    I’m always jealous when I see some collectors editions, but then when I come to buy them I can’t bring myself to spend all the extra money for what often amounts to a load of junk (cards, stickers etc)

    Such an awesome collection, really enjoy your videos. Good pickup on the master sword edition and around the 17 minute mark you left in a retake 😊 a blooper of sorts, cool to see. Totally agree, the switch has us collectors just buying and buying games. It's just so.... collectible.

    Hey, thank you so much! It's funny because I thought I completely missed out on that master sword edition, and then it just happened to appear! One of the highlights of my collection for sure. (I also feel like it was Nintendo's last "real" collector's edition). I saw! 😂 Thanks for pointing that out! I did a rough edit on the video so it should be gone... ALSO, thanks for watching that long! Truly appreciate it. I wonder if the unique size of the boxes/uniformity of the spines contribute to the collectibility. Such a strange collecting phenomonon!

    @32BitMusician the color red calling out as if we're a Spanish bull on the verge of a charge attack. The slim spines are nice but I do get drowned out with the sea of white fonts, a bit blinding. Switch also has many games that retail at 29-39 instead of the usual 60-70, inviting us buyers a bit more. I enjoy watching channels such as yourself and others like RNG gamer who also recently out out a switch video. I have created content as well on my channel so I understand the work it takes.

    @@pickflip4429 Ha! I love the bull comparison 😂 Oh, I HATE the spines. Square Enix does something similar with theirs and I hate it, haha. That huge discount is also true! That's usually when I end up buying a game I wouldn't normally get... but I don't really do the same on any of the other systems... And thanks so much for the compliment! I usually put gameplay footage for each game in my videos, but I have SO many switch games that I decided not to 😂 And I watched some of your videos and enjoy your content! Keep them coming!

    Cool collection! The Switch is probably my least played console so I haven't even heard of most of the games you mentioned here. To the Moon looks super interesting! I've definitely experienced that buying itch about five or six years ago with the gamecube so I know how you feel with the daunting ever-growing backlog. Keep up the good work! It's not often I come across a fellow jazz musician/video game enthusiast! I primarily play guitar and bass. Do you have a favorite video game soundtrack? I love the music from the original animal crossing, TLoZ Skyward Sword, and Call of Cthulhu (OG Xbox).

    Thank you so much, Chris! To the moon is a FANTASTIC story driven experience! It's constantly on sale for a couple bucks on the eshop, so if you can, I definitely recommend picking that up. The music is also really charming in that game. Congrats to you on getting on the gamecube before the big buying craze! I hope you managed to pick up a bunch of good titles! I think I about my ever-growing backlog every time I pick up a game 😂 Always a small amount of guilt with each purchase, haha. Always a pleasure meeting a fellow jazz musician! Especially one that is into gaming! Oh boy, I don't know where I'd begin with a favorite soundtrack. I have so many. But ones that stand out to me off the top of my head would be the Animal Crossing Soundtracks (pre new horizons), Nier Replicant, and Skyward sword (SO GOOD). I'll have to check out Call of Cthulhu! I haven't heard of that one! Thanks so much for watching Chris! Feel free to reach out to me on twitter/instagram. Always looking to talk to fellow jazz musicians!

    No regrets, having access and options to play all these games, at any time, is why I have a game library. I don't do collector editions just because of the size, and the fact that they are not a standardized size. I also look at it like this, if I ever become bed ridden, my Nintendo Switch collection will help me get through that time.

    Catherine was such a fun experience. Like you played it and beat it in 2 nights. I was addicted to it. I have Grandia as well but haven't deep dove into it. Like most of my Switch collection, its got the usual got to have games but then I have all the remastered JRPG's for it (Chrono Cross, Live a Live, Frontier Saga) and I haven't even opened/played them. Backlog is too much currently, and like we talked before aiming for shorter games since I dont want to dedicate a month or two of spare time to one 20+ year old rpg I have no affinity for. One day though right!? Ha.

  • @32bitmusician

    @32bitmusician

    Very rarely do I binge a game as hard as Catherine! It was also the perfect length! Grandia is one of the next "classic" RPGs I want to delve into! I've heard great things about the series. I totally relate to you in regards to that backlog. I bought Live a live and played it for a couple hours. I was into it too, but then another game came out that I was interested in and I completely stopped playing it and moved onto the next. The switch has definitely showed me that I need to learn more "self control" lol If I start a new RPG I try to beat it as soon as possible haha! Like you said, I don't want to be stuck on it for several months!

    Nice collection. I think you might be right about Switch game collecting mania. I don't even own a Switch, and yet the collector in me has been tempted whenever I see a good deal on some cool looking Switch game. I'm curious, some of games you have don't have the cartridge...Is that because those ones actually use a digital download?

  • @32bitmusician

    It really is strange! It must be because of the hybrid form of the console that makes it so collectible. I don't remember any current gen console being this collectible. Especially when it was still super relevant. Maybe the 3ds a little bit? Those cartridges were in my switch case! I have a switch case for on the go and I tend to keep my most played games in there! (except for my lost super Mario 3d world :(. ) Thank you so much for watching, Jeremy!

    The original Link's Awakening was my first game ever. The steelbook we got is shaped like a Game Boy running it. I stopped collecting like I used to, but no way could I skip that edition. And I still have a weak spot for affordable special editions, and House of the Dead is a great example (got it for 20-ish euro's, and it has had a touch screen patch, really fun that way as well).

