Oh Goodness! I am so happy you posted this! You have no idea how much your words mean to me. After 22 years living single in my home I'm moving in 30 days to a much smaller home in the next town over and I've been vacillating between excitement, fear, sadness (for leaving my home and yard), gratefulness and then back again! I'm not sleeping much b/c I'm trying to organize every aspect of the move (a bit ocd, too, I guess) in my mind. Your words of encouragement about your eleven days are exactly what I needed to hear and I'll be watching many times in the next 30 days until I find myself on the other side of this challenging adventure, too!

@@LittlePoet I think Tom Petty had it right: The waiting is the hardest part! I had my current home built after a divorce so the home and yard became my sublime space. I am 99% sure this downsizing move will be good for me and it's what I need as I turn 55 (right about the same time as my closing date), but I have loved this place so much it's hard to let go and imagine myself somewhere else. I pray I find someone to love my current home and feed the bluejays, buntings, cardinals, and squirrels! Please keep posting vids of your 'settling in' process! You have no idea how many women you are helping and mentoring by your example. PS: Google Maps shows FOUR thrift stores within a few miles of my new place! :)

Hubby and I left a house we built in '90 ~ beautiful wooded lot, just under an acre ~ with plenty of space for our family. Now all three kids' families are located in the SW area of our state, so we made the leap to move & downsize! Not easy and yet so joyful to be near all the kids, six grandsons, as well as our six day old granddaughter! It's a new season and lots of adjustments for our late sixties! :)!! Praying for all to go well with you, a smooth process, and your mind to be at ease. Be encouraged ~ best wishes and hugs to you! ~ Susan

I was thinking the exact same thing! Why was I born without this decorating sense, I wonder? If I go to the thrift store, I can only see the junk and cannot pick out the treasures. I don't know why but the things I choose do not flow and it turns into a random mess, LOL. Oh well, at least my daughter seems to have the artistic eye!

Well! This is what a home should look like. Warm, personal, cozy and beautiful. Not grey, black and white like so many homes and apartments are these days.

Home is where your heart is. Smaller means less to fuss over and care for. It means you can see your things and enjoy them more. Who needs the latest decor? It is outdated in no time. to enjoy what you need, use, and love having around you is wonderful. I lost my husband of 54 years and I am staying in our home. It luckily is small and it brings warm memories. Having some nature around us is so important to our well being.

I've downsized twice and am now in an apartment with my ex-husband. Due to the economy. I am a little jealous you have your own nest, but you inspired me tonight to do what I can with the situation I am in. You are like finding a sweet friend! God bless you!

I'm so happy for you! Your smaller apartment was so charming that I couldn't imagine another apartment being as nice. The larger apartment gives you and your lovely treasures room to breathe. You have such a talent for arranging items without having them look cluttered. I've been in a rut since I retired (for the third time) in June, at age 69, after 44 years as an RN. You have inspired me to get off the sofa, stop being lazy, and get my life back in gear. I need to listen to beautiful music and turn on some twinkle lights!

So sweet and beautiful. I have a three bedroom home packed to the gills, I love all my treasures. I have a bedroom set that came off a ship, I wish I had keep the freight ticket. I’ve had it for almost sixty years. My x made me paint it. After my divorce my mother and I sanded it and my dad took out his compressed and sprayed it off white. It looks beautiful. I made porcelain dolls years ago, they are all over my house. Some people walk in and say oh creepy dolls, but I love them. Do as you feel in your decorating. It is all yours. God has given you all that you have so enjoy and be thankful. Don’t forget to thank God everyday for the ups and downs of your life, it was meant to be yours.✝️💞🕊

I have read through many comments and I have to agree, you, my dear, seem like one of the warmest, kindest, loveliest of people. You have a natural flair with interior decor, your place is wonderful. Dear Susan and Desi, I only just found you a couple of days ago and feel like I’ve made new friends! I will be 60 at the end of this year. My marriage fell apart 10 years ago and last year I lost my mother to leukemia (at 90) after being her carer for 10 yrs. My 2 girls are in their 20’s and I have one that’s moved in since COVID earlier this year (I’m in Australia). I’ve downsized too but can’t get a hold on life at the moment. I’m not going to bore you with all the whys and wherefores however I’m so grateful for your uplifting videos! I simply LOVE your new home (and your last) and your decorating style. You’ve done amazingly well to restore your life and I SO admire that. You are truly an inspiration! Please let me know how you manage to hang all your beautiful artwork. I’m too afraid to bang holes in my walls or to just not have enough strength to hold something. And did you have to do a big patch up job on your last apartment walls? Blessings, Kate

Just a note, you should turn your hangers around so that they are over the rod from the front. If there is a fire and you have to grab them in a hurry they will not come off the rod easily the way you have them. Love the new place.

OH my Lord.....this is so beautiful...I burtt out crying when I read it...I found out I was moving 13 days before the movers came...and I said to myself..." good...it will be quick and I won't have too much time to think about it all...I won't have time to cry"

Absolutely stunningly beautiful! Wow your new place is fantastic, so warm, cozy yet spacious, serene, relaxing yet surrounded by the feeling of romance and poetry, it's majestic. The large credenza in the hallway is a show stopper piece, so worth the effort to move it. I can see the smile on Desi's face, he is thrilled. The deer and view, all that nature and wildlife, it's like living in a painting, you deserve this peace of heaven on earth with everything you have weathered. So happy for you, life feels right when good things happen for good people.

