@utrian4148 the only important headphones that need to be plugged into a jack are audiophile grade open back cans. Those types are headphones that typically can't be powered by just a phone. Phones can't overcome the impedence needed to drive most of those open backs. Plus open backs aren't good for public listening. Just use a Bluetooth headset. They're not expensive anymore and if you want to go a more expensive route for them then those options exist too. There isn't much of a purpose for headphone Jack's these days

The new macbooks don't need much cooling at all tbh. My m2 max macbook pro is so much "colder" than any other performance based windows laptop I've ever had. I hear the fans a decent amount while playing bg3 at ultra presets and slightly above 4k resolution, but it never gets very warm. I never even hear the fans on my very cpu intensive panorama creations in Lightroom with about 200 photos which result in a 600mp image. It took my previous laptop about an hour to compile them while plugged in (the battery died when unplugged, but wouldve been at least 2 hours). The m2 max does it in about 20 minutes while whisper quiet and using about 5-10% of my battery. TLDR, the cooling they do have in the current macbooks works amazingly

I also have a redmagic 8 pro and dicovered some bugs, but I bought it rooted, so I'm curious if you have these too: Most equalizers don't work e.g Spotify's and YT Music's, even a lot of equalizer apps. The developer settings reset and disable when changing the dpi, except for the dpi. Not being able to set a password/pin/fingerprint etc. appears to be just a root problem and there are problem fixes I can remember having some graphics in Genshin that made it partially look like straight outta the 90s, but that fixed itself within 2 days. And the notification of a media player somehow switches between dark and light mode when playing and not playing. And I'm generally missing the progress slider in notifications, but I think that's just bad UI design. Alongside a lot of other not so good UI design like their gesture navigation. I'm glad I'm used to the navigation buttons. I'm pretty sure that I discovered more bugs, but I can't remember them. Just could count up a bunch of bad UI stuff...

The most outstanding feature is using Mora as your VTuber persona for streaming anonymous and an honorable mention to the feature that displayed her irl just like pokemons in pkmn GO, there's nothing useful about it, you can make her pose and rotate, which admittedly can be fun to mess around once. in summary, it just is waifu stuff

Would I rather get a charger in the box or a better screen? Or camera assembly? Or 65W charging speeds as opposed to a 35W charger? Bought this phone in the 800€ white version on day 1, got it delivered on day 4 in a place that usually takes more than a week to get anything else delivered. I looked up the greats and gripes of its predecessor the 8 Pro, including the poor software translation and the "measly" 2 years of updates. Sure the updates situation hasn't changed, but I haven't seen software translation issues yet. Coming from a Motorola G8 Plus, the difference was night and day. The squared out, uninterrupted screen is gorgeous, the performance is rock solid, it's a bit of a slab volume-wise but I rather that than a flimsy phone now. The edges are aluminum. The fan is not loud at all. I don't have all the accessories he presented, coolers and gamepad, even then a good Xbox controller with a phone holder adapter works well enough, just be careful with your choice of phone case as the power and Vol- buttons are right in the middle of the right edge where a phone holder would grip and push down.

The lack of any functional return policy if I don't like it, and the fact they don't test the cameras at all (which as I understand it is pretty standard for ShortCircuit phone unboxings) are the main things giving me big second thoughts about this. Otherwise, even as a non-mobile-gamer, it looks like a steal for what it is and does. I love a lot of the design choices; flat rear camera, transparent front camera, headphone jack, etc.

The OS is stable and works, very much base android with the red magic flavours added, the software they added isn't very heavy and does it's job. They provide 2 years of software updates for my device, I don't know if they extended that time for the latest device. In the end, you buy this phone for the spec's/performance to price ratio, for photo's and video, look for something else, like a Pixel or Samsung. @@Labergemusic each cell network has certain bands that they use for signal and each phone only supports certain bands. This is why there are North American versions of phones vs world wide versions of phones and sometimes separate EU versions of phones. Phones made for the NA market will almost always support the NA specific bands as well as most if not all others used in NA, but not necessarily all of the bands that are used elsewhere in the world. Many of these phones from Chinese manufacturers, or really any that are not made specifically for the NA market are often missing some or all of the NA specific bands. I use T-Mobile and where I live on 4G it is almost always band 66, that is NA specific, and when I tested with a phone that didn't support that band, I had very little coverage anywhere that I tested driving around the city.

