Iv`e had my carista obd2 reader for 3 years ,saved me a fortune in diagnostics ,iiv` tried others before and they just don`t compare to carista, I highly recommend this company

Sounds like clutch bearing gone so going to need complete clutch and maybe gear selector might need repairing but got a bargain there for only £250 can't wait to see what you got planned for this

that 5 cylinder golf would have been class for the channel icl, maybe next?

I'd source a complete gearbox from a breaking mini, swap them out, would be able to get one second hand for around 200!

That’s the Clutch & flywheel making that noise, has the same on my old 3 series, clutch replacement and it stopped

U can drive a manual car without a clutch but I wouldn’t recommend it, the shifter doesn’t go to centre because the spring in the gear box has gone bad but it’s super easy to fix and it’s not a massive issue

Nice car! They are good fun to drive. Easy fix! It Does sound like clutch/fork is broken. Have a look at modmini videos. You will manage on the drive. Also check brake fluid level as clutch line is above the calliper lines so can cause issues with the slave cylinder.

U should definitely do a rear seat delete on this, it would transform it

These Mini's seem to be cracking value for the money, a really nice car, fresh looking interior, crazy you can pick these up for £1200 odd 🙌

sounds like the release bearing has shat itself, but your gonna have to pull the box out to fully know the issue

Bro once u have fixed it if it’s not crazy high mileage you could sell it for £2.5k trust

The 1.6 BMW engine 🤢about as reliable as a chocolate teapot lol, Mini this age is gonna have a ton of problems so its gonna be fun to watch mate.

@@TheOtherStuff I only know as i looked into a BMW 1 series for myself and every mechanic i asked told me to stay away from the 1.6 engines and get the new 1.5 engines, from what i was told they suffer massively with timing chain problems and oil leaks and problems with power steering, i do like the minis though and it will be interesting content but i would go over the basics like the chain and make sure its all fine before going further with it as a chain replacement will cost more than you paid for car lmao.

The engine in that r52 is bulletproof Mike don’t worry. OP is talking about the 1.6 prince engines that are in the gen 2 minis. Gearboxes are what are prone to going on these r50-r53 gen 1 cars

Correct it’s a tritec engine and apart from coolant leaked there very very hardy

Hi Michael. I was wondering if there are any particular products you recommend using for removing stubborn stains and marks from car seats?

hey, I also bought a mini last month - would be down to work together on something, just got done replacing rocker cover & the signal receiver - tonnes of more problems to go! :'(

Them stiff gearstick is normal Mine was alot worse i just hosed it with wd40 under gearknob But the clutch change is complete front end off and loads undernearth I would check the rear lower arm bushes at front end as pretty much the whole front end has to come off just to change them

Aside from being over 120k miles and whatever the issues are as I'm commenting mid video you have actually got a decent car. It's 19 years old, but mot only shows brakes as an advisory, so while it's out of mot now that is pretty good. I'm looking for a mini, but not an 05 unless it's the supercharged one, but alot of the first generation minis suffer subframe corrosion more than the later ones which I see alot have marked down as an advisory. My mum had an 03 cooper and cost over 600 to sort stuff like that out, so it's definitely not something buyers should overlook. I'm not a green fan, but the British racing green has always been a eally nice choice and the matching green roof isn't too bad either. Also what I wish mini kept was the boonet design as the next ones all look like that have a surround rather than free access like this one. 2nd gen onwards look more difficult to work on.

Thank you for the comment mate, I'll take a look at the release bearing today when I strip the car apart, and i'll try and source a gear selector and see if that loosens things up!!!!!

Removing clutch the hardest but also better way due to being able to inspect things is to remove the front bumper drop the whole front subframe with rack and power steering reservoir then remove gearbox The other way is you remove and jam the subframe down at one side and do it with the gearbox out and sitting on the subframe but access is very very restricted 😅

Plug a obd into the car to read the codes, should of bought a corsa and modified it

I currently have 3 r50s and trust me it's gonna be a love hate relationship think I've replaced nearly everything on my daily 🤣

i noticed when driving my dads old mini that the gear stick didnt move to neutral by itself. no clue tho

press clutch makes noise its the thrust bearing and it kills the clutch housing it will die very soon so you will need full clutch kit any blue on flywheel or play you need a new flywheel

There was an 06 cooper S convertible in Swindon the other day, supercharged model, under 80k miles and had mot, was up for 3200. Someone nabbed it as I went to look 😂, so I wouldn't buy a supercharger setup when the S models of first gen are so cheap.

I had one of these minis for 5 years and I used to kick it’s teeth in it had 158k when i gave it up lol I have also had the joy of doing a few clutches on them as a mechanic and let me tell you mickey boy there a fuckin disaster lol

@TheOtherStuff tbh having had an R52 cooper and also an r53 hatch. The r52 is less prone to issues, long gearing and can get quite good mpg out of them on a run (40+)
