Another suggestion for sound absorption for anyone who might be doing something similar: moving blankets! A few inches from the wall or behind the mic, they work incredibly well at deadening the sound & can add some texture/color depending on the make. Quite a few professional VO artists use them!

@@inyourfayes yep! You can hang it directly against the wall or 2-4 inches off (the air gap enhances the deadening and reduces reflection transferring from the wall by contact). Can also hang them from c-stands or whatnot as more temporary options during recording! A second layer can help enhance the effect, but it does get a bit toasty & with too much deadening you can get a bit of a muffled, boxy sound. In any case, for a small space like this, especially if you use a shotgun mic, unadorned parallel walls are the enemy, so everything that will disrupt the reflection of sound helps (books, furniture, photos, etc). You can also get acoustic panels with artwork printed on them which work well for video backdrops-I believe you could have your own photos printed or make your own panels with some corning 703 insulation!

First of all, congrats and best of luck on the new adventure part - really cool! Secondly, thank you for making this video, really cool to see how you took that space and transformed it! I got the feeling that it was originally meant more as a storage unit? Really great then that it had a window. I’ve recently moved out of my old studio, but something like this might be worth exploring, albeit on the other side of the Earth.

I genuinely appreciate your willingness to take risks, which was ultimately the message of this video. You are a talented photographer, videographer, storyteller, and unintentional comedian (and general contractor) who creates compelling stories and subtly communicates sound professional development ideas. When I first watched this video, I needed to figure out where you were going with it, and it seemed like a gamble. However, I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't just another typical 'studio setup' video. I was impressed by how you took something ordinary and applied unconventional thinking, resulting in memorable content. Kudos to the team for keeping it fresh, and congrats on a growing business.

Looks great. I have often thought of this but the storage facilities near me in Queensland dont have power or windows and are not open 24 hrs so it would really restrict me.

Were you recorded the little movie part from 1:53 - 4:56? What lenses were used? And if you choose this type of slow cinematic videos, wont be a mistake. Nice one!

This is so sweet. My wife and I met on Instagram and chatted for about 6 months before she came over for Christmas. Seeing you guys meet the first time at the airport brought back all the feels. It was so awkward that first time haha We both flew back and forth between Canada and Latvia for 3 years before she moved canada and we got married. Glad you found your person and keep creating! Yess! And funnily enough. Majority of the building is occupied with people that made an office out of it. The space is like a blank canvas, you can do anything you want with it hahah.
