I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

For those who may not know, never stick your fingers into the ultrasonic cleaner's water mix while the unit is actually cleaning. You will severely damage the nerves in your fingers, & the damage is permanent.

Donny, I have the same make and model of ultrasonic cleaner, purchased at the end of summer 2018. Since then, I've used it on many small engine parts such as carbs, and also to clean hard-caked Cosmoline or similar material from the working parts of military surplus rifles that have been in storage for many years. The oldest were dipped and stored in 1956, the newest 1964. It's worked extremely well for all jobs. Initially I used your 50/50 mixture of distilled water and vinegar with a bit of Dawn dish soap. However, following a tip from my local sales rep, I bought a gallon jug of "Simple Green Ultra Pro" concentrate (which is actually purple) from Princess Auto. The dilution instructions on the jug suggested 3 mixtures with distilled water: 13:1, 9:1 and 4:1. I found 13:1 was adequate for carbs that were not too badly plugged, but I settled on about an 8:1 mixture for cleaning the rifle bolts and trigger groups, etc. The Simple Green Pro concentrate does an excellent job of completely removing even hard-caked grease 60 years undisturbed. With the mixture heated to 60-65 decrees C, even the most stubborn and inaccessible Cosmoline was removed with 2 fifteen minute cleaning cycles. One trick I leaned from another KZread channel, Mustie1, was to have a small perforated basket - about the size of a tin of condensed milk - in which very small fasteners, pins etc. could be placed. That basket then sits in the larger basket in the cleaner. I didn't have a small metal basket, but I made one using some metal window screen wrapped around a condensed milk can, with edges joined with fine wire. This does not impede the cleaning action, but does prevent tiny metal parts going down the drain hole to the gate valve. Plastic zip ties disintegrate, BTW. Since I was using more than one cleaning solution for different jobs, I put a conventional NPT-hreaded hose barb into the drain valve, then attached clear tubing that let me drain a still-usable batch of fluid into a jug for later re-use. One day I came across a very old glass-bowl sediment trap - from exactly what I don't know - and I put that in the drain line. I found that this collected a lot of particulates that would otherwise have gone into the storage jug. I imagine the same thing could be done with a filter paper cone or something of the sort. My machine has given me great service, and makes many jobs much easier. I've had no problems - the booklet that came with mine had clear operating instructions. One thing I've learned to keep an eye on are the underside vents for the cooling air fan. Those attract dust bunnies, but those take only a moment to clean up. One thing I did learn, from a neighbor's experience with a similar unit, was not to exceed the duty cycle for the ultrasonic mode. They do get very hot when running, and not all thermal paste cement is created equal. I've never had a transducer come loose, but I check periodically to make sure all are still attached to the stainless steel bowl and operating. Thanks for the video.

I just tried out my little ultrasonic carb cleaner. I use spray 9 a lot in my shop . Reelly cuts though grass staining . I figured maybe I’ll try it . Add about 1/4 cup and water . Worked great . How great ? I cleaned a snipper carb my old carb clean method and put a kit in it . Started right up but couldn’t get the high speed to adjust with out shutting off . So at 55C and 10 minutes later I reused the kit and carb worked excellent afterwards . No discolouring to parts that I could tell .

I like the idea of an easy way to drain the cleaning fluid. You can then filter out the grime (as others have stated) but you can also take the cold fluid out of the garage and preheat it up in the kitchen. The little 400w heater in the unit will take quite some time to warm 5C fluid to 60C. Your kitchen stove or microwave could do it much faster.

I have a 1" thick rubber patio pad sold by home depot. Sit the machine on top of that if on a bench other things on the bench will still vibrate like screws or the like. Even better is to put it on a tree stump of a good size or on the concrete floor on top of a rubber mat. All these will help dampen the sound. Also a quick once over with brakeclean or a good carb cleaner before the parts go in makes it alot better. Getting rid of the dirt on the outside of the carb is easy and prevents it from getting into the fine orifices in a carb. A good solution made for taking off varnish and other hardened fuel components is advised if you want it cleaned inside and out.buying a new carb cause you cant get it clean enough just tells me you should try harder. Unless of course you are the one selling the carbs lol.

