@@Fl392 lmao I mean I like the car bro but doing an HR swap is the most pointless shit ever. Just boost the car and save thousands of dollars for an NA car. Yeah sure the HR has a bit more power than the DE, but it’s only a few ponies. It’s like spending thousands of dollars to go from a 1000 whp engine to a 1030 whp engine lol.

@@THXIIIRTEENso in my case, my DE 350z has about 225k miles. Do you think I should rebuild my shiet or do u think its still pointless on getting an HR swap cuz I was kinda going towards an HR swap tbh idk

@@claveecl1564 do you want to rebuild your DE because it’s high mileage and want to refresh it? 200k is high but these engines do last longer with good oil changes and maintenance. Also when you say rebuild, do you refer to refreshing your DE with OEM parts? Or a fully built forged internal upgrade? if you do an HR swap, you’ll need the engine ofc, the HR trans, wiring harness, and a lot more miscellaneous parts that you may not even think you’ll need. Here’s a video of a cost breakdown ( kzread.info/dash/bejne/X6uIktuhhqeeZag.htmlsi=LPtSEjZclKRxMhDj ) it’s for a G35 but you may get an idea. in my honest opinion, i think the cost will be very high but it all depends how and where you get your parts, like you could do it cheap by buying a trashed 350z hr as a donor car or sourcing junkyard parts but it can be a hassle doing all that back and forth stuff. I personally have a DE G35 and wish to boost mine with a fully built engine in the future, I think it’s cooler having a built DE just bc it’s the OG engine and you see way more boosted HRs than DEs so I like being the underdog, at the end of the day it’s your choice bro, I would say to just get a notebook and do a cost breakdown and compare. Since you already have a DE, you could buy a JDM DE from jdm west coast for around $1500 I think, all you would have to do is rebuild the engine and assemble it back, as opposed to HR swapping and having to do wiring and tedious stuff like that, and if you’re not experienced it may be very difficult. Also if you’re doing the labor rebuild yourself you can save money there, not sure what your intentions are, possible boost or track use etc. the HR is a good engine but for the extra 20ish wheel horsepower I don’t think it’s worth it. DEs can reach around 290 hp on rare occasions, HRs reach 320 on average fbo. It’s a small difference when they are naturally aspirated, a HR will handle boost reliably at 600 hp, on a DE to make 500 hp reliable you’ll def need to put forged internals. If I were you just make a list of the cost and what you would want to do, also as they say “do it nice or do it Twice” if you’re going to rebuild your DE you could build it on the side, buy cams, change gallery gaskets, etc do small little upgrades since you’re already there. I had a timing cover leak for years that I wanted to take care of, I was patient and send off parts to get polished and powder coated, i bought an OEM timing kit, months later i finally removed the old timing cover, refreshed the timing system and added some pretty painted parts. My DE didn’t need a new timing kit, but since I was removing the whole front end I said I might as well do it since I’m already there. I would 100% recommend change the small o ring gaskets and stuff like that. Sorry this was long any other questions I’ll be happy to answer.

@@THXIIIRTEEN wow thank you so much for this reply it was rlly helpful. But honestly I live in cali so its a bit strict out here. So my plans for my z was to maybe just refresh it wit DE OEM parts. I had my z for 2 years @ 195k miles nd havent had any problems gladly, other then getting a valve cover for the future since theirs oil innit. But other then that its pretty healthy so I’m not too worried about anything happening to it. But ima cross out that HR swap idea cuz it sounds like a lot for just a little difference nd after knowing how long these DE engines can last I feel like the best option is to refresh it nd maybe get a DE engine as well. Once again thx for ur reply
