Just listening to your video this evening and it is so helpful. I took my 4yr son to the doctor today for UTI symptoms. He is also complaining of constipation. He started both Miralax and Antibiotics this evening. Interrsting to learn that the 2 can happen together. He has an order for an ultrasound of his kidneys to rule out any other concerns, in 10 days.

Glad your son is doing great! Two things. I got when I was stationed in the Naval Station in San Diego what they called in 1973 NSU.. It was during the summer and the water was like drinking river water. Yuck! Actually yuck and ow, that hurts! Our base didn't have a place one could get bottled water. Remember, this was 1973. Went to the base doctor and gave me some antibiotics and told me to drink lots of water. It worked pretty fast. Thursday the 17th I had a cystoscopy performed. I probably reveued 3 videos on the procedure. Everything was the same as the videos except the insertion of the numbing gel. Urethras are exit only and mine resisted. Doctor described the procedure and let me see what he saw in real time. Turned the camera backwards once he got into the bladder. No bulging observed. He recommended the Resume procedure and was going to push me up on the schedule. As I'm on warfarin I have to stop the meds just in case. Oh yes, I've got a good sized prostate but not the largest he'd seen.

Thank you for this. I’m a nurse and my 4 yr boy is friable with no other symptoms for 4 days now. He has not said anything about pain during urinating. The most he has complained about is that his tummy hurts but that is not consistent and no diarrhea or vomiting. His temperature is staying above 100 even with Tylenol and Motrin around the clock will talk with his physician again today she mentioned at first appointment that UTI is a possibility. I plan to start MiraLAX today. Although his bowels have been regular, what you have mentioned in this video makes a whole lot of sense coupled with his tummy complaint, that could very well be the case; constipation. Thank you so much for sharing this intimate moment of your life to educate all of us.❤

Rena love your videos. Would love it if you could make a video on the connection between lower back problems and bladder issues. The nerves in the lower spine are directly connected to the functions of the bladder/penis. Many people have lower back issues and I suspect that root cause of bladder issues for many is their lower back issues.

Dr. Rena, on occasion, when I urinate there will be 2 individual streams coming out of my urethra instead of the normal single stream. It doesn't hurt, it just makes a mess. Over the years, most people tell me is than when a man produces 2 separate streams of urine, he's passing a kidney stone. Is this true and the reason for this condition? When I do produce 2 streams, I don't feel any pain or discomfort. Which leads me to my last question. When passing a kidney stone, does it hurt or can it happen without any pain? Thank you very much.

The fact that you're a surgeon doesn't matter. When it's your child you're inner mother kicks in and you forget about being a surgeon. It must have been horrible to see things from both sides. Glad he's better now. 😀

It's not something doctors expect, but something they should keep in the back of their mind is kidney stones. Kidney stones in children usually indicate Cystinuria and if that isn't diagnosed early, you can risk kidney damage. Not all kidney stones get passed and they can build up in the kidneys and cause pain and UTIs.

Hope all is well 🙏 Hoping there are no allergies to fruit : Papaya/pawpaw and mangos are really good to 'soften' things up without causing 'the runs' ... As effective as the next day ... Its also in my athletic nutrion books so I hope it has the same effect all round 😷👍

I had a UTI in my 20s. So, I'd mentioned it to a friend who was studying to be a doctor at the time; but, I never saw a doctor for this. My friend, though, told me to pound down the cranberry juice. So I did and that did the trick for me. The UTI went away completely in short order.

Dr. Malik. Did it seem a bit strange to you when you went to the ER and then had to talk to an ER doctor who most likely does not know nearly as much about urology as you do? I was just wondering how it goes when Doctors interact with other Doctors in this type of scenario. Please comment! Nice video by the way...nice that you openly shared a story about your son. Happy Holidays to You and your Family!!!!

I personally don't like to dictate my care. In my experience whenever you push a physician to do something that they don't do for other patients there ends up being some complication. In general my physician patients have been similar with me. They ask more evidence guided questions but overall respect my decision making.

UTI can come in a urologist's family as death keeps coming to humans in spite of the vast advancements in medical science 🧪 and the largest amount of money 💰 being consumed by health care industry in general.

I've had slight burning when urinating and ejaculating below the tip of my penis, for several years now. There has never been any type of discharge. STI testing revealed nothing, so my doctor sent me to a urologist. He then did a Cystoscopy and found nothing out of the ordinary. I told him it felt like my urethra was torn or inflamed, but he saw nothing. The burning sensation isn't as bad as it used to be, but it's still there and I haven't been able to find any answers as to what is causing it. But now that I think about it, years ago with my girlfriend at the time, she got a bit overzealous during a rub and tug, causing a slight discharge of blood in with my ejaculate and I felt a little sore later on. I wonder if my urethra did get torn causing the slight burning from the tear and now the scar tissue. But still odd that the urologist didn't see anything wrong.

Hi Rena I am 24 year old. It has been 8 months that I am having difficulty with urination. I did take medicines, did my blood test, ultraSound etc but nothing is working. I am very worried about as it is going to be a year to this infection. Issues are: - Frequent Urination (After every 20 min or half an hour) - Blood Clotting when I eat meat or some warm things like milk. - Digestion issues as well - Body is getting weak Please give some suggestions. Many thanks.

@@terrylenaz6845😂 I am also a circumcised male and have had a UTI (not recently). It can happen. And yep gemales get them a lot more often then we do. Good hygiene practices and healthy diet and exercise, adequate sleep and good overall health practices are key to reducing the risk. Their is no eliminating it.