As an update for cleaners to use, I now use Simply Awesome cleaner from the dollar store. I use a 50:1 ratio but it can be less. U found that purple cleaners tend to etch and remove the coating on carburetors. I no longer use any really harsh cleaners in mine. I can say an USC is the best way to clean the tiny passages in a carburetor but do agree that it will not save every carburetor. You can only do so much with an abused part. This is the best small engine Channel to watch as far as I am concerned, thats why I won't start my own, I do use my cleaner on RC nitro engines as well snd it works wonders. Hi Don, since I can't really pin down which of your videos helped me the most (so many) so I'm going to put this here on your latest video. I think I can speak for mostly anyone who has seen your videos and those who haven't will learn this in time. I could go on about the experience you have with small engines. Too which there are not many out there that share the technical plus hands on experience you have. That is impressive on it's own and someone coming to find out why his snowblower has no spark will be satisfied with just one video. Others like myself had/have bigger problems and after watching numerous videos will see what really makes you special. It's how genuine you are. How you explain everything so that anyone can understand and follow. You have a gift and thank you for taking the time to get the right camera angle, close up and best view for us. The calmness in your voice and the patience you have is remarkable. Thank you for walking me through a complete tear down and rebuild of a Tecumseh HS-50. I'm proud of myself for following though and I can count the times that has happened in my life on one hand. I never could have done without your help. I'm a floor layer by trade and if there every comes a time you need advice I would be happy to take as much time as you needed to get the job done. As I'm sure many of your followers feel the same........I am forever in your debt. Sorry for the wall of text but I just don't think a like or a few quick words could fully express how thankful I am. Make sure to fill it to the top of the fill line as the instructions say if you don't you will burn up the heating element for the tank As far as I know its the only American made cleaner out there

I have 2 one 10l and one 15l, I haven't used carb cleaner since, I have the drain hooked up to a clear hose, and a paper fuel filter to strain the liquid, I use a 50/25/25 mix 50% simple green purple 25% distilled white vinegar, 25% distilled water, now I no longer put the mix into the ultrasonic cleaner, I put distilled water in the ultrasonic cleaner and fill it, then I use plastic containers like old peanut butter containers, I fill them with the mix, put the part in, and the mix, put the lid on, the plastic container, and put that into the preheated water, turn off the heater, and then turn on the ultrasonic part, and let it clean..... By turning off the heat setting it makes the ultrasonic part work more efficiently..... Don't leave the carbs in my mix for more then 45 minutes.... It darkens the aluminum.

Robert, My tank is filled with distilled water as well. I have always used separate containers as you suggest in mine. This allows me to keep different solvents such as standard parts solvent in one, simple green in another, and etc.. You need to make sure the container itself is not affected by the solvent however. For certain solvents I use glass, which I do not like in the shop if at all possible, but sometimes is necessary because of the solvent type. Another tip. If your distilled water line in the tank is below the filled container you place in the ultra sonic cleaner you do not need to put the cap on the jar. If you have an odd part that won’t completely fit in the jar you can simply turn the part around and run the cleaner the second time. Just make sure the uncapped jar is not going to be buoyant or tip over before letting go of the jar. Usually placing the part in the jar is enough to accomplish this. You need the cap for storage for sure.

@@joemurone4898 both are Velvor brand, Amazon bought, I have owned both for 5 years now, the biggest thing you can do to make them last, make sure you use water only, all cleaners have chemicals that can mess up the steel in the tanks, so put your cleaner in a glass or plastic container and just put it in the water. What goes out the quickest is the heating element, but what I do make it last alot longer, fill with water, about 1/2 of compacity, then turn on the unit, then when emptying let it cool down bfore emptying, they can burn out quick if no water is in the tank. Winter I use them probably 3x a week, spring summer and fall, I use at least one of them 5x a day, and never had a problem, as long as you take care of them, winter I let the water out every day so it doesn't freeze over night. Hope that helps, any other questions please feel free to ask, thanks.

@@joemurone4898 also I prefer plastic helmans mayo jars the big ones, glass becomes a hazard if you drop it. Another tip : heat the water up, then once it is at the temp you want turn off the heating, then turn on the ultrasonics, see by turning off the heating will give the ultrasonics more power during the cleaning cycle.

To lessen the noise, take it off the metal workbench. Either put a piece of wood underneath, or better yet, don't put it on the workbench at all (acts like a sounding board, amplifying the noise). Ideally, put onto something with sound dampening material, styrofoam would work but ensure plenty of space underneath unit for cooling/fan. Then again, not sure why it needs a cooling fan if it has a heater... :)

I bought a one liter version and it will do everything I want do do with it. I generally clean bigger parts with gas or break cleaner with a brush and compressed air. Mine, says one liter but it hold about a half gallon of water to which I add a little bit of Purple Power and Dawn. . It will darken aluminum, slightly, but it does clean anything I want to clean in it - mostly carbs. Yours is identical to mine, except bigger.

@CSXRockford yes, it will slightly darken aluminum, but it does not harm them, mechanically. I would like to lay my hands on some harbor freight degreaser but we do not have a store near me. I am thinking about switching to mineral spirits or kerosene, both are good degreasers. I am well aware of the flammability of both.
