My Skincare Routine at 68 - Habits I Had To Change *

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Let's get our skin in shape once and for all without spending a lot of money! Habits that you will stop and start that may get you the skin of your dreams. What really works? What changes after 65? For me my skin changed dramatically and I knew I had to change my habits right away. My diet of sugar and eating meat every day had to stop. Lack of Collagen production became a huge concern and cell turnover....but my doctor told me to stop all retinol/Retin-A
products...so I had to find another way to have my skin look bright and less wrinkled...and I did!
I also share my personal struggle of the last 2 weeks. I got a bit of blowback for answering a question about sex a few weeks ago and the comment was "A woman your age shouldn't even think about anything like that....that is stricken from our lives now...we are classy old ladies, so act like it." NO! I won't! This was the most wonderful comment I could have received...it made me realize how much I had been missing the real me... me with a bit of sass and edge. And I had lost that...so I need to tell you some things I have kept bottled up..and then I want to hear from all of you here...what habits have you stopped or started?
My love to you always and always,
Susan & Desi
I pray for justice and peace in this world...
Let me know what's on your mind tonight!
Thank you, everybody, for wishing Desi a Happy 10th Birthday!!!! he has a party and wagon rides!
And don't be afraid I gave Desi chocolate! All cupcakes are made with dog-friendly ingredients. Chocolate is highly toxic to all dogs.
“I am a strong and powerful woman.
I am proud to be a woman and I celebrate the qualities that I have as a woman.
I am not defined by other people’s opinions of who I should be or what I should do as a woman. I determine that not anyone else. And that is everything."

Susan, we're you at my daughter's house this wek?? Ha, Ha! The conversation we had was so like what you were describing about the world seeing us "grandmothers" in a certain way or how they perceive we should be. I love my grandchildren beyond words but, I am not only "Grandma"! My daughter prints on tee shirts, sweatshirts etc. She says" Do you want a sweatshirt? Yes of course! So she says what do you want on it? I wanted my name , my name the world calls me on the pocket area. She says Why would you want that? The kids other Grandmother has me put something about being a Nana on everything she orders. I looked at her like who are u and Saud Darling I love being Gammy but Gammy is not my whole identity! I'm still Ballery !! Just because you become a grandmother or have been for 18 years doesn't mean you stopped being a woman. Yes I want the world to know I'm a grandmother but I also want the world to know I'm a woman with a full other identity also! Okay that's my grandmother rant for today ! Oh yea, and my name is Ballery !😂

This was very deep and very wise...we are so many things to so many people...not just " one" thing! We have to be the girl we always were...that sort of hit me this week. I LOVE being Grandma!! But I am not the little old lady on TV screaming about my Medicare....and I could see where we have to be careful to strike a true balance between the woman we are,..the woman we were and the woman we still strive to be! No titles...just living large and free!!! Love to you! Susan & Dez

Susan, listen and listen good. You are a beautiful woman with smooth skin who I could not possibly age if I didn't know your age, but it would definitely not be over 65. Secondly, you are one of the too few who have made your mark on the world. You have brought comfort to thousands of people with your channel and love into the lives of your family and friends (including Desi). Please don't despair about getting older (even though I do). Everyone is lucky to have you. You are a pleasure to have around and a pleasure to look at. My friend is so jealous of your hair and I love your beautiful face, dress sense and honesty. You are a poetic soul with magic running through your veins. I wish you nothing but love and happiness going forward xx

I think the problem is some people see us as the Grandma who was young in the thirties, forties or even before that. They don't see us as someone who wore mini skirts, someone who protested the Vietnam war, who loved heavy metal music while enjoying the Everley Brothers, or conquered space travel, etc. We were at our prime in the sixties, seventies, or eighties. *👴👵The people they see in us were our grandparents, not us.*

Every time I see an old man/woman I think they they were young people once and I'm gonna talk to them like they still are, just because they are 80/90yrs doesn't mean we have to talk to them in a way that they are no longer needed in this world and that they are done for and no use to society anymore, I treat them like they are still here and deserve to be spoken to in a way they are still wanted/ needed for as long as possible with respect, my friend is 92 and feels lonely and that doctors think she isn't worth bothering about because OF HER AGE,it's so sad I visit her often to cheer her up and take her a treat, happy birthday Desi you look wonderful for 10yrs old have you been using your mama's face oils/ creams 😂❤ hugs Elaine u.k.

