Wow 1 hour ago and I clicked this video by accident. Honestly for me it's hard to know what to believe. I do remember hearing that this guy was racist af, but I don't remember actually seeing anything he said/posted. His apology seems honest, but it's a bit weird that he decided to wait so long to post it. I also don't know almost anything about soviet union culture/society so I can't comment on that. We can't know if he's really sorry, or he's just trying to clean his name What I am pretty certain about is that he's probably not doing too well. No doubt the negative pr he brought upon himself hurt sales, and now with the stupid war making things worse for everyone, well he probably wasn't in a great position in the first place.

If memory serves he was in a discord chat with his buddies and they were talking about a guy who apparently didn't like his product or him in general and so he joked about sending anthrax. if you take into account eastern europeans and their very dry, barebones humor and couple that with the fact he definitely didn't send anthrax then it definitely seems like it was just a joke. i'll try and find that pic in the meantime.

@@Creeper99PL He made reference to the fact that the review called the Verum 1's 'poison for the market' due to there low cost per performance and so the creator responded that he would make the Verum 2's 'anthrax' and send them to the reviewer as well, to 'see if he was immune'. The joke is in poor taste and has been weened out of context slightly but I'm no sure it's what I would call a viable threat.

I, for one, am grateful cuz I knew I watched this video but couldn't find it anymore and just as some other comment here I've been thinking it was the Meze's for some time now. Which would be less of a problem if that didn't mean I was attributing Meze with all the awful stuff the comments said the creator of this one did. So thanks, now I can be at peace with the Meze videos of Dankpod because it was just me being wrong about which good quality headphones from a lesser known place were the ones with the questionable (being charitable there) origin.

The other part of why headphones need more power is Sensitivity, because Ohms are only 1 part of the equation. Sensitivity is measured in dB/mW. I know that 70 is really low and insensitive, and something like 100 is more common or so. Also, Audeze is kinda hated as well by a lot of people; their technical detailing is amazing, but the tuning is awful. They always put a huge hole in the upper mids (like around 4k-5k Hz), and boost the lower mids (around 1k Hz) until they sound "honky". Just look at the graphs, you'll see what I mean.

planar headphones tend to have pretty high sensitivity, I can drive my LCD-X just fine with any normal device. I have to say, they dont sound amazing to me. A bit harsh in the mids and thin in the bass. But I got used to it and they have been helping me through music production since, they are my go to tool when I want to listen to something "up close" and hear all the details. Otherwise, they are stupidly heavy and expensive. I dont think I would get worse results with some beyerdynamic headphones at about a fifth the price.

Power is literally just P=U*I, Voltage x Current. And with Ohms law U=R*I (or I=U/R) you can change the first equation to P =R*I² or P=U²/R. And none of these is Sensitivity. If you have headphones with a given Resistance (R) and you want to put out the rated power where they work, you only need to supply the right voltages. Sensitivity itself has nothing to do with the Power and Resistance, possibly just how much power it can output before falling apart.

@@Daniel-dj7fh That is a gross misunderstanding of the relationship between headphone amd amp. Sensitivity tells you how much power the headphones need. Impedance doesnt tell you much at all without also knowing sensitivity. Impedance needs to be within the amps specifications, so the amp can operate linearly and efficiently. Transistor amps are pretty forgiving when it comes to impedance, they only really go quieter with higher impedance. Tube amps however dont do well with low impedance headphones. Ohms law itself doesnt help you here, you need four pole analysis to get useful results.

For those wondering why Wade took this video down, it's simple: The guy who made the headphones apparently has some controversial behavior, from threatening a critic with anthrax and apparently was homophobic and racist. Wade/Dank (to placate those who are whining over me using his name) instead unlisted the video before removing it entirely . It's pinned I know, but I also decided to clarify too.

I actually saw this when released and never realized it was deleted until someone reposted it. Guess this is round 2 then!

