I want to THANK YOU so so very much. I have a super high spec PC, 78003xd + 4090 + 32gb + quest 3. I had previously tried a tireless amount of settings. Tried VDXR, OCULUS, Steam, steam vr, airlink, and numerous other other nvidia settings, nothing worked. Nothing got rid of low performance, stutters, judders, spikes, screen wobbles etc etc. Nothing worked. Tonight i stumbled upon your video, and gave it a shot. Well, it worked. 99% Stutter free. Its opened up my setting 20%, no CPU spIKes, no judders, no rubber banding. I dont know how you found this combination, but its restored my faith in MSFS in VR. SIMPLY AMAZING NOW. A MASSIVE.......THANK YOU!!!

@@Virtusim Well, thank you again. I hope i may ask you a few follow up questions, as I hope to unpack what made the DRASTIC change in my performance. So here they are after watching you do the settings for the 6th time to try to understand what sort of magic was performed. 1. In regards the "background application FPS" - You set to 30. Is this because your running your VR at 30fps or? 2. On XR-toolkit, what is the difference between "FPS THROTTLING" and " TARGET FRAME RATE". 3. i AM USING STEAM VR, and in the resolution settings, it allows me to go further up in resolution. Do you think this is advisable? For better image quality. And because I am potentially using "steam VR" for advanced resolution enhancement, would using XR toolkit resolution enhancement "conflict" with the steam settings, and add more "complexity" or "competing" visuals"? 4. What is "turbo mode" actually doing? Apologies for the further questions, but i am very happy, pleased and excited, after the recent gains thanks again, to YOU. Many thanks and best wishes my friend. -i9-12900ks - 32GB RAM - 4070Ti - Quest 3 (72 Hz, 100% resolution) - *** Absolutely all MFS VR settings max *** Result: 36-40 fps for most cities, which I found to be quite smooth given that you have all the other graphical quality details to enjoy. For very busy cities (i.e. New York), it drops to 25 fps (which sucks), but it's just a matter of lowering the MFS VR settings as shown in the video to reestablish the balance. You made my day, Mike!!! Thank you so much for opening my mind about reducing PC settings...it seems so obvious now 🙂

Thank you so much! I also had a HP Reverb G2, and followed the settings. It is almost 100% perfect. I went back and did some of the landing challenges and trainings. Went from Cs to As. Everything seems natural now.

Thanks Mike, 16GB Ram Ryzen 3800 RTX4070 Varjo Used your settings for the Nvidia driver and the Sim setup I am still playing about with OpenXR Toolkit settings but wow! VERY clear in the Varjo and getting ~ 38fps in VR I only fly in VR & am very happy with the results. Regards Dave

Thanks for this Mike, this has made flying 2020 in VR from ok to awesome for me. Running i7-10700, 4060Ti, 32 G ram. I did notice, the key for my system was to roll back the PC setting to Low-end. WoW what a difference. Thanks again for all your work on this. Kevin

4070ti super here, so far really liking these settings, Thank You! Using an occulus quest 3. I was able to up the resolution on my quest 3 and turn up the detail on objects and terrain as well. It looks great

Thanks for the hardwork doing the detail. You could lock the framerate externally to 45 using Rivertuner instead of the toolkit. On the microsoft forums and with my own experience it is the best lock out there.

Many thanks Mike. I've got a quest 3, and finaly i didn't think to change the performance of pc on msfs2020 lowend. I will check this weekend and let you know. I think i will keep more fps that i have today (25fps) so upgrade options to ultra ;-)

Thank you!! These settings should also work for P3D except for the ingame settings. I don’t owm p3d, so I don’t know the in game settings.

In XR toolkit, what value is appropriate for 'resolution override'? You mention Reverb, but what about Quest 3? Is it the native resolution of the headset's displays?

The Q3 has a native resolution of 2064 × 2208 and that's almost the same as the Reverb G2. So these settings should work for you as well. Let me know if this works for you.

Great video, I will try out the settings. I have two questions though. How are you recording your game while in VR, are you cropping a section from your monitor? My second question is does lowering PC screen quality not lower the quality perceived by recording and on youtube not cause bad graphics? Since you’re essentially recording your PC screen. Thank you, I'm using a VR mirror in OBS to record one of my eyes of the VR headset. The quality is what I have set for VR in the sim. I'm lowering PC quality, because I don't need to have it in hight quality when I'm in VR.

