    It’s really interesting with the speed of working. I’ve been trying to finish several songs for weeks now, and just running around in circles. Then I brought my Kali LP6s out of storage and set them up and I could finish all the songs in a few hours - because suddenly I could just everything so much better. I’m really interested in upgrading to the IN8 v2 though, because of the hiss that no one really enjoys.

    Very glad to hear they improved the hiss and removed that class D standby mode. I think you could still switch it back on by unscrewing the backside and re-seating the jumper, (wished they made a button outside, though) but still I prefer the default state to NOT be the one with standby, so that's definitely a plus.

    Great video!!! I'm super interested in this 3-way in a 2-way sized package. Do they have any static when they're turned off? I had a pair of Kali LP-6's and they have a pretty loud noise floor unfortunately :/ 1 thing I noticed is around 1:50 when you mention that low end isn't directional: It's true that we perceive low frequencies in a different way than high end but it's more of a biological thing really. Low frequencies still have a lot of direction to them though so it does matter! Low frequencies bounce off of walls more and have longer waveforms so they are usually the problem in small home studios and that's why people usually recommend bass traps, so you can better hear the original sound source instead of all the reflections bouncing back to your ears.

    Hi Will, first of all I wanted to thank you for your videos, they add great value to the community here on youtube. I have tried the Kali IN-8 speakers and found them to be very well balanced across the frequency spectrum. I did experience one annoying problem above 85db SPL between 200/400hz. In that area there is a noise coming from the coaxial cone, a noise I believe due to the clash between the cone and the tweeter. I would like to ask you if you also using a sine wave at 200/400hz at a volume equal to or greater than 85dbSPL were experiencing this annoying noise. Thank you for your work!

My concern is mixing and later mastering mainly house music and most of it has vocals, also a more tech house /dub instrumental tracks. Would you recommend the IN-5 for this genre of music? Keep in mind that electronic music have a lot of sounds that intertwining with the rhythmic & bass foundation lot of panning and placed sounds so the wide stereo image is a must and of course the tight bass and a good cross over upper mid /high range. I sit pretty close to my monitors (about a meter away) and it is considered a nearfield scenario. however, in-8 seem like a choice for those who work pretty far from their sound source. IN-5 should be a nobrainer for me, but I just can't stop thinking about low frequencies being created more clearly from a bigger speaker, and the fact that they don't need this much energy to move seems more promising. The way class-D amplifiers work is a bit tricky, the dsp is only controlling the behaviour of the amplifier, the audio signal however is NOT converted from analog to digital. If it was, you can bet they would have included digital inputs and based some of the marketing on it as well.

  • @dingdong2103

    @dingdong2103

    The audio signal is 100% surely converted from analog to digital if DSP is used. However you're correct that class-d does not mean digital, it means a switching amplifier that runs at much higher efficiency. It's totally feasible that the "dsp" of the speakers is simply an analog EQ

    Most speakers can't be placed sideways like this because they have cancellation lobes and narrow dispersion... Try listening to your monitors while standing or sitting on the floor. Hey dude, great studio. I got a huge doubt though? I see you've choose a horizontal monitor placement. I bumped across your video to check on the horizontal vs vertical placement for myself as I have the LP6's. My doubt is that you have positioned the monitor's bass tubes facing outwards. Isn't that killing their design purpose of the 3D Imaging waveguide? Throughout my experience I have learnt that Music with Bass freq is quite/always centered? with your positional choice, the bass tubes are on the stereo side which would thus create a false stereo image, quite opposite to what I have learnt, so please kindly help clarify 😅. Shouldn't the bass tubes be facing inward to the center and the tweeter be facing on the outside left and right? Anyway, great things to learn and explore, cheers for the video 👍