A theory of mine is that the vid got taken down because the guy making the headphones didn't want to receive a sudden spike in orders, maybe he would've needed to create some sort of company before handling such big numbers idk Edit: after seeing the replies, I've concluded that there is also another answer. dank didn't want to get into any drama due to Garupsik (guy that made the Verums) seeing them and leading to some sort of chaos, so the video getting deleted now has a better reason to have perished from his channel, I guess

Mail: Tommunism For anyone wondering why this video was set to unlisted/deleted, here's the pinned comment on the video when he unlisted it: "Yup it's unlisted. I thought I did my research but many people have reached out to me about the controversy. I certainly don't support that line of thinking no matter how good the product, we all on this planet together. It's a real shame as I really do love these headphones but there are more important things than material goods. Sorry for not being vigilant everyone." To sum up the controversy, basically this dude, commonly known online as Garupsik, did a lot of batshit crazy and unprofessional things, including: posting a lot of racist stuff, blamed it on an intern, kept doing it, and threatening to send anthrax to someone who gave him a bad review.

I've read the guy's apology, and my experience with friends from former Soviet countries is that they have absolutely no frame of reference to understand America's racist history, and assume it's similar to marginalized groups like the Roma people that they are familiar with, which is backed up by our own racist stereotypes. But these are very different groups if you know more about the history of the groups. I'm native, and frequently deal with people who think that we are extinct, that we were primitive when contacted by Europeans, or a number of other tropes, and most people are receptive to being given additional context and knowledge that changes their entire understanding. And that's great! People should be open to changing their opinions based on things they learn. So I think that Igor's apology is indeed genuine, and his reasoning for why he felt the way he felt seems sincere - if you have no clue whatsoever about Jim Crow or any of the things being done in the past several years to disenfranchise voters of color, then I could see how he would think it's "comical". It's not my place to forgive him, of course, but if this were instead over Standing Rock or the Wet'suwet'en First Nation asserting their treaty rights up in Canada, and with additional information, he realized he was in the wrong, I would 100% believe him based on how he wrote this.

The resistance change being very stable in most planar headphones makes it so you need a lot of current to get a good volume and sound reproduction

It depends what power the headphones are supposed to run at. with P=U*I or = U²/R or = R*I² (P Power, U Voltage, R Resistance and I Current). You can kinda easily calculate what you need if you have 2 variables whcih are usually the resistance ("impedance") and power.

The Creator of these headphones maybe problematic but then again Apple is problematic. People don't stop buying Apple Products because some people actually committed suicide due to the chemicals being used in the manufacturing process of some of their products. Lots of people still have iphones if one was to trace the history of every product you find shady dark corners in almost every single company out there. Plus the guys apologised and has moved on ideologically. Redemption is a very important human quality. This is the power of the market. It can break down social and racial stereotypes.

People see a bad thing and it consumes their entire perspective, but what they _should_ do is take a step back and see how it compares on a larger stage, like you did when you compared them to Apple.

Hope the pinned comment and video help spread some knowledge on these, seems the creator learned from his mistakes and was somewhat unjustly attacked for some issues not really his fault.

@@p020z5 To make a better and cleaner picture I think. It's not a live video recording. he does that off camera and records just audio coming from these ears. Whenever he plays that audio recording, the picture of the correct headphones is displayed. It's funny that Wade recognizes that heaphones look better without all of these stupid wires, given that he one of the remaining popular advocates, for bringing back the ancient headphone jack to the phones.

man i wish i didnt miss (skipped watching due to my feelings on the world at the time) the old video so this made more sense to post... for anyone wondering, the reason these run at so little power is because they are a different technology. it takes a lot more relative power to move a whole magnet with a coil than it is to run a simple electromagnet directly and let it shake the coil (copper waves on the mesh) i’m severely simplifying it and it is incredibly impressive the guys got it down that low, but nonetheless thats the basic reasoning

What do you mean he is taking advantage of the current situation for his own profits? He (roughly) said: 'Thank you for offering to donate to me, I don't need any many, the Ukrainian Army needs it much more.' And linked to the website of the National Bank of Ukraine where they opened a "Special Account to Raise Funds for Ukraine's Armed Forces", and attached an image that shows he has donated to them. The link in the pinned comment literally stands in complete opposition to what you're saying. Which would make me very interested in seeing the other "proof" you're mentioning.

