in the same social economical condition as you, but here you go, you have your stuff, sketchy or not you have it back, the entire package . Kudos!
