Nice use of the branch cuttings. Basically 2 Hugelkulture beds. There will be nutrients generated for quite a few years to come. I’ve got to tell you that I laugh every time you mention how cold it is. If I was at home in Ottawa it would be so cold with so much snow that the thought of going outside to do some gardening would be far far away. I was in contact with one of the other allotment holders last week - there is still 18” of snow/ice covering the whole area. Good effort. I lined my pallet collar beds with dpm and sat them on a brick at each conner as they rot quickly as not treated. You can put the larger branches you put in the polytunnel and the one you put in the compost bin to cut in the bottom of your raised beds too. Larger stuff at the bottom, as someone already said its called hugelkultur and it'll rot down in a couple of years. Such a good idea 👍 it is nice having taller beds. Mine are disappearing into the ground as I put more and more compost mulch on the beds and woodchip on the paths each year. It is really pricy. Just a thought for you. I buy my compost in from a local lady who I found on fb she owns a stable. She sells me a load, equals 2 bulk bags on a flatbed truck for £60 delivered. It’s organic well rotted manure. I tested it first time with broad beans and all fine and it’s been brilliant. A lot cheaper than compost and no weed seed. Would be worth a look for similar where you are. My own homemade compost is full of seed even when I get it up to temp. Just not hot enough for long enough. I’m just not turning it often enough perhaps 😅 Great vlog again Gemma, Sarah 👍
