My solution to the no longer available Astro Nano Wrench

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Astro stopped making the wrench that went along with their Nano Sockets. I have a solution for that.

Nice video and workaround. I have that Astro wrench for the Nano sockets as well as the long ratchet for the same sockets. I didn't know that they had quit selling the wrench. That is too bad.

That's pretty cool, i just took a square socket rail , and put a screw through a washer into the 3/8 socket rail. (*edit- no bulk)

Yep. A lot of places that used to sell it, just change to "out of stock", instead of "no longer available". Makes it hard to determine if the tool is still made.

I got their new long 19 mm wrench and it's too long for general use. So searched and found an Alltrade double box end ratcheting Wrench 17mm and 22mm. It's a tad slimmer than the modern ratchet wrenches. I used a similiar adapter to your I had in my tool stash and it works great. For those super tight areas. You can also weld a socket holder from a socket rail onto a washer. It takes up less space that the adapters you demonstrated.

Nice. I looked for a 17X22 combo and could not find one. Glad you did. Good idea, on the welding the washer on.

Gearwrench makes a set of magnetized shallow adapters that will work perfectly in this application.

That is a very creative solution too The problem of that wrench! I actually wish I worked on cars more to use wrenches like you're using. I personally use them on impacts for quick jobs. I would say I'm using them improperly, only because I'm not really leaving the wrench capability. It's easier breaker bar, torque, or a gun. Hardly a wrench... Still with what I know now I'm going to probably have more life out of them. Thank you.

You are welcome. Glad you found it helpful. Yea, I am not going to use the wrenches for breaking anything with a high torque, either. But the do come in handy for some of those small fasteners, in tight places.

you can swap the head off the new wrench and repair your old version, but you have to buy the new one unfortunately to do so

They still just have the long 17mm ratchet for the 3/8" and no 22mm offering to drive the 1/2" People have been making their own retainer similar to yours but thinner using a plastic square drive from a socket rail, a screw & a washer.

Hey, what ever works for people. There are a lot of different solutions. Yea, I think it was a mistake to dump the wrench ratchet. Considering the number of views this video got, I am not much of a influencer, I think they may a mistake. I don't think people want to buy 2 or 3 tools, when you could have bought just one.

But with those adapters, you lose the low profile, and isn't that the whole point of the tool?

Yes. I bought Gearwrench's version of this one Amazon. It's the same height as using a 3/8 drove ratchet and low profile socket. Returned them. Wish the anvil didn't stick out the opposite side.

You are correct. Good eye. Just a HDPE track day. No roll cage, no nomex, no HANS and an open face helmet, etc. The gloves give a better grip on a leather steering wheel.
