My New Stihl MS261C With Artic Package

Ойын-сауық

I was looking for the best chainsaw I could possibly find for what I am doing and hopefully I have found it. The Stihl MS261c-vm is the professional grade 50cc saw from Stihl with the additional artic package that includes heated handles and heated carburetor. I am hoping that this saw will be a perfect fit for my all around chainsawing needs. Watch as we look at why I bought it as well as for a general overview and testing of the saw.
Welcome to Traplines and Inlines, this channel focuses on my dog and I on our remote Off the Grid Homestead in Northern Canada. I make videos on off grid homesteading and building, trapping, chickens, mechanical projects, and hunting and fishing.
I went offgrid and started building my cabin over two years ago, while I was still in highschool. Since then I have built many things at the homestead and have had the priviledge of learning many things along the way.
The homestead is designed to be relatively low maintenance and with extremely minimal expenses. All of my electricity comes from solar power, heat from woodstoves, and I haul all my water so I dont have any monthly costs associated with my homestead.
I love the lifestyle, especially because it gives me the absolute freedom to do whatever I please. I plan on continuing to tackle awesome projects and work at building and fixing many more things, and I cant wait to share them with you on the channel.
Thanks for watching!

Fantastic saw you have there. Your excitement is mint. Can’t go wrong having two chainsaws. You showed us your birthdate on a milk carton in Bushcamp - Finally Getting the Fridge Running Off Solar at the Offgrid Cabin published August 26, 2020. So, wishing you a belated Happy Birthday, Trapline and Inlines! … - Enjoy! With an Old Mil or two of course. Be safe my friend.

Great choice for a work horse of a saw. Hard to beat the power to weight ratio. It will serve you well for many years to come. Thanks for the breakdown & tutorial ~ always learn something cool through you. Know absolutely nothing else about chainsaws but I do know that Stihl makes pretty great products - have fun using it! (The warming handle is genius. Without it, can imagine hands cramping; especially when your fingers are fighting stiff gloves in cold weather. This little detail could significantly stop that.🤞)

Fantastic saw. My 261c has a TON of hours on it and zero issues. Mine isn't an arctic, but I don't need that where I live. I don't use it a ton anymore as I have a 462 and a 500i as well which I do most of my felling and bucking with. You'll enjoy that 261 for many years. The only tip I have for guys that are new to M-tronic saws is to let the saw idle a bit after running it hard for a while. Let the M-tronic come back down to idle and reset itself before you shut it off. if you shut it off right out of a cut, it can cause some flooding issues. If that happens, just hold the throttle wide open while you start it. That usually clears it up.

I have a couple of small "homeowner" Stihl saws that I use mainly to cut up large tree limbs that come down in wind storms on our little mini-farm. They have served me well. Great was by a great manufacturer. I've owned a number of Stihl pieces of equipment, including several saws, and still have one now. For my money, based on my many years of experience, they're the best. And they'll last for years and years and still work efficiently. Interesting that you mention the balanced feel while using the saw, as that's what I've always said when comparing a Stihl machine with any other brand. When I had employees, the only thing they wanted was Stihl also. You'll be a happy sawyer for years to come.

It is a good saw for sure. I have one with the arctic package as well. I swapped it to run 3/8 chain at the dealer before I bought it. My tip is to pay attention when screwing the oil cap back on. It is possible to not do it right and have the oil cap come off and spill all over. I also have a 661, but often use the 261 because it is amazingly capable even on larger logs.
