It seems like Logic just straight up doesn’t understand what criticism is, and what a critic does. It’s something worth looking into, or just thinking about for a while.

I really enjoy whatever this relationship is between Fantano and Logic. I hope this never stops.

maybe this is an unpopular opinion, but Logic’s not so subtle need for approval from Anthony gives me secondhand embarrassment. Logic is a talented guy, and Fantano himself told him to not give a fuck about what he or anyone else has to say about his music. It’s a cute and funny dynamic, but it’s clear Logic is more into it than Anthony is.

The coolest part about Logics music as a hip-hop head is all the little easter eggs in his beats and sample choices and rhymes but not sure what there is to like if you don't get all his and deep cut hip hop references but a lot of times it feels like he's too on the nose and not enough of his own original sound.

Logic clearly still doesn’t get it. It’s like he’s lucky enough to have become friends with Fantano for him to get over shit, but he still doesn’t see that Fantano is not some cut throat roast reviewer trying to personally ruin an artist’s day. You can tell he still wrestles with how criticism is communicated in content because he self inserts and doesn’t imagine he’d like being on the receiving end of it.

I think it’s pretty impossible for Logic to subconsciously appreciate what Anthony is trying to do. I’m sure he understands and appreciates everything Fantano says, but that part just doesn’t click for him because he wants to believe in himself as much as possible - and accepting criticism generally will undermine your self confidence, even if you are a good listener. I imagine he thinks about reviews of other musicians affecting them in the same way, which is why he gets peeved about Anthony’s skits, jokes, roasts, etc.

It's simply because logic is incapable of being a reviewer himself, he's too empathetic and aware of how sensitive artists are about music they invested care into. Logic is aware of why Fantano does what he does and he admits that it's part of what makes Fantano great but like I said Logic is incapable of relating to Fantanos approach because Logic sees himself in other artists.

I think it’s so wonderful you guys found each other. It’s my favorite KZread love story slightly ahead of Dan and Arin.

I feel like for an artist a review is different than a fan looking for new music and seeing if they should check something out. I look at you as a reviewer for recommendations and to deepen my thoughts on music. Haru Nemuri is an artist I never would have checked out if it wasn't for your review of her first album. several other albums I might have been on the fence on checking out over others and because of good reviews I did. I find plenty of issue with some of your reviews but that comes usually from a place of fandom for an artist I know you don't have. while you and everyone have biases you are actually pretty good at being some what unbiased going in to music, you never seem excited to hate music, maybe some pop people, Taylor Swift, you are biased to not liking her more pop lyrics but that's not your thing and every time you've reviewed her you do take the time to praise and talk about the good and bad never just this and that were bad. For an artist though I could see why they would be annoyed if they put time and effort into making an album or song and a reviewer they like didn't see what they were going for or didn't like.

A podcast with these two would be the first music podcast I've ever subscribed to.

It's okay Mr. Robert Logical, sometimes a mid album still has bangers on it. We still love you.

Thank you for issuing a response. The two of you joined forces and helped me and likely other viewers to realize that issues aren’t always black and white. Hats off to you for not seeing color.

I think for me the biggest thing about negative reviews is their date of release. idk when you put yours out bc new fan, but it really bothers me when I read negative reviews for media before I get the chance to form my own opinion on it. if others around you are saying that x media is bad, when you go to listen to / watch / read x media on your own, your perception of it is going to be influenced already. I feel like allowing / encouraging viewers to try it out themselves first is a great way of showing respect to the artist and the listener. but also, ik thumbnails are important and also if you post a review a month late then less people will care. idk cheers love ur vids an example: I went into the new Thor movie expecting it to be bad, and I was sitting there having to get over my own semi-conscious mental block that "people say this movie is bad, therefor I shouldn't like it" when I realized I was enjoying the movie.

This feels like Melon is trying super hard not to be accept the fact that Bobby is in love with him because the internet finds Bobby to be corny AF. But deep down, Melon feels the same way about Bobby. “Ok, fine. We can have a thing, I just don’t want the Internet to find out Bobby.”

