My SECRET to finding GREAT CAMPSITES! [It's easier than you think]

By popular demand, here is my secret to finding great campsites. This method will make great camping tips for beginners, seasoned off-road 4x4 overlanders, and adventure seekers alike. Free camping and dispersed camping in your local area are not that difficult to discover if you know where to look. This process is by no means the only way but the way we do it at Overland Bound.
Using a combination of the Overland Bound Mobile App (OB1) combined with simple and common sense localized ranger resources, you can be free camping in national forests near US service trails with ease. And, that is my preference- free dispersed camping! This process applies to basic camping, RV life, van life, are serious off-grid 4wd enthusiasts alike. Just remember, regardless of how you find your campsite, leave it better than you found it! As always, if you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below. Enjoy.

I look forward to the day I can get off this rock in the middle of the Pacific. I long to go on a road trip again and get out into calming nature for the first time.

Really great video, I am just starting and clueless so this was super helpful. I saw that many campgrounds in CA are for "glamping" only 🤣 and the national parks needs many months in advance reservation.

I sure coulda used a forest service road app when I was on my 2 month plus trip that I just got back from! Thank you! Also, I like to play a game I made up called "10" whenever I get to my camp spot. I try to find 10 pieces of garbage to collect. Hopefully, I never make it to 10!

Great vid Mike… as a photographer (one of those crazy film 4x5 tripod folk), my overlanding is to get to the location that I intend to photograph… although the journey has it’s benefits as well. So the fewer the bods in the way of my scene, the better! Currently chugging along in a 71 Land Rover Series, but I get there. And yes, I modded the OB medallion to fit the breakfast grille. Happy Trails out there!

Ok…ok… I don’t have a rig like yours but I’m interested in softroading. I have a 2018 Subaru Outback with Falken Wildpeak A/T. Yea I know there not K02’s etc. I’m looking for easy trails that would take a beginner to awesome places and impress ones boss (wife) that this “adventuring” is fun and worthy of investing more into handling more difficult roads. So off I go to the app looking for such adventures on easy AWD Subaru Outback safe roads in central and Northern California.

@@the_bencredible I remember many years back taking Ice House Road when I had a Jeep Cherokee. Snow was around and it was the first time our dog played in the snow. I remember coming across a helicopter landing pad. Didn’t go much past the landing pad that I remember. Ok I have work to do.

It does. You can upload GPX and download GPX. We don’t have a comparison review, but that’s a good idea. Our offline mode and ability to download offline maps is coming soon. The primary benefits to OB1 is the integrated community, and events. We have a large network of adventure travelers worldwide who will answer questions and support you.

What I will say is that the region area of our forums have members in your local area that might help. Also, you can see Members on our Member Map (Overland Bound One app) and reach out to them to see if they have suggestions.
