I have the exact same watch, and on March 2, 2020 at 3:51am I looked down at my seamaster to see what time my son was born. Priceless piece of my family’s history now.

I bought my 300m over 20 years ago, it has been my “daily” ever since. I wear it EVERYWHERE even scuba diving (!) It has collected a LOT of dings and scratches along the way including a few on the aluminium bezel. The pins on the original bracelet are so badly worn that I now wear it on various Nato straps. It gets serviced every 5 years or so and it runs to 3 or 4 seconds a day. It was a very expensive purchase for me at the time but it has been worth every penny. I can’t imagine being without it ever.

I really enjoyed this. What I've learned over the past 20+ years of buying high-quality watches is there's a danger to consuming too much information about watches: you can buy too many, chase trends, and ending up with what other people like instead of what you like. To me, the ideal is to own no more than three watches that you absolutely love. And it's hard to really grow attached to a watch with too many in your "rotation."

I disagree. There are different needs that require different watches. I am with you with keeping away from unnecessary purchases as much as possible, but for instance I can already think of a “dress” sportswatch (perhaps a diver), a dress watch, and an office watch... yet I would never wear an expensive diver to the beach - so I would get a cheaper one as a “beater” diver. Then perhaps a chronograph? Etc. Three is simply not enough for me.

I also own the blue, non-wave SMPc. It was and remains my grail watch. I ordered it from the military exchange store while on a year-long deployment to Afghanistan; I got to wear it for the first time when meeting my wife and kids in Los Angeles for my mid-tour, 2-week R&R. (The Omega Boutique in Canoga Park graciously sized the bracelet for me, gratis.) It accompanied me to Disneyland, body-surfing at Santa Monica, snorkeling off Catalina Island, and other SoCal adventures. Since I've returned home, it has summitted 14,000-foot Mt Bierstadt; skied Vail, Park City, and Crested Butte; toured Alcatraz Island; sand-surfed the Great Sand Dunes; explored Glacier National Park; and mushed a dog-sled team in the high country outside Breckenridge, Colorado. I wear it everywhere; I definitely don't baby it, and it runs within 1.5 sec/day. And it's seemingly purpose-made to wear with a blue-and-silver Air Force uniform!

Thanks for sharing this Armand. It's a great explination of why most of us become watch lovers and fans of a certain marque. For me it was a Zodiac which I bought new during a difficult personal time and went on to become a talisman and personal friend for a formative part of my life. It carries a few scars from various mishaps but always provided it's presence and assurance to the present day. Although I have acquired a few more watches over the years (including a Seamaster 300) this will always be the one watch. Jonathan at P&C has a picture of it as we were sharing Zodiac stories last year and I related this to him. Nice episode and I love that boat too.

Thanks for relating your Seamaster story Armand - the watch will always be special to you because of the memories it shares. I got my SMP as a first luxury watch back in 1995 and it has always been a regular on my wrist even when now part of a bigger collection. It has aged beautifully (unlike me!) with honey coloured lume and a faded to orange second hand tip. I wear it on a Milanese strap these days which has freshened up the look.

This is my vacation/weekend watch as well. While I have two that I wear in regular rotation, it’s amazing how often I look down at my wrist at the SMPc and think back to diving in Hawaii, going on Safari, or the magic that was my (our) honeymoon. You make a great point that because luxury watches are expensive and (presumably) well-made, these are collectors of personal history meant to last and build an emotional connection over time. This is especially important as our recollection, triggered by objects and sense-memories of our past, are far better (and often more powerful) reminders when compared to rote recall. Hopefully we will be able to pass these down to the next generation with all the memories and stories we have collected.

A superb reflection on you SM300! Thank you for ‘letting us in’. I enjoyed the personability and the story of this watch. On the watch itself; I find the simplicity of this model - with the smooth face and smaller dimensions - very alluring. The blue dial which hosts the white and red text is also most attractive and very British (or American) in its colour pallett.

That’s is one of aspects that I love about watches . That we can associate memories and experiences with them be it a vacation or an achievement or receiving one as a gift on a special occasion. 9 months ago I gifted myself a BB58 while on vacation in the Turks and Caicos to commemorate my retirement after 34 yrs at my job. Thanks for your story with your SM300! I think the most interesting part of a watch is the reason someone got it and the things he has been through with it. I got one of those (dated) SM200 Automatic from 1991 for my graduation from high school in 2011and wore it ever since without taking much care about watches as a subject. Five years later, i was celebrating a friend´s graduation from law school, i banged the watch against a sandstone wall due to a little too much beer. The following day i noticed a big scratch on the aluminum bezel at 2 o`clock as well as a slight hangover. :D Blue-eyed i went to the next Omega AD and wanted the bezel to be changed. They told me that they can't get individual parts for such old models anymore and the the whole case has to be swaped out, as well as a service of the movement was more than necessary. All in all approximately 900€. Long story short, there is still a big scratch on the bezel, i started researching why the bloody hell parts for vintage watches are hard to find and now 4 years later i´m sitting here on a work day at quarter past zero o'clock in the morning and write a comment under a watch video on YT. So even ugly scratches on bezels can be good for something. Cheers!

enjoyed! like all grail watches, the newer ones are beyond comfortable acquisition for most of us. if you have to think about it, it's too much. that said, there are really few pieces out there (with reasonable circulation) that have continuing appeal as they age. the seamaster is one of those great designs stylelistically that once smitten, you'll likely stay that way. almost thirty years, and still pining for one--it's never going to happen, unless i lose my mind...