Works great for my Varjo Aero (13900K 4090)!

@@Virtusim Ya, I'm just so used the hearing/reading that one particular performance utility is better, with the only evidence-free explanation ever given is that 'the other ones' actually, themselves, degrade performance. Ah, the internet.

No overclocking on my system anymore. I tried MSI Afterburner, but MSFS didn't like it

Hi Mike, I have some questions about the open XR tookit about your settings. Why do you choose 100 % size and 60 sharpening and not e.g. higher ? And what is the advantage of the turbo mode it had it off first. And the frame rate 40 % am always curious what the settings do exactly and what it improves in your opinion ?

Turbo mode can improve your fps, but don’t use it with motion reprojection. The 100% gives me a good result and the sharpening you can set at any value to your liking. Overal these settings give me a smooth gameplay without the headset blacking out or losing fps.

I just brought a new computer specifically for MSFS and DCS world. with a 4090. I tried you settings and they were spot on. Much thanks.

One question… does it fix the blurry small letters on instruments. Are u able to read instruments like on flat screen?

It doesn't fix it completely. I can read the instruments pretty good, but I'm not staring at the instruments when flying. I just look outside and glance at the instruments to make sure what the attitude of the aircraft is. It's like driving a car, you don't stare at your rpm indicator to read what is says, but just look at it and make sure the needle is in the right position ;)

Thank you Mike, I have been slowly getting more and more confused with various settings in various places (Nvidia, MSFS, Mixed reality, oculus etc etc). I started again as you recommended and saw a great improvement. Never had a problem with playing on PC and get frame rates in the 40s-50s with mid settings but VR has always been awful. Struggle to get frame rates of 20 and picture is really stuttery. Using your settings the basic picture is much clearer and more defined. I still however have to use Oculus Tray tool and set Default ASW to 18fps with 1.2 super sampling. Limits me to 18fps but I do get a very smooth picture with only the odd slight stuttering. My PC is mid range i7-4790 3.6Ghz 16G RAM and RTX3060 GPU Would be nice to have smooth graphics without using Oculus tray tool but am guessing a new CPU and more memory is needed

@ttscea Graham, I’m glad these settings work for you too. Playing in VR is very demanding on on a PC. My best guess is to start with extra memory. 32Gb should be ok. I also have a new video online with renewed settings. You might want to check that out. I prefer a slightly lower quality image and a smooth VR gameplay. Thanks I will try these, my pc is of a similar spec. How do these settings work with low level flying? Do you get many stutters? I find so long as I look forward and upto 45 degrees all is OK but looking at 90 degrees then the stutters start?

I have completed the settings, I have a slight reduction in clarity I think because I have reduced the resoulution in the OpenXR utility. Need to do further checks for stutters but they haven't gone, I just need to assess if there is an improvement. Thanks@@Virtusim

You wouldn't want to modify global settings, just on the app settings, in nvidia control panel

These settings are definitely an improvement, but I only get 30-35 fps Even with my RTX 4090. Is that what I should expect? The smoothness is good but there remains blurriness in gauges the cockpit.

I Just came across this video which looks awesome, I just got my meta quest 3 and I have a problem with the a320, everything looks great but the digital instruments look so blurry from a far position, are these settgins fix that issue of ''clarity'' with the screens inside the plane?

Just try them out. They are a lot better. But if you want better clarity, you can choose TAA if you don’t mind the shimmering effects that comes with TAA

When you see this, it boggles my mind that people are still wasting money to buy eye trackers, something that was ok 15yrs ago, and believe they have found true 'simulation'. After VR like this staring at a flat monitor screen is absolutely pointless

Not necessarily. VR comes nowhere close to visual fidelity of a flat screen.