While I’ll say that I do love the Fantano/Logic dynamic and I think this is a fun video, something about the way that Logic phrases his responses just screams “I’m insecure and I want Anthony to like me,”or “He’s being so mean and harsh to these hard working artists and that’s not fair,” and while I do understand his want for approval because validation is a common need that we want from people we admire, it seems like it’s affecting his “logic”(oh damn) and understanding of criticism and that it isn’t a personal attack on the artist itself. I just find it kind of annoying and slightly off putting.. Maybe I’m taking this too seriously and it ain’t that deep, but it’s something that I noticed, I suppose. It’s all good, Logic! Why do rappers always say they are retiring and then never do? Wayne did it, Hov did it.. so many say they are going to retire and come back like a year or two later, which honestly isn't a massively long time for artists.

I mean… yeah. There’s no law against critiquing someone’s criticism, that’s literally what Fantano is doing in this video. Also, Logic’s point was that Fantano is an entertainer first and foremost. He could be a critic and prioritize his experience in an objective way but that wouldn’t be entertaining. So, he makes videos (like the one Logic reviewed) where he absolutely shreds people. That’s content. It seems, based on your comment, that you definitely didn’t watch Logic’s full video

This was pretty damn entertaining to watch! I do have to say I think the one spot you were off on that Chance review is Zanies & Fools. That track goes hard and Chance has Bars. Chance definitely should’ve ended it, but overall a great track on an album that didn’t have much.

That MGK review is my favourite fantano vid next to his Feldman review video, I love that Melon doesn't relish in the negativity and get excited to dunk on something unless it's SO BAD that its interesting.

Hey could you review literally any song or album by VI Seconds?!?!? Bc I have seen many reviews on many artists who have been called good or even great who I personally don't think Kenny even stand on the same planet as this man still wise. He is super underrated and under viewed and I feel like real talent gets looked down upon today and basic trash gets pushed up and talked as if it's golden.

Ah, man... I was hoping Logic was going to have fun with this and be a little more even-handed in his approach. But, instead, he sorta comes across as someone who is still in their feelings when it comes to music criticism. Like, my man, you're telling me that someone who hasn't liked an artist's work in the past should choose to not review their future work? It sorta sounds like you only want critics to be fans who gush about albums. That isn't what criticism is.

Bobby didn't mention the Tones and I review. THAT shit was savage haha

My only criticism of Fantano's work isn't the quality of his work but the framing that comes with the territory of KZread content creation. There's a level of expectation when a "red flannel review" drops. You expect a certain level of dunking on content, maybe a bit more pageantry, which is why the red flannel reviews get more engagement than non-flannels, regardless of the known quantity of the artist being reviewed. Again, it's all part of the KZread game. The flannel bit makes great thumbnails, which helps drive traffic and engagement. But it does tend to skew those negative reviews a bit more harshly than others without saying a word.

disinterest usually says the most about quality imo, if you’re reviewing something and consistently thinking back to the older works in someone’s catalogue, it says a lot about your opinion implicitly.

Damn. This was more eye-opening than Logic’s review of the review. I actually want to see a review of the review of the review of the review from Logic

I don't see Fantano as a hippie hater.

Something serious is at stake here: if Fantano did indeed replace his colourful languages and harsh critique with a more respectful approach, many of us probably wouldn’t be here. So the issue here seems to stem from the fact that we collectively revel in Fantano’s “meanness” to pieces of music he dislikes, which in fairness can indeed come across as disparaging to the artists themselves. I think Fantano knows this, so his offer to consider taking on suggestions on how to be more respectful is a little contradictory (even if I don’t doubt his sincerity). Personally I think it’s totally fine - great even in cases - for Fantano to be harsh and mean towards big name artists who dropped the ball. I am more hesitant with smaller artists - though it seems to me that Fantano probably feels this way as well since as far as I know he’s never really been mean to smaller artists.

I love how this guy makes videos over 10 minutes long, not even for the ad revenue part, you can tell he just enjoys giving and receiving feedback and doing what he loves to do 😅

This is great, the chemistry of this bromance wants me to literally see logic do this for forever 😆
