My heart broke when she said "Hi Taruk" and you answered her. I agree, having birds can be extremely stressful at times and involves some intense problem-solving work. My African Grey has given me a tonne of stressful nights. You're doing all you can man, and we wish you the best!

I've said this before, get some more birds in the room with her. They are social animals. I had a 50 yr old Mealy Headed Amazon who hated everyone. He didn't pluck feathers but it was obvious he was miserable, even though he had everything a bird would love. I gave him to someone who had a variety of birds. He literally changed overnight. Even though the other birds weren't the same species, he had birds around and it made all the difference.

@@PrztDre I know, right? But so many are domesticated and in the wrong hands. At least there are people still willing to take proper care of the birds and take them from terrible people to personally care for them or bring them to proper sanctuaries.

When she said “Hi Toruk!” and you just said it back so defeated... this is so sad. Weird to see you so bummed out, man. I know you 100% are blaming yourself but it was an accident. She’s back, she’s safe and I know you’re doing everything you possibly can to get her back on track. Hope everything starts to look up soon. Give the fire chicken a cuddle from me.

I have been around parrots (mostly Amazons) for for 30 some years. I am so sorry about Toruk. I have seen birds pluck their flight feathers. I really hate that you have to give her injections. She does seem to be getting afraid of you. She doesn't understand it's for her own good. Have your hands clean when handling her. One good thing is Toruk is eating and active. Yes you store is awesome. I have watched since your first video. My husband and I also ride Harleys.

Flying that high, scared the shit out of her. Naturally she pulled flight feathers. Less of a chance of doing that again. Birds are smart, and when plucking it's so sad. So stressed out neurotically plucking. Poor baby.

I kind of think that too. a self clip. this is why if your bird flies, clip them so they can only fly 8 to 10 ' high. Generally that's the outer 4 or 5 wing feathers. BUT on a windy day, they can still get pretty high. At least you got her back. that's the good thing.

Idk about that. My cockatoo got out, just like this. She got taken by some wind and was screaming her head off as she circled my house. 100 ft up, hit a 60+ ft palm and glided down into bushes. She was shaking after I got her back. She didn’t let me out of her sight for a few hours. But she never plucked after that incident. If it’s windy and she’s in my hand, she opens her winds and clamps her feet on my hand. She has full plumage and with only the two outer flight feathers cut (had 4 cut then but after some research, I think it’s unethical) now, since I take her out often in harness. As sensitive as birds are, I think don’t they are smart enough to know that flight feathers = high flying.

JoAnne Denison She is. That happened about 4 years ago. My girls has her feathers and her aviary outside. When lose, she walks among my dogs and goes everywhere with me. Her previous owner told me she was attacked by dogs, but she’s every trusting; she knows that MY dogs are gentle and not interested in messing with her. She’s quite a character; very wild, so she still had a lot of spirit in her after her accidental fly off.

Poor baby 🥺 I hope she can learn to trust you again and build that bond back... it will take time. Be patient... extra loving whenever possible!

My bird did this. It broke my heart. Everything you’re going through, I went through. A parrot behavioral expert (also an avian vet) explained that these are wild animals that really should not be domesticated. She is out of her natural habitat and needs to be with a flock and eventually mate, but she’d never adjust to the wild now. Very few large avians fully adjust to being alone. Birds are sold because they are money makers. She might have a bacterial infection, but curing the infection may not cure her of feather picking. The whole avian industry needs to be redone. Only small birds should be domesticated as they adjust to life in a home. She’s in a cage for YOUR benefit, not her own. She a prisoner in a cage for you, not free to live the life she was born to live. I’m sorry. It was difficult for me to acknowledge, but I now believe it to be true.

There are plenty of large birds that are perfectly happy in captivity. We took our macaw everywhere and he never once tried to escape. The thing people don't realize is that they basically need company, no exaggeration, 24/7. I doubt this man has the time to dedicate to her when he has so many other animals, and that's the case with a lot of impulse-buy large parrot owners.

I don't think trumaztized as much as excited and likes the freedom. In my opinion, at 7m47s when he went to give her a kiss, she gave him one of those " I'm a grown up reactions" that little kids give their parents. And since parrot and human intelligence is comparable, It might be worth thinking about taking her outside more.

@@elisemueller9967 nah that much stimulus for an animal who has never been through it before. Especially if the wind and stuff scared her for the extended amount of time. Go get stuck on a tall building especially if you've never been more than 6 feet in the air and you'll see how she felt. Stresses affect animals differently than humans. We tend to compare animals to us. If we would like it so should they. Its really backwards. If she has flown outside a lot more it wouldn't be so stressful. Hopefully the Dr is right with it being a skin issue. If its behaviour she may never stop.

Jo She definitely had cultures for gram-negative bacteria, but this doesn’t mean the plucking is caused by them. It’s actually quite likely that it’s the other way around and that the stress and PTSD of being lost weakened her immune system and made her more susceptible to bacteria that she picked up at home or when she was outside, that she otherwise would’ve been able to fight off. Getting a URI or other infection does not cause birds to pluck and barber themselves usually.

This is very difficult. I can only imagine what you guys are going through. But remember that this isnt the end of the world even if it does continue. It is unfortunate but not the worst thing.