Camera bumps also prevent a phone from laying flat depening on the dimensions and arangement of the cameras. The S23, for instance, rocks when tapping the lower right or upper left corner because it sits unevenly unless you put it in a case that flattens the back of the phone. @@greenprotag Depends. I always prefer to hold on to my phone for as long as I can but typically I've upgraded after 2 years have passed since the last OS update. So the new policy with the Pixel 8 and Samsung S24 seem very appealing to me, as I'll be able to comfortably use my phone for a long time. I just don't like upgrading my phone frequently, I've just had to so far.

the camera, there is a thing to consider. with PCs it's more an issue than with laptops, people like to have eye contact. and they realize when other people look somewhere else. since the camera in a video conference is usually not where the eyes on the screen is, that causes a disconnect. but an underscreen camera that works might fix this. just place the camera somewhere in the center of the screen and there you go.

Why not test battery charge speed 0-80% instead or as well? To 100% the physical charging limita are very different, plus the manufacturer changes the charge curve, plus a lot of people stop charging at 80% to atempt to limit battery damage. By testing all phones to 80%, the differences in charging current between devices will become more apparent. By testing fastest to 100%, you are encouraging these manufacturers to blast the phone battery as hard as posible to get that hard-to-get last 20% to claim they are the best.

I think having it as well is very important because of everything you mentioned, and both data points have their own relance to a lot of people. Hopefully that can be a consideration as they further develop the lab and their data visuals.

you will solve all of that by including an option in battery settings to limit the charging to a point % you are comfortable with, my laptop has that option, some phones have that option and all phones should nave it. with it set up, the speed at witch you charge becomes less important. as an example, my phone: huawei p20pro 2018 - 2024 started from 4000 mAh is now at 3129 mAh, that is a loss of 22% of my battery capacity in 5 years with normal usage. if i had the option to limit the charge at 90 or 80% i could have reduced it somewhat. even better would be to include the option to reduce the charging speeds in the phone settings.

~3.33C charging? wow. I wonder if labs can do testing of battery health after years of that high rate charge. That would be nice data to see with charging speeds going the way they are.

I have been using the Red Magic 5G for 4 years. And the battery is still as new. I don't drop it below %20 and only charge it up to %80. Unless occasionally I had to drop it to 0% or get it to %100. The 9 Pro is %100 faster in all aspects than the 5G variant. My games consume half the power than the 5G and the same FPS and the same power with double the FPS. Been charging the phone and playing all the time with no throttling issues whatsoever, in controlled ambient temperature,

6000mah battery, no stupid on screen camera, no rear camera bump AND a 3.5mm jack. This thing is awesome. If i didnt just upgrade a few months ago id probably get this one. Only thing it needs imo is an IR blaster and its be perfect. Also Mora can go. No need for anime girls on a phone.

Can we all stop commenting on whether or not a device comes with a charger or cable? Of all the shitty things tech companies do to save a buck, this one is actually a good thing: Less waste. Nine times out of ten, you already have a correct charger and cable for a new device. They should only come with one if they have some special sauce hyper charging nonsense that requires a special charger. But also they shouldn't have proprietary crap like that, so no free passes there. Let me buy a charger and cable from my favorite manufacturer in the style, color, length, wattage, etc that I need for my usecase. And don't give me one more piece of e-waste in the box.

  • @hayden.A0

    @hayden.A0

That's true but it would be nice if you could just specify if you want a charger in the box when ordering online, since that's where a large portion of purchases happen anyways.

God damnit Linus, I don't need a new phone right now. But this thing is damn tempting. Battery life that seems to good to be true, no hole punch, a headphone jack, shoulder buttons, active cooling, and a top tier SOC? And all of that for $650?! Kinda makes me wish my note 10+ was crappier... So I'd have an excuse to replace it.

I am still trying to get an answer when they are going to ship the phone. I just keep getting a vague answer of 2-3 weeks. If you do order the phone you give them money and hope for the best. Will update if people want.

To be fair, the camera bump is not that bad considering that everyone nowadays would use a protective case. it would be more impressive a Case that had a cutting for the external cooling unit