  • @32bitmusician

    I played Links Awakening for the first time on the switch, so pretty late! I played the Oracle games as a kid though, and absolutely loved them. I'd love to see a remake of them one day! So jealous of your steel book! There's something really fun about cheap special editions. Even if it's just a special cover, a manual, or even a CD! Cool to see you also got House of the Dead! I feel like it didn't get the reception it deserved!

    @@32bitmusician Yeah, I even noticed that indie physical releases with manuals automatically get more enjoyment from me than most big budget games with a mostly empty box. Even than many of the biggest shiniest collector's editions, if they lack a simple manual in the box. The experience really does go beyond just the actual playing of the game. And no amount of extra goodies can replace the feeling that a game isn't complete without a manual. I really hope Tunic gets a physical switch release with the in game manual in physical form... And it always has been more than just the digital game, even back when physical and manuals were standard. Some of my favourite DS and 3DS games just had some of the most interesting box art, thick and interesting manuals, a lenticular or a shiny cover,... No DS game could ever have made a better first impression on me than Big Bang Mini with the special cover when I found it for I believe it was 3 euro's in a bargain bin, yet nobody seems to know that game. Good thing that game also backed up its first impression through actual fun and creativity. Just that bit of extra love put in the complete product. Some of my favourite GBA games have special cartridges (like the Boktai games, Drill Dozer, Wario Ware Twisted,...) Got to be careful, before I know it I may want to collect again, it used to be my biggest passion. But hey, I still have all the really special ones (to me personally).

    @@samuelc6246 I'm telling you.... if all games came with manuals (and they started selling video game soundtracks in the US) I'd have NO need for any special edition! And Tunic is getting a physical release! I remember when I first got Pokemon Diamond. I HATED that game, but the impression it made with the sparkly cover was amazing. Reminded me of when I first got Pokemon Emerald as a kid. There was just so much more effort put into being attractive on a store shelf back then. I can't even think of super cool/unique covers on current switch games. I hope you don't catch the bug again! But, it may be okay to dip in every ONCE in a while ;) HA!

    @@32bitmusician We're in total agreement there. A manual, or at least a small art book or strategy booklet that the clips inside the box aren't empty or just used for a download code or some legal notices... The Wild at Heart has a gorgeous art book there, and Wargroove had a cool strategy booklet with info on the different units, all with colourful illustrations. Those are examples of games I enjoyed immensely, from the moment I opened the box to long after I finished the game. Some games did enough with a special edition to make up for the lack of manual, like Little Nighmares 2 with the art book and the nice figurine, and The Cruel King and the Great Hero with the absolutely gorgeous storybook and all that. Some games (especially Microids releases) have slipcovers or even a 3d lenticular cover, like House of the Dead remake, some steelbooks I kind of like but offer little more than another mostly empty box... Devolver/Special Reserve, Nicalis (which don't release in Europe...), and some other still do a decent job making a standard release feel MORE than a special edition. But most unboxings of new games are disappointing if you even expected ANYTHING but a cartridge in a box... and if you'renot carefull, you may even get a "copy" that doesn't evenhave THAT nowadays. Really? That's awesome, can't wait to add Tunic to my still way to big collection then! And that's a game I genuinely want to play. Yeah, when I see that a game I am slightly interested in has a full colour manual in a standard retail release, the bug bites... But I won't "double dip" or pay some 30+ € for a game I can get for 5 on the eshop, and often haven't even enough interest in as an actual game to pay 5 digitally.

    @@samuelc6246 I completely agree with you in regards to the steel books! I actually am not a big fan of them... they just take up more space! I'd like them more if the game came in the steel book rather than the plastic one though! (Like Persona 5 did originally) NIS Does some really nice "standard" releases. I also like Nicalis and Devolver for the reasons you mentioned! I think this conversation really just made me realize how much I MISS manuals 😂 Tunic was such an amazing game! One of my games of the year. I think you'll enjoy it immensely. I'll definitely be picking up the physical! It really is crazy how much some of these companies can uncharge for including a manual/physical release... But we keep on buying them so I doubt they will ever stop, haha

    My approach to purchasing for the switch is exactly like yours, there's a strange collectors FOMO approach with the switches even with brand new games....look at everyone with Metroid Prime, there was panic over a high print normal release haha. I think where Nintendo hold there prices on there core releases, the sheer amount of rpgs, remasters and Retro style games also avaliable, chuck in the playasia and limited run style game releases....there is already a high price retro style market for this as a current console. I think we'll see a chasm where weaker games really dip in price and on the other hand rarer titles really spike. Also the way Nintendo handled Xenoblade Cronicles 3 special edition orders on there site was disgraceful only feeding on customers desperation.

  • @32bitmusician

    @32bitmusician

    You know, I didn't even think about the FOMO effect. Maybe it isn't just it being the switch, but rather the fear of limited runs? I really do wonder how much of it is investment collecting or simply getting a good deal.... I definitely see switch games being significantly more expensive 10 years from now than PS4 or Xbox one. Crazy how well these games hold their value even now! But also, it's insane how much variety there is for this system. There are SO many releases that I don't even hear about, and I'm pretty informed with gaming news. Don't even get me started on Xenbolade Chronicles 3! 😡
