My Process: Applying tips with builder gel instead of glue

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hi! It's Liz, momma2crazy5! This is just a short video showing my process of applying full coverage tip with builder gel instead of nail glue. I hope it's helpful or useful in any way to whoever may be thinking about doing this. As a reminder, this is just what I do. Everything about doing nails has to be catered to each individual exclusively. The only way to develop your process is by trial and error. Thanks for watching and don't forget to LIKE and SUBSCRIBE!!

I have always used glue for my full-cover tips and recently decided to switch to gel and I watched 20 videos AT LEAST and none of them told me anything I don't already know, especially since I've been using full-cover tips for so long already. You were the first one that actually explained details, for example that I needed to put on base coat for the gel to adhere to. No one else told me that! Even something as simple as using an alcohol pad to do one last wipe around your skin before putting it in the lamp, it may seem like common sense but no one else mentioned anything like that. I am so thankful I can't even tell you. I was so frustrated, I was so angry, I was practically in tears and then I found your video and I am so so thankful for you. You are the first one to actually explain in detail how to use gel to apply full-cover tips. I can't thank you enough for making this video. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I’ve been considering using base gel for press ons and then coating with topcoat before color to reinforce them, but this really looks to be a better adhesive and will add the builder gel. I was using forms which is way better than sculpting but there’s still some work to do with them. I think I will try the builder gel with the base gel. They have gel press ons that Im waiting for that can be bended to your nail shape. And when you apply the gel glue, you mold them to your nail shape and cures in that position under the lamp. It’s really a good idea and I think with this method will give them a great look. I also think the trick is, if ppl don’t want press ons looking too flat is put another layer of base or builder gel as a filler and glue, if your not using the gel extensions which just forms to your natural nail. It’s a good alternative to those who don’t want all the salon work. Lol

I've never tried, but I don't think that gel base will offer the same level of adhesion that the builder gel offers. Gel base is formulated to leave a tacky layer for a gel enhancement to grab onto, however it stays tacky and doesn't dry completely so because of this I think the tip would shift and move around freely. That's just my thoughts on it though, if you try it out let me know how it goes!

thank you for your detailed tutorial. i did this last night but i skipped the builder gel and used base gel to apply since my tiny bitten nail subs are very curved already. hopefully they will last a while. how do you remove fake nails applied this way? it doesn't seem like the normal removal process for gel nails would work. i'm having a hard time finding info for this specific process online.

I think you absolutely could! One thing to note, most of the tips you'll find like that have color and/or designs on them so make sure to cure for a longer period of time turning your hand from side to side while in the lamp. Doing this will help ensure the builder gel is able to penetrate through the tip and cure fully.

Honestly, I've only ever used builder gel. I've never tried the gel that comes with the tip kits. I would assume that they're pretty similar though, I do know that builder gel is intended to provide strength without too much thickness. It's viscosity is what fills the void between the natural nail and the tip itself. The gel that comes in the tip kits is intended to do the same.

I have never had a greenie. The trick is to make sure the builder gel has sealed all around the parameter of your natural nail so that moisture doesn't have an opportunity to become trapped and allow the bacteria to grow.

I feel like it is necessary, only because the builder gel may still stick to your nail without it but it may not stick for very long without primer. By this I mean like a day or 2 just depending. That's just my opinion, I'm definitely not a professional but I believe longevity would be minimal without primer.❤

This happens to me sometimes too. I find that it tends to happen when I don't put enough builder gel in the tip before putting it on my nail. Too little builder gel can cause a few bubbles but too much can cause seepage. Just gotta find the happy medium, that'll come with practice 🙂

Etching the inside of the tip will help ensure that it doesn't lift off of the builder gel. And the gel base on the nail 1st is how you keep the tip from lifting from your nail plate. 😘

I use the full coverage modelones coffin tips from amazon. Next time after you apply gel base and cure, try applying a thin layer of builder gel to your nail and cure for 30sec. Then apply builder gel to the etched tip and apply it to your nail. Also, try applying it a little bit further away from your cuticle. I hope it helps ❤