It was my first luxury swiss watch, in 2001ish. It was a quartz and cost me £825.00. It was perfect in every way. In 2006 I traded it in for a Rolex Explorer for my 40th birthday. Yes, I walked in to an AD off the street and walked out with a Rolex, and I got £600 trade-in on the Seamaster. The Rolex was the watch I always wanted. However, I still miss my Seamaster, the clasp was better quality, the whole watch felt better on my wrist and it got more comments from strangers. I will never sell my Rolex (too many memories) and for 8 years it was my only watch, I played with the kids with it on, football, swimming, done gardening and all sorts of other dirty jobs. It had it's first service last year and cost me £800. Love my Rolex, but miss my Seamaster!

I am a sentimental person and relate wholeheartedly with the idea that without meaning attached to them, objects are just cold, inanimate things. And they are interchangeable. However the price has just gotten too ridiculous, I just cant bring myself to pay 7K *used* and 9K new.. its a stainless dive watch. So.. the Seamaster 300M Co-Axial black dial with the retro dial face has recently caught my eye. It has a vintage look, rolex (maybe even better) finishing, and a movement that I can pass down to my son's. All at a price well under 5K

I honestly don't have a great personal watch story, although I definitely want a seamaster. I love Omega. They are the anti-rolex. Equal quality, but unlike Rolex's artificially imposed scarcity with steel sports models, if you want a steel sports Omega, Omega is more than happy to sell you one and ensure production is high enough that you can walk into literally any Omega boutique with the money and walk out with a Speedmaster or Seamaster. I have a first omega in space moonwatch. Not only did the AD have a bunch of moonwatches, he gave me a nice discount. Imagine walking into a Rolex AD and asking to buy a steel Daytona 😂

The guy at watch finder has got a nice soothing patter and is very knowledgeable too but he is a bit ,....slightly sales pitchy But having said that all three are my holy Trinity of aficionados as regards time pieces et cetera.

Thank you for this video I owned a seamaster 300M one of my supervisor's had a quarts model at the time it needed the battery replaced so it was in that low battery mode you know where the second hand moved every 15 seconds, I thought that was different. at the time I was wearing a Rolex submariner. I mentioned this watch to my wife and for Valentine's day she gave me one,I asked her if she minded if I traded it in for an automatic version After wearing it for awhile I sold my Rolex because I liked the Omega better. it just felt better to wear I probably won't own another Rolex as long as I can get a seamaster..

Wonderful video. Would love to get this watch but worried about being slightly too large. I have a 6.25' wrist. May I ask the size of your wrist?

+ The Lean Look: Thanks very much for the kind words! Being a 41mm watch, but a very slim one at that, I would imagine that it would look absolutely fine. Even so, if you've tried it on and found it too large, Omega did also make a mid-sized 36.25mm version of it. It's identical in terms of specs but just a bit smaller.

I’m not a fan of wave dials, so it looks like I’m going to have to get this one rather than one of the newer models. I have been itching for a watch with a blue dial and ceramic bezel. I know that I am in the minority when I say that I am not a fan of Rolex’s Smurfs blue either on their Batman GMT or Smurfs sub. I just wished Omega had a better naming scheme because typing Omega Seamaster ceramic into google brings up everything except what you are looking for, and their model numbers are just ridiculously long. They also just have way too many models to keep track of. I think that’s part of what devalues Omega’s brand. They need to clean that sh*t up and stop releasing 50 limited editions every month. Still going to get this one though.

Amazing story and affection for a piece that is part of you. I am looking at the 42mm version but worry my 7.75 inch wrist will make it look to small. Wish I owned a watch like this when I was in the marines. All the g shocks and electric watches fired with our jamming equipment. Would of been cheaper to pony up the money and get a solid mechanical. That being said I would of destroyed that watch with 2 combat tours in the infantry. Cheers

+ Hesko: Thank you very much for the kind comment! I think that you'd have to try one on to really know of it would fit but the 42mm version is a but more butch than my 41mm model. It's interesting to hear what you say about G Shocks since a leading cause for having mechanical watches in the late 20th century was specifically due to the use of mines.

@@ArmandTheWatchGuy we all had g shock cause they were cheap and rugged. But often our jamming equipment would fry them. When you dont make much money and you go threw lots of equipment dropping a months salary on something you will mess up is scary.

I bought the quartz version in 2007, it was my grail watch at the time, I went for the quartz as I was worried about future servicing costs. I got a great deal with a decent discount and the watch is actually worth more money now than when I bought it new! I've basically had a free Omega for 13 years! Not bad.