I am 63 just me and my little 6 pound poodle named Izzy. I’m very content with my life at this time. I retired about 1 1/2 years ago and I’m a homebody so I’m loving it. I myself am divorced a single mom of 2 kids and they are now older and established. 4 years ago I had a serious injury that I lost everything. I had to move in with my daughter. And I just want to say thank you so much. The time you put into these videos and things that you have to say just give me a renewed excitement for life again. I'm so happy for you! Thank you for the tour. I can't imagine how you fit all that furniture and art in your old apartment, but it fills this one nicely. Seeing the deer outside your balcony brought a tear to my eye. My ex and I used to live in 5 acres of woods on the Flint River in the thumb of Michigan and we saw deer all the time. You don't see them in the part of Texas that I live in now (Dallas area). You are so lucky to have found an apartment with so many big windows with such views! You have decorated it beautifully, as I knew you would. PS......At our age, old boyfriends are too old to help you move, even if they wanted to. LOL You'd probably spend the day in the emergency room instead of moving. I'm glad you hired someone. That's what I did last time I moved too.

Dear Susan, my heart swells with love for you, as you move forward now in a new home of such delights The balcony is fabulous for you an Desi , oh my gosh to see the deer took my breath away. Susan to share with you, When my husband of 53yrs an myself retired we bought a small raised cottage(Ontario Canada) With a wrap around deck, the property was beautiful as completely surrounded with Mature Maple 🍁 trees, also Sumac an cedar an backed into a conservation area, our lot was 100 X150 ft ..my husband established his vegetable 🌽 plot An I had my own little flower bed at the front garden , mostly was laid to lawn with a sweeping driveway. We were so happy As also had beamed ceilings an a great old fashioned wood stove right in the living room. 20yrs later my beloved husband died of cancer, I had to decide to move as my road was a consession road that lead to the lake Simco shores I could never walk to anywhere without a drive . I was In Grief an decided to move to Vancouver to an apartment , I felt like my world had ended, as I was now a senior an never ever lived in an apartment, I am fortunate as I have my family Here in BC, an like yourself I was fortunate to find my perfect little 2bedroom flat with my balcony surrounded by 7mature Cherry-blossom trees Plus an eco friendly lily pond an bird island within my view from my balcony. I love my balcony and count my blessings for the courage It took to leave my special cottage home behind. (best decision I ever made on my own ) I hope like yourself my story shall help someone in similar circumstances Prayers 🕊 went a long way in helping me over the hurdles. Meantime Susan you are a wonderful inspiration in my life Your gentle spirit resonates within my soul amen Mary Canada 🇨🇦

There were so many beautiful things in her new home, but just like you, my eyes immediately went to her shower curtain! It is gorgeous! I wonder where she found it? I don't remember seeing a link for it.

Beautiful! roomy, very charming, I have a feeling that you would create beauty no matter where you live. I’m sure you chose the location with care because you have nature just outside your door. May you have everything you hope for 💟

Please be careful that Desi doesn't jump in the chair's and get up on the rails and fall or jump off! Just thinking because that's what my babies would do!!! Love you're new home and this is the second time I have watched this, beautiful.

"I needed a hero, so that's what I became" is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard. I appreciate your bravery and kind spirit more than you'll ever know. I have lost so many family members, and when I learned yesterday that my amazing sister-in-law who has metastatic breast cancer was placed in hospice I felt so helpless and alone. I say this only because I needed something or someone to bring me some sense of peace, and you gave that to me. Love is what matters most, and you've shown that by allowing us to view a bit of your life with honesty. Thank you for giving me a reason to believe there is still goodness and hope in this world. And, I love your new home...and wish you great happiness!

Love the apartment, it’s beautiful ! A bath and a half is awesome! Gosh, I have missed you three weeks! Good to see your smile and soothing voice again and of course the adorable Desi.

I’m re-watching some of ur videos, because u always give me hope and peace. It came to my mind when u mention that every day is important, the truth inside those words. Every day is one and unique and can’t be repeated, so we must be aware of every view, every creature, every object… every breath we take. It’s all irrepeatable…God bless you, Susan!

I am in Southeastern Michigan. I am living on my own for the last 6 years in a one bedroom Apartment in a Senior Apartment Community ( Non subsidized) for 62 and over. The first night just being alone was heaven. Quiet, peaceful. Mine. My daughters make sure that my shopping trips are done on my schedule. 8 granddaughters and 8 great granddaughters plus the male grandson in laws and my stepson and son-in-law make sure I am comfortable. I no longer work but keep busy. Winter in MI is always cold and changeable on a dime. I need to thrift where you do, wow, the things you fine. I love your new home. I am still decorating and getting rid of things. You are my girl!! I love your bathroom decor!! Enjoy your new home.

Oh, Susan, I found myself smiling all the way through out your home tour! What a lovely space and so much room for you and the DEZ! I am SO happy for you to have more room to display all your fantastic art and figurines. My favorite is the blue and white butterfly design chair in the living room. Susan, my husband and I are empty nesters, I feel very lonely in this huge house, I live in Florida, not to far from the beach and I've always had regular contemporary furniture but I've always wanted to have a home that looks like a beach cottage in every room, white, wicker, shells, you get my drift, like the gorgeous motel and expensive hotel rooms here in Florida. no one ever comes over here, but on the few occasions that someone drops by it would be nice to have a beach cottage , Florida home. I'm going to try, you've really inspired me and gave me something to occupy my time and make me feel happy again. thank you Susan for always having such comforting words just when I really needed it. hi desi
