    Great footage, as usual i would say. Your videos are top notch. And great riding with the UFO. You’ve got your heel side tacks really dialled and the foot switch are killer after the 180’s. Just a comment on the UFO. You should not fear to drop the kite in the water even in dying wind. I ride the Clouds (since 2014) for surfkiting and foiling (90% of my sessions) and they are by far the easiest kites to relaunch compared to any other strut kite I tried along the years. And by the look of it, UFO seems very similar to my Clouds in shape and handling. Cheers for the video.

    These kites are easily relauchable in the water in light wind though.. Scenario 1: kite falls and you have the board. The trick is to swim slowly toward the kite so the water rolls of the trailing edge, kite fills with air and super easy to reverse launch.. it takes a bit of practice. Scenario 2: Kite down and lose the board. If you try to swim upwind with the kite down and canopy is in the water, the canopy will act as underwater parachute. You can, swim without the board toward the kite and relaunch or climb front lines, grab one front line to spin the kite around, dumps water and allows you to swim to your board. Done it before.. This is all learning to fly my strutless 17m cloud in 6-7knots.. very marginal conditions.

    I have to agree with sam this kite is great for beginners. I like to call it dummy proof because it just will sit up there in barely any wind and it’s really hard to backstall. Where normal kites with struts you constantly have to baby sit them in light winds.

    have you tried the flysurfer peak 4? Its even lighter than the UFO and can fly nicely from 2-3 knots. I was able to ride in 4-5 knots with 8m²! Well, only works with the wingfoilboard with 75L and a big foil. Most impressive is the drift, even in 4 knots the kite drops only a little when jibing downwind, with 8 knots or higher the kite won't drop or loose much line tension even when going straight downwind, although thats probably depending on the foil speed. With a faster foil it might drop when you are going faster downwing than the real wind. Its the perfect kite for foil surfing in the waves, with a big surffoil. Only downside is its a bit hard to relaunch, but in 4 knots most tubekites dont relaunch either when they are wet, and the peak just doesn't want to go down in wind higher than 2 knots. You would have to steer it down to crash it. I had a chance to fly the UFO in 2.5-3 knots on a grass field when it wasnt enough for the water, and surprisingly it could stay up, but you had to keep it moving carefully in the middle of power zone all the time. The peak is a bit easier there, even staying at the edge of the windwindow.. When comparing the Peak 4 8m² to the UFO 9m², the UFO was faster flying and turning though

    Hi, You have tried the UFO 9 vs Peak 4 right? Whats ur final desission? I am asking me which kite to go for. Thx

  • @rocco1274

    @rocco1274

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@blablibfulI tried the UFO only with 3 knots on land, not on the water. I bought the whole range of Peak 4, for snowkiting and Foiling, and I really like them. But there are some considerations to do, as the Peak wont be as easily relaunchable once it drops in the water. If you are a good kiter, and know how to keep up a kite in very low wind, this wont be much of a problem, as the peak makes it very easy to keep it up in even very light wind, down to 3 knots. The UFO needs probably more like 4-5 knots to stay equally good up in the sky. So even if the wind drops, the peak will stay up and you can bodydrag back to the beach. But if you crash often or dont have good kite control, you might crash the kite often, in which case a peak might get annoying with bad relaunchability. Also it very much depends on your foilboard, if you only have a small foil / low volume board, you will need a bit more wind anyway, in which case the UFO will stay up as good as the peak. In summary, the Peak is good for extremely light wind foiling, perfect in combination with a big foil and for even lower wind start in combo with a big board, so with a Wingboard with 75L and 1600cm² Foil I could foil easily at 4 knots with the 8m² Peak. With a friends foil with 1800cm² and a 20L Board it was a bit more struggle to get started and needed more like 5-6 knots for easy starting. But even in 4 knots the peak stays up easily even when standing still, no frantic moving the kite around to keep it in the air. And it feels like it has 3-4 m² more or almost double than its actual size. Thats why my biggest Peak is 8m², with a smaller Board/Foil the 11m² might work too, but the 13m² is definetely too big/gets overpowered quickly and probably becomes too slow and slowturning, the 11m² might also be quite slow already. Also the peak is super compact when travelling and quite cheap. The easy self launch and landing on land and no pumping is quite nice! And the drift when riding on a wave or just doing jibes on a foil is genius, most tubekites completely drop when going downwind in low wind, but the Peak stays up, even handsoff. For the downsides; the peak isnt that fast, so it doesnt work good with a fast foil (which most probably wouldnt work in super light wind anyway), it doesnt work as good with a twintip as the upwind performance isnt that good there, and it has very low to no lift for jumping. Tricky to relaunch (but it wont drop and in 3 knots no wet kite wants to fly) (In 15 knots I got the 3m² Peak relaunched easily, but had to walk/ swim to it to get it into position). Also in stronger Wind the Peak can feel overpowered quickly, or rather, it starts to flap alot. You can depower the peak alot, but it will flap. I like to fly the peak without flapping, so I fly it always a bit powered, and when the wind gets stronger I want to take a smaller size. So the windrange feels a bit smaller towards the upper limit compared to tubekites if you dont want flapping. About the UFO I have to speculate a bit as I flown it only shortly, but I also have experience with other light tubekites, mainly the naish Boxer. The UFO flies and turns faster and probably will work alot better with a twintip as well as for jumping with the foil, it probably starts to be fun at 6-8 knots depending on your skills and board/foil and might work down to 4-5, but at 3-4 knots you will most likely drop it when swimming in the water. But it will probably have a bit more range towards stronger wind/ feel more stable when overpowered.The drift will be better than all onestrut tubekites, and much better than threestrut kites, but not as good as the Peak. Easier and quicker relaunch when the wind is above 6-8 knots depending on your skills. The bag is a bit bigger, and you have to pump it up and need an assistand on land, like with all tubekites. You probably know the pricetag better than me, but probably a bit more expensive than peaks. So I think the UFO is a good alround Foilkite, nice for beginners and works for jumping and twintip, but needs slightly more wind. If you are experienced and want to go super lightwind / wavefoiling with a surffoil and maybe landkiting with a skateboard/ mountainboard or snowkiting, take the peaks. Also perfect for lightweight airplane travel.

    This sure looks like a Slingshot advertorial. It should be labeled accordingly. I SOLD my UFO and moved to Board Riding Maui Cloud kites. I find the Clouds are lighter, easier and quicker to initiate turning, and easier to control for playful freeride foiling with lots and lots of turns. The UFO is an excellent kite. I had a 7m and have ridden the 5m and 9m. I went back and forth for a couple of months riding about 4 days/week switching between the UFOs and Board Riding Maui Clouds that a friend let me use. UFO pros: For a given size I think they generate more power when you send it. Canopy flutters less than the Cloud canopy. Cloud 8, 6.2, and 4.8m pros (I now have the 8 and 6.2 and have ridden the 4.8m): They initiate turns almost instinctively and deliver more consistent power. I definitely crash less with the Clouds and love doing turns with them. Note: I have no financial relationship with either kite company.

    « Foil kite » refers to the tubeless technology, without need to inflate the Leading Edge with a pump!🤓 I would name your kite a Strutless LEI, not a Foil kite!. 😇 Obviously both may be used with foil boards, which may lead to confusion! Tubeless kites would fly from 5kts🤗 Despite this swap in the title your « Strutless kite » looks good and performing and your vid is nice😎

    The comments talk more about the drone video work than the kite which tells you how uninspiring the kite is. It must have taken the graphic designer a couple of minutes to think about 2/3rd to I/3rd colour scheme and in black. Not visible if the wind died. Naish Boxer is a better all round kite.