@@bravado2809 That's what happens when you look at it on the surface level, but if you think about it critically it's completely different story. Here's what would happen if he was genuine about what his linked post say: 1. He would send the post you quoted as the content of his email. 2. He wouldn't worry about his past reputation as it has NOTHING to do with the ukraine war 3. He wouldn't link off to his business site, as there was no need 4. He wouldn't plug his yt channel as well 5. He wouldn't brag about his donation But no instead he made it about himself, trying to fix his reputation, so more people would buy his product and he made the "fight for ukraine" only a small footnote in the email that he sent, which is in the pinned comment. meanwhile he advertises his website and also plugs his yt channel

I think that the LCD2's sound better somehow, the bass sounds deeper somehow in comparison to the others. But it could be the whole Dac thing boosting the thing.

I think it's the DAC bossting the LCD-2 too, when I went out to the store and try out the LCD lineup, I remembered it doesn't have that deep bass...

I still want some planner magnetic headphones I was told by people whom love the sound signature of their Sennheiser headphones that it’s nothing to write honestly about but I want to hear some headphones with true center

This isn't on DankPods compilation vids right? Unlike the Kanye Stem nugget. -Also got an idea what the After Show for this vid was?- EDIT: Scratch the questions. I did some digging on the DankPods subreddit and realized I had forgotten he uploaded 2 vids at the time (aside from the After Show). The other one was the "I got some in ear monitors." with the After Show being "After Show: The Nugget Realm Tour.". They were uploaded back in February 12, 2021.

I hope that the guy in Ukraine is safe with Russia being a bully and all that. I don't think they'll invite the whole country, just take over the break-away states that are on their border with Ukraine, but you never know

@@lukkan99 if you think russia has a more robust natsec disinfo blob than the US, you're delusional. I'm an Ohioan. I've lived here all my life and I don't have any ties to Russia. It's funny that I even have to say that. I just despise the military industrial complex and know that the US is the greatest aggressor in the world. What Russia is doing in Ukraine right now is less than what we did when we provided aid to the Ukrainian nationalists to stage a coup. And at least Ukraine is on Russia's border, so they have some reason to be involved. We get up in the business of countries that 90% of Americans can't place on a map. None of this is relevant to our lives. It doesn't affect us. NATO was never supposed to expand so far east anyway; it's not our problem. Where were the condemnations when we funded "rebels" in Syria and then put boots on the ground to support them against a government we didn't like? If you're upset about Russia you should be 10000x more upset with America, and if you're upset with America then you realize that Russia is then greatest roadblock to America's imperialistic aims. Simple as that.

Dankpods shouldn’t have unlisted this video, sure maybe the guy said some heinous things but regardless his product is the best chance you have of being able to afford something nice. I’d rather a naughty man make a good device normal people usually couldn’t afford. I think the accessibility of it trumps whatever the man said. I bought my Verum 1 a year ago and it took three months to arrive. The cable seems pretty cheap but the headphones are fantastic and sound miles better than anything else I own.

Yeah theres the past stuff he did, which he denied in his non-apology, but but more importantly look at what he is doing now... he is taking the advantage of the current situation(you know innocent people dying for no reason) to promote his business... just read the pinned comment. @@beardsntools Sensitivity is a luxury only the rich can afford. As for me, magnetic planar headphones would have been 3x out of my price range until Dank made me aware of it. Despite what you say about how awful he is, he made a rich boi toy accessible to those who could never afford to drop $1100 on headphones. That’s not just a good thing, that’s a good _deed,_ but everyone seems far more concerned with taking offense for what he’s said rather than what he’s done. Besides, your other headphone options in that price range are typically sweatshop-manufactured in China. You really think that’s a moral victory? I don’t.

​@@lastfirst5863 Well I said I don't mind if you got these headphones, but it's worth mentioning that audiophiles have choices and nothing that they deem as "good" is manufactured in china anyway. My point wasn't to convince individuals to not buy from this guy, my point was that dankpods and others made the right call to stop giving him free advertising, especially since this guy has proven just now that he hasn't changed. It's also worth mentioning that it's usually "you get what you pay for". If comparable headphones are normally 1100 and these are 350 then that means cost cutting. Dankpods already mentioned two methods, but for the rest the time will probably tell. Also the pair the guy shipped to reviewers might be of higher quality, than the pairs he ships to people who actually buy them after they see such positive reviews.. it wouldn't be the first time that has happened.. even huge companies (i think it was samsung) are guilty of that with their ssds for example

If you know of any others by all means let us know, because it does me no good to tell me I have choices when I don’t see anything along the same price range that doesn’t come with it’s own moral qualms.