I just turned70 and I am experiencing identity crisis. I have lost so many things in the past few years. My health has declined from autoimmune disease, I sold my house and moved closer to my daughter because of my disability. My boyfriend died last March and my best friend did too same month. 😢 It's too much change and loss. I feel so utterly defeated and lost. Why does life have to be so hard. Maybe in time I will adjust but seeing our world in so much chaos scares me. It's hard to get old and see life change!! Thanks to u and Desi for being there❤

I had no interest marrying young. Well very young, I was 37 when I did after I lived with my boyfriend of 7 yrs to become my husband. I try to dance to these songs, I do ok but can't do certain steps like squatting way down or last thru the song. Get tired and winded quicker.

Go Susan!!! I agree with you so much! Just because we turn 70 or 70 plus doesn't mean we are going to wither up and become a shadow of who we are! I still think sex, looking my best, having new adventures and not acting like someone's idea of a little old granny keeps me vibrant and interesting. My 94 year old Mom thinks so too (well, perhaps not the sex part 😂)! And everyone cannot eat the same way either! All of us have unique differences. I too do better when I don't eat meat. But I also don't eat sugar. My body is unique to me. I have a friend who thrives on Keto and another who is doing great as a vegan. I respect their uniqueness and they respect mine. Sassy is in and I plan to be that way forever!

I'm italian raised in italy . Here we love pasta and bread as you all know but many years ago i spent two weeks in croatia , in a little village on the sea front . I rent a tiny house and the owner proposed me to let her cook for me twice a day for a small sum of money . She served everyday a generous portion of fresh fish caught by her elderly father and plenty of vegetable fom her garden .no bread , no rice ,no crackers . I have never felt better in my life . My body and my brain were energized . This is my experience . I came back to italy and got back to my old way of eating . Now i'm sixty and would like to change my lifestyle . i'm not overweight but i feel intoxicated if very seldom i eat certain foods like sweets , fried or greasy. My new very young female Doc was especially thrilled with my cholesterol as it was high but all the good type. The only below average number was my sugar. I do drink coffee, use spice and eat dairy. My skin care is an hour walk a day and using my sauna at least 4 times a week.

Two habits I have which I feel work for me: for one, first thing I take in the morning is a room temperature glass of filtered water which gets me off to a good habit the rest of the day and secondly, I use sun screen 365 days a year rain or shine. I’m 76 with few. wrinkles and those I have i accept. As for meat, everything in moderation. Oh yes, I forgot a third - try not to worry about every little thing. It saps your energy. Go with the flow. Everything usually works out.

As I get old (turning 72 in next year) I find one of my good habits is speaking with my authentic voice. I don't have time to waste being a people pleaser or spending time with people who drain my energy. I like that about this stage in life. I know who I am now and I give myself permission to be who I am. Not everyone is going to like me of course (just like I don't like everyone) and I am good with that. I have to say Desi is my love behind my cat princess. Watching him in the yard just warms my heart. Answering your question is something I use to be more lax on. Being honest and reliable. I had someone who blew me off in April and I hadn't heard from since them Friday there was a phone message from her letting me know she's moving near me. I'm sorry but I'm 61 and friends are sparse. But I do have a standard that I need my buddies to be honest if they can't follow thru and be reliable to a point. I stood that ground with the gal who called Fri. No more.

Good for you. I had a friend like that. She would break off the friendship over a false pretence. Then after a period of time l would hear from her because she needed something. When she got it she terminated the friendship again. The last time she did that l realized it was the fifth ttime. I changed my number after letting her know that l was permanently done.

Grandmothers are not the same as grandmothers of years ago. I am a grandmother and have been for almost 29 years. But... I worked up until 4 years ago. Years ago, grandmothers usually didn't work outside of the home. Now grandmothers are strong vibrant women. At least that's how I feel. I may not look it, but that's how I feel. I don't know how to feel old. I've never been this age before. And on my next birthday I'll be 80. How does an old lady act? I'm just the same me as I've always been. The body is slowing down, but the mind id still going. ❤

Happy birthday, Desi ❤ He is beautiful. I can't believe he is 10 years old! It is obvious how well he is taken care of by you. I know he takes care of you, too. I am going to be 63 in January, but I feel about 73 these days. My skin has very suddenly started aging and I look about 5 years older than I am. I am in a very difficult season of life that is not going to change for a long time and I felt like the stress was killing me and aging me. I am trying to work through some difficult emotions while improving my lifestyle through diet and exercise to help stop this rapid decline in my health and looks. I have cut way down on sugar, alcohol, caffeine, simple carbs and most processed foods and I limit meat to a very small portion each day. It's not as much fun, but I hope it helps. By the way, I saw that ad for Medicare and found it offensive. The men in Medicare commercials are usually handsome and well-dressed, while the women are made out to be old hags or something. Maybe it's supposed to be funny but I don't appreciate it. It sends the wrong message.

