Hey, congratulations on your new remote job. I completed my MSN -informatics last April and still looking for a job. I've done a couple of interviews with no luck. But I'm not worried at all because, in addition to being at bedside for 16 years, I'm very tech savvy. I understand SQL, SSRS, SSIS, MYSQL, TABLEAU, EXCEL, GOOGLE SHEETS, HTML, etc. I've done so many self-assigned projects, etc. Anyway, congrats again and wish people like me well as we continue to look for a job in this field.

Keep me updated! I’m like two classes away from finishing up my masters in informatics. Working remotely is the dream!

What school are going to?

The smile on your face the entire time you spoke is just awesome. It was between Psych NP and Nurse Informatics for me. The amount of liability as a NP tipped the scale in favor of Informatics. Please keep the videos coming, keep smiling, and congratulations on your new role.

I am currently in the same position as you now! I am currently working as an inpatient, psych RN, but am always thinking of the path that lies ahead. Did you ever feel that there would be less opportunities within the informatics realm, or did the liabilities of the psych NP role just seem to be too much? Thanks in advance!!

Congrats David...! on your new job! I think you have what many RN's are looking for these days... a job where you can work from home! From watching your Informatics career progression, I have gotten the vibe, that nursing informatics is as much who you know as what you know. Re: you don't need a Masters of Nursing Informatics to hold a Nursing Informatics job. It sounded like after you graduated with your Masters, your first informatics job didn't just fall in your lap and it didn't happen immediately. Did your new Nursing Informatics job where you can work at home come about through networking outside your current employer or is it with the same healthcare organization you were with in your previous employment? I recall in a previous vlog you lamenting how hard it is to get experience in Nursing Informatics and your best option was to become a superuser. Was it your brief experience in your first job that got you your at home job? Also, was your Nursing Informatics Masters course all online or was it in person? Eager to hear your responses! I'm sure your dog is over the moon now that he/she is also your co-worker!!! LOL! :)

Hey thanks!! I will definitely say that it is who you know, unfortunately. Although, once you are in, finding new positions seems to come with more ease. This new position is with a different hospital system, so it was networking outside of my group. The thing is, is that I applied and interviewed for this remote job back in January, and they liked me but went with someone with more experience, and now I have the experience so here we are haha. My informatics program was all online until the last course. I had to complete 200 hours shadowing. There is an option to do your hours online as well or even in a hybrid type of way BUT like you said, it's all about networking when you can so I chose to do it in person. My dog is going to be soooo spoiled lol.
