My Small Businesses BEST SELLING ITEM! Two Toned Snack Bags!

Snack bags are the PERFECT project to feel accomplished in the sewing room. They require very little material, planning or time, and are an item that you’ll use daily. In my shop, they sell fast and are so loved by my customers. I hope you have so much fun making things!
***Lots of conflicting advice on the "right side" of PUL fabric. I suggest you contact your PUL source and ask for guidance. I've contacted mine, and here was the response (I use either side in our bags)
"The shiny side is tested for food safety. For testing the fabric has to hold different solvents at different temperatures for specific periods of time, so we had to select a side to be the inside and we selected the shiny side, as that is the waterproof film. The fabric side was not tested, but there are no chemicals added, so if the food touches the fabric side there is nothing that will leach off. We had concerns that the fabric would absorb moisture or stain, so we considered it to be the outside. For storage we would advise to use the shiny side only."

I use food safe PUL from Wazoodle and asked their support team about wrong and right side. Was told depends on use. When using the Food safe PUL, the shiny side is the food safe side and used against the food.

Thank you Beth! After your email I reached out to them as well. The food safe said is the shiny side, but the fabric side is also safe to use, just not tested for foods at various temperatures like the shiny side is (it might stain, too, with liquid foods). I really appreciate your help and advice! One day I'll get the ride side of PUL right in a video!

Awesome Tutorial, Jess! Thank you. I am thinking I will swap out insulbright for fusible fleece to make it usable to keep cold snacks in. I need to eat on a regular basis to keep my blood sugars from dropping (I'm hypoglycemic) and I like to have string cheese or Greek yogurt cups on hand for my snacks. 😊 While it wouldn't keep the items cold for hours on end, it would keep them cool for an afternoon trip out to the park or for errands.

Thanks for this tutorial… I made a bunch in my own design snack bags for my family with Wazoodle PUL… we all absolutely love them. And no more single use plastic zippy bags. Wazoodle company is in the town I grew up in… it’s MADE IN USA Bensalem, PA!!! PUL tip- use a roller presser foot, or a teflon foot to prevent slipping… also, Janome blue tip sewing machine needle is amazing for sewing this… my Schmetz needles were sticking before a local shop owner suggested it… and I don’t have a Janome- works with any standard machine.

Hi, I am new to embroidering. After watching you several times I have decided to make a bag. It was intimidating at first but your description was so easy to watch and understand. I do have a question. Who helped you get your website up and running? TY

Hi Jess. And many of your tutorials you talked about your waterproof canvas. Where do you purchase your waterproof canvas? You have such cute prints and nice colors and anything I have seen online it just looks like industrial strength like for boats and stuff like that. I've looked at a few of your tutorial links and I've not seen it listed in there. Thank you very much. If you don't mind me asking what do you sell your snack bags for? I'm thinking of making some of these to try and sell at craft fairs or just online. If you're not comfortable giving that information I totally understand.

I have found that it is easier to sew with the PUL on the bottom.

I love love your videos. I use your sewing projects nearly exclusively so I can access your videos. They are the best .Thank you. I have made several of these snack bags and I love them. However, I was uncertain about the PUL fabric. In this video, you instruct to use the fabric-like side as front which means it lies next to the food. I have watched and re-watched and hope I am correct in interpreting your instruction. Since I was confused, I contacted Wazoodle about the PUL fabric and they were very clear that the 'shiny' side should be next to the food. Please let me know where I have confused this issue. Thanks!!!

How does your vinyl hold up in the wash? Anything I don’t have to wash by hand is top notch for me 😅

Chips and dry snacks would probably be OK for awhile, longer in Denver than in Jacksonville. Peanut butter and jelly would be OK but not stuff that is wet or needs to be kept cold.

A Teflon sewing foot, mine looks like white plastic, works well with vinyl. Should would work with PUL fabric also.

You should probably air dry, but we do stick them in the dryer as well. Just not on a really hot setting.

I have made these out of fat quarters and pul fabric I just throw them in the wash on delicate and then in the dryer on low or delicate they come out fine but I'm not sure with the vinyl but the quote and the pul, perfectly

It's actually good to throw PUL fabric in the dryer. It actually helps bring it back to life (tightens up the stretch, etc). It was a trick I learned from someone. I'm not sure about the vinyl though.