Hi Susan, you are such a light and inspiration to me, but, ooops, your doctor is ignorant. I've been carnivore , all animal based foods, for six months .Hi blood pressure gone, no more prilosec, or allegra much, much better outlook and attitude concerning life and much younger looking skin and thicker hair. Because animal based is all whole food, no addictives, its the best elimination diet, to see, as you add things back, what is affecting your health. You should try it for 3months and see how you feel. I've tried all diets, none worked because, I believe, I'm carb addictive, cravings never stopped, until now. This is amazing. I forgot to mention, arthritis pain is much less and at 62 I've lost 28 pds and counting. Thank you so much for your wisdom and joyful life outlook. You are so good for me!

I do water aerobics with many seniors, some of them in their 90’s. So many people staying young with exercise, singing, laughing, socializing. It’s a hoot, and has helped my painful body feel much better. Oh, and the water is warm! Try it!

My sweet precious Susan I will be 80 in February. My son of 54 said MOM that woman is younger than you and she looks horrible. And her behavior is nothing like you, I'm so glad you act young and look young. I agree this portrays us as old frumps. I am told I could pass for 70 I know that isn't much younger, but I do try and keep myself looking good and acting good. My granddaughter is 33 and I am proud of being her granny that is what she calls me. I am granny to her two of my great-grands. Thanks to the good God I'm alive to enjoy them and be a blessing with all my old stories. I enjoy your videos so much and your Desi is adorable. Happy Birthday to him. I would love to pet him. He is a good dog, not a yapper. Who wouldn't want Desi? Thank you Susan for your love and time you take to share with us. We love you and Desi.

To me, being content and calm is the best thing I can do for myself. Stress does cause disruptions in body processes and stress is a factor in many diseases. The skin thins and we lose muscle mass and structure as we age. So do what you feel comfortable doing and don't stress about the commentors who disagree and/or try to "correct" you. My Aussie rescue is 10 this year too. She's such a beautiful, sweet girl. Happy birthday Desi.

Hi Susan, Sometimes when people become vegetarian or vegan, they do not know they need to supplement with vitamin B12 & D. A lack of these two vitamins can cause anemia. Everyone’s body reacts differently. There is no one size fits all. Meat works great for some folks & some of us cannot assimilate it. You seem to be good at listening to your body. Thank you for the glycolic acid products. At 69, I cannot use Retin A anymore either. I look forward to trying these products. Bless your dear heart once again.❤️❤️❤️Much love to you & Desi.

Susan, you hit on what has to be my biggest issue with aging. It's not the fact that I'm getting older, it's the fact that people have such a stereotype about how women should look, sound, act, and feel as they get older. You certainly do not fit that stereotype, and neither do so many women I know. Yes, there are some women out there who have given up on themselves, and that makes me sad. But that isn't the truth for so many of us. OUR truth is that we are strong, vibrant, relevant women who still have a lot to offer this world. I applaud you for spreading that message, and it's my mission to do the same. It's always such a pleasure to spend a little time with you and Desi!

I've been making hyaluronic acid serum and vitamin C serum with ingredients from "Making Cosmetics" for a long time but I'm ready for something different. I just read a lot of these comments and am so pleased to know so many women our age still feel vibrant, pretty, and energetic and get mistaken for being much younger than their chronological age because of exactly that vibe. This is my tribe and I'm happy to be part of it. I am amazed that somebody would correct you for talking about sex. We're still alive, right? Paid for excess baggage and kept on smiling….one of my thrift finds was a small antique cut glass vase….turns out it was Waterford Crystal which originated a few miles down the road from my home…so it has twice, travelled half way round the world and now is back home!😁 Had my first visit to Walmart, Costco’s, and two other rather large stores……I had two wonderful weeks of experiencing the epicentre of art and culture….My beautiful American friend isn’t feeling so well ……can I ask all of you beautiful women to remember her in a little prayer tonight..xx

Hi Susan and happy birthday Desi 🎉. I immediately put the black pearl eye patches in my order on Amazon. Thanks so much for the info. Then I thought should I mention this...then I thought I have to it's Desi's birthday. Dogs live half as long as they used to and have the highest cancer rate in the world since kibble hit the market also yearly shots cause cancer. Monthly chemicals cause seizures. Dogs are 99.9% wolf every breed and thrive on animal protein. For my dog Happy I boil chicken and gizzards or lightly cook hamburger some eggs or fish then I add a few greens with liquid vitamins and minerals. Most treats are garbage. Desi looks incredibly healthy but just in case ,...I had to pass on what I've discovered. I think I would have run out of subjects years ago but every week your like a breath of fresh air and Desi is a little gem. ❤Diane

I turn 70 on Wednesday and it’s hitting me harder than any other number!!! BUT like you said… I have to remember who I am ….. even when I’m called “mam in a store!”🙄🤦‍♀️. I have always been a non conformist and will probably always be that way! I think that’s what keeps me young at heart and that’s what’s important. Yes, skin in important, I have a regimen. But I also think it’s important to keep our attitudes in check as we age! You can have all the beautiful skin in the world but if your attitude sucks , that’s an isolation enabler! Keep on doing what you’re doing!! Love to hear your thoughts always!!😘 Happy Halloween!