@Dajlec I think in the early days with the likes of the first Oculus headsets and the screen door effect and GPU's that were not quite powerful enough, this is true but the clarity of high end HMD's these days combined with top end GPU's is more than sufficient to see everything clearly in the cockpit. You really are there. In that cockpit in a virtual world that looks so real, it's difficult to distinguish from reality at times. A flat screen is just that and provides zero immersion. Almost everyone who I have shown VR to these days has commented on how difficult it was to go back and look at a flat screen while sitting in the spare room. The experience is incomparable. I'm pro VR as you can tell 😉 * I do think cost is still a barrier though. A good VR setup is very expensive

I followed the guide and got good fps, but my GPS display got too blurry. Keept all the settings but switched back to TAA and still got good fps and much clearer GPS

Hello. First of all, thank you for the video. I have the meta Quest 3 and have already made the settings very low. I also adopted the OpenXR settings as shown in the video. Because of the low settings I can no longer even read the displays in the cockpit. Despite everything I have 4 FPS. No matter what I do, nothing improves. Can you or someone else help me? I'm just overwhelmed and sad because I got the VR for Christmas :(

The problem is that I have already tried out its settings (a little worse). But I also have a maximum of 7 FPS. and that in a helicopter that was just standing on the ground, not in flight at all. I'm starting to not understand it all anymore and I'm really disappointed/sad.@@Virtusim

I understand your frustration Jelle. Do you use airlink or a cable? When you use airlink, make sure your router is close to where you are for an optimal connection. What are your pc specs and do you have the same problems with other sims/games? You can also try the Xplane demo and see if that one runs good in VR. If so, then something in MSFS is conficting. Try running the sim with an empty community folder. You can do this by renaming the folder to Community_old and create a new empty Community folder. Start the sim and choose medium graphic settings and test if you get enough performance. Then slowly increase your settings. Hope you find the solution Jelle.

I do have a 4070 to super with a i7 14600f and it’s really freezing with theses settings… I’m sure I’m missing something but I can’t find why :(

i dont understand why you set pc settings to Low End when using VR ??

I do that so the sim doesn’t render high quality for pc in the background. Leaving more memory space for the gpu to render VR

Increase the resolution to 3000x3000 or more in OpenXR Toolkit and apply DLSS Performance. You'll get significantly better clarity for same number of fps.

@@Virtusim Actually you'll get the same perf with something around 3200x3200 I think. The clarity still improve a lot with even higher resolution like 3500x3500 or even 4000x4000 but you'll probably need a new GPU.

well. i have tried ALL your settings and i still cant get the performance that you are getting my vr g2 reverb goes wierd (screen goes black for 5-10 secs)my vr framerate wont go better than 17 fps and is a stutterfest

Try lowering your renderscale for the headset in openXR toolkit if it is set to high.

Quand on aura les 2 controleurs actif en meme temps et des boutons qui se tournent correctement et la possibilité d utiliser ovrtoolkit avec fs j arreterais xplane..pour le moment je reste fidele a xp12.jai evidement fs mais je men sert que pour m amuser en vfr parceque cest beau..mais pour les avions de ligne en vr c est compliqué.

You are most likely in LOCK mode. Go te General settings - Accesiblility - Cockpit Interaction System and change LOCK to LEGACY

While these settings may be fine for you , there are no "one size fits all" settings as far as VR is concerned. I started with MSFS VR with a 3070 paired a 5600x with a Rift S. Then upgraded to a Reverb G2, in which case my settings had to be changed pretty drastically. Then upgraded to a 5800x3d and a 4080 and my settings changed wildly to get the best results. Similiarly, your settings in this video are no where near the performance and visual quality I get using my own settings with my hardware. While they may work well for you, they are completly unacceptable for me. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents.

That's why it's called "My preferred settings" They might work for others and they might not work for some. We all have a defferent system to work with and different addons for the sim. 2 years in VR is still relatively "recent" for the gaming industry. I've been flying for real and in the sim for the last 30 years. So 2 years is still pretty recent :) Just my 2 cents and now we can both have a beer. Cheers and thanks for your input mate. HNY

It’s already set to 16x in the nvidia control panel. Setting it on in the sim AND in the control panel can result in artefacts like shimmering and stutters.

Agreed, I run a much higher resolution with a Reverb G2 3500x3460 ish and get 45 fps with Motion reprojection and Turbo mode off since it completly ruins it. No FSR using CAS.
