Its because at the time of rasoolullah (SAWS) the pictures were painted by artists, and we already know we aren't allowed to draw pictures of animals or make statues of them, because on the day of judgement Allah ta'ala will call the painters and tell them to bring life to the drawings imitating the creations of Allah, but photos is different, you take photos, the camera shows what ever is there, you arent drawing it, just recording the animal.

Taking photos are haram ❌ Photo in Thumbnail ✅
The scholars that say it is haram to take pictures of living creatures, as it falls under imitating the creation. I really want to hear their argument, cause I can’t make sense of it. Capturing an image through the reflection of light etc, isn’t that just saving an image of the moment? You haven’t created the image, the image has already existed, your hand has not created anything, you’ve only captured the reflection of light through a lens to get the moment saved. A video is also just images being captured and saved in high speed. So is you settle with the argument that taking a picture is haram, then so would a video be. Meaning this video of the sheikh is haram. Meaning broadcasting the Haram on television during prayers is haram, etc.

@@One-ov4ow Shaikh has a very weak argument. @@qarhsi well I think it’s more about analysing the argument behind a ruling than deciding based on what sounds more pleasing. The argument sounds silly that it’s allowed to photograph landscapes and not animals because animals are living. I mean, trees are living too. For me, the strongest argument is going back to understanding why pictures were prohibited at the time of Prophet SAW. And it’s clear that it was purely based on the shirk element as the people used to make pictures to worship them. And I think the ruling should stick to that principle. As long as there’s no hint of shirk or means to lead to shirk, every photography and videography should be allowed. Also I saw another comment saying that physical photographs are haram while as digital are permissible. How silly does that sound?