Well Susan I have to say first that you have inspired me in a couple of ways. I am changing my ways and improving my health and my appearance. Not that I ever really looked bad before but I’m making changes. First off I have improved my facial regimen and I try to wear nicer clothes. I have tried to start dating and it is a process these days but I hope I find one nice one to work on building a relationship. So I feel better about myself and you have given me that and it is a good feeling. I just needed a jump start and it’s nice to see women who take care of themselves and make the effort to do so. I do have to say that meat does not cause inflammation and you have been given some misguided information. Now maybe beef could be hard on your digestion but poultry, fish and even pork is good for your body and muscle. You need that type of protein. So don’t stop eating meat it will help you stay much healthier. I would check it out on the internet and you’ll see. So have a good week and thank you 🙏 for all the inspiring you do. ❤

Fantastic video Susan - every part resonated with me. I too suffered from acne into adulthood and always felt very conscious of my skin. Giving up dairy really made a difference to such an extent that people ask me what I use to get a ‘glow’. I see from other comments that talking about meat is a touchy subject. But for me going mostly vegan / plant based has not only cleared up my skin, improved my health but it also open up my eyes to animal welfare. Congratulations on your beautiful home - you inspired me today to make my home look as cosy and as inviting as yours. Happy birthday Desi 🎉❤

I have a routine of letting loose and just dancing around, often in my kitchen. Where I have a sign that says “this kitchen is for dancing” and my 4 yr old granddaughter totally agrees. 😃 That routine of dancing to music and singing songs from the 50s into the 80s gives me that edge and makes me feel alive and happy. Thank you so much for the reminder to care for our skin. I missed that lesson early on but believe it is still better late than never. 👍🏼♥️🇨🇦

You have NO IDEA how much I needed this message. Dealing with government bureaucracy has made me want to help people older than us who might not be able to figure it all out. It’s got me down, but Iwon’t give up just like you . I take care of my skin as well , and yet there’s more I’m not taking care of. THANK YOU🎉😊🎉

Oh Susan, I just love your channel! Thank you for the tips! Like your last rose, we are going to bloom against all odds. I loved your last speech, sometimes I feel like I have no right to hope for more when I see the terror others live in, but the way you said it got to me. I ought to use this privilege, for however long God grants it to me, to make the best out it all because after all, I might be able to help somebody, like you are helping me right now. 🧡. Sending you all my love like always. PS: Your production value was superb this week. Happy Birthday Desi! Don’t forgetting about our cup of tea 🫖

Happy birthday to precious little Desi. This was a great video Susan. I agree with you that we have to feel good about ourselves and love ourselves to be able to give comfort and love to others. ❤

One of the habits I developed for about 10 years is my daily neck exercise. Sometimes, I forget get distracted by life...lol , and it starts to go backwards. They have helped me to prevent a "turkey neck." I started to notice women in 50- 70 have a "wadle" of skin under their neck, which keeps me on track. I lift my neck to look at the ceiling, then open my mouth upward, as if I was kissing something, keeping skin tight. Next move is while looking up, I pretend to smile real big...alternate. you should feel the muscles tighten each time. I only do this for a minute each day. Iam near your age Susan, and no wadle here! Lol

The kissing thing to tighten the double chin area, my dermatologist said to pretend you are kissing a giraffe. Reaching your and tightening your lips upward to kiss him. I thought that was a cute way to start the day. Kissing an invisible giraffe 👄👄🦒🦒🦒🦒

I do something similar. I combine it with my yoga practice. I put my lower teeth above my upper lip, then extend the neck so my chin is raised towards the ceiling. When the body is ok with that, I then smile without changing the position. It really targets the neck. Tip: whentuening the head upwards, try to keep the length in the back of the neck to minimise compression 👍

All those things give me a migraine headache. And messing around doing silly things with my neck also causes me to be dizzy. I think I will just stick with singing also

About the only things I've used for many years are rose hip seed oil and apricot seed oil. The apricot is lighter and I like it for daytime. I will have to look into pumpkin seed oil too! I am going on 63 and everyone is shocked when I tell them so. Maybe it's time to fib a little! 😉
