Yeah, the discomfort i think comes from how otherwise normal he is. Dio and Kars were pretty much cartoonish in how extra and villainous they were, in fact, if they had the idea to wear around a necklace written "EVIL" in neon letters, they would. Kira, in contrast, could be literally anyone.

I think the things that make kira great are that he feels like a subversion of all the usual big bad shonen villain tropes and thus he feels refreshing ad unqiue. he's also while on the surface level normal seeming, is also genuinely weird and insane. Dude goes on dates with his victim's hands and sees no issue with it.

I love Kira's creepy piano theme so much.

By the way, the scene where Kira presents himself cannot be an American Psycho reference because the movie was released in 2000 and the manga version of the part 4 of JOJO was released between 1992 and 1995. I know that the story is supposed to take place in 1999 but I can assure you that it is true.

@@DrunkenCoward1 The first translation to Japanese was in 1992, after searching for it in Japanese, Kadokawa notes the release date as December 18, 1992. While DiU started on May 4, 1992, judging by that Kira did not make his first appearance until November 1993 (the Anime adds scenes with him earlier, but remember that those were not in the Manga, his first ever appearance is during what episode 17 is based around, that is Chapter 334 of JoJo), it is pretty much taken that Araki read the book at one point before that and then based the main villain around it. There are just too many coincidences imo for it not to be the case.

Shigechhi is such a ride lol. Alicia's thoughts: Intro - "Aww he's a baby!" When he a menace - "Ooo yeah SMASH dat kid!" Runin with Kira - "Noooo he's just a baby!"

The two things that, to me, make Kira arguibly the best Jojo villain: A) *The Contradiction* Kira wants to lead a quiet life and takes steps to keep it that way, yet everything he is opposes that. He's a literal serial killer who keeps the hands of his victims as his "girlfriends" until they begin to rot and he replaces them. And as if that wasn't enough, he's also a Stand user, which meant that , eventually, he was going to encounter another Stand user. And then the said Stand is literally all about *bombs* . Sure, they're silent to non stand users and can very effectively disintigrate evidence. But it still plays into the idea that Kira as a character contradicts himself. Which makes him really interesting. B) *Just how much we know about him* Its an unwritten rule that the more time and info we have with and about a character, the more the audience can get attached. Well, with Kira, its literally a meme how much we know about him. We know his routine, his job, his favorite sandwich place, hell we even know he likes a glass of warm milk before bed. And the best part? Most of it is mundane. If you remove the fact that he's a *f@cking serial killer* he lives a pretty mundane life. And *that* is the scary part of Kira. Someone like him could be some rando you met out on the street once, a classmate, a coworker, even a neighbour you see every day; and you wouldn't even know it until it was too late...

Fun fact: While DIU manga predates the American Psycho movie, the American Psycho book predates the manga, meaning if Araki was paying any homage, it was to the book. Man is cultured.

Here we go. The David Bowie psycho is here. DUWANG! Edit: the current translation of episode actually implies he sees it, but what is actually said by him is "What? What is happening?", which made most viewers believe he does not see Stands. Then he announces that he has Stand as well when jig is up. And crowd goes wild. Also, small thing to note, yes, he says Killer Queen, referring to a banger of a song. But it is also play of words, since his name is Kira, and he pronounces his stand as "Kira Queen". Up to you if that makes him Queen in your opinion.

Even though Kira is really similar to Patrick Bateman (even having the long monologue) , the JoJo's author didn't use Bateman to write Kira at all. Kira is based on Dawid Bowie, but it's kinda crazy to think that Kira and Bateman are so similar with no inspiration to one another.

Those gymnastic hurdles Kira was hiding under are a bunch of separate "stools" that stack on top of each other, you can just lift them up and hide inside easily, it's like that childrens toy that's a bunch of rings that you stack in order of size.

(No spoilers) This is just a thing you should keep in mind for Kira, Killer Queen's explosions do not make sounds while they explode except for the victim themselves. The anime has added the sound effect just for the audience. So in the future if you see someone not react to the sounds in the anime, they aren't able to hear it.

I think this episode is so interesting, because at some point, we start rooting for Kira to succeed in grabbing the bag because otherwise Kira might probably definitely kill Shigechi otherwise

I'm going to recite what someone did awhile ago because it's one of the neatest things: Killer Queen being a cat man is a great metaphor for Kira himself. The domestic house cat is the most predatory animal on earth, they are one of the only animals that will actively kill smaller animals for sport even if they have abundant food, shelter, sleep, or otherwise no rational motivation for their hunting behavior. They spend most of the day sleeping and usually come off as chilled or relaxed, but they are murder machines that constantly need to hunt or play to avoid being agitated. This is Kira Yoshikage. On the surface he is unassuming, dull, and easygoing, if solitary, and lives an almost comically mundane salary man lifestyle, but he physically can't function without loving up a fresh hand and the moment something interferes with his amusement he becomes incredibly violent.

I was for some reason slightly worried they Alicia and Ant would not get pulled into Kira yet pleasantly surprised to hear "This is the creepiest......he is like the creepiest anime villain" and "I dont like this...I feel sick...." and is just the Intro to Kira....just the intro.

If Kira's Monologue is a reference to American Psycho, it can only be a reference to the 1991 Book, assuming it also has similar lines, because JoJo Part 4 came out in 1992, and the American Psycho Movie came out in 2000

References: Yoshikage Kira: His design is meant to resemble David Bowie, like how Josuke resembles Prince. Killer Queen: Song by Queen I'm glad Alicia noticed the direct reference to American Psycho. Kira's personality is based on Patrick Bateman, and other serial killers in media.

Best batch of part 4 starting NOW (there is one arc of this part that I think is better, but this string of episodes is distilled JoJo greatness) I just love Kira. Stand Name: Harvest Stand Type: Long Range Insectoid Stand User: Shigekiyo "Shigechi" Yangu Reference: Harvest, Neil Young album Destructive Power: E Precision: E Speed: B Range: A Persistence: A Development Potential: C TLDR for Alicia: This insectoid colonial stand is rather undercooked, ability wise, but makes up for that in amount and utility - Harvest is adept at collecting specific objects over an extreme range around its user, making it great for well, harvesting things. The Breakdown: The RPG grindset of stands, Harvest is a colonial stand with a simple goal and purpose - collecting things. Using what appears to be around 500 units, it is capable of collecting specific objects from across a range as wide as Morioh (perhaps even more considering Shigechi's simple approach to the stand) and bringing them back to the user safely, often storing them in a pocket in its forehead for safe keeping. Its strength is disproportionate to its size and It is capable of moving pretty much anything if the user puts their mind too it, such as moving themselves at high speeds across the ground or up walls via Harvest conveyor system. It is even capable of storing liquids, which it can then inject using its needle-like nose. In combat each stand is not incredibly powerful but they are capable of punching chunks out of a normal human's flesh - as a unit, they would theoretically beable to disassemble someone if they put their mind too it. Additionally, being a colonial stand it would take destroying alot of these little guys to even put a dent into th user as all damage or stand effects would be divided by the total amount of members of the stand, making it formidable in the right hands . . .and the wrong ones, if you get what I mean.

Hold on, Part 4 started like a year after the American Psycho novel came out and nearly a decade before the movie. I doubt it’s an homage.

Araki is no stranger to referencing American horror movies, he stated that Yukako was inspired by a Stephen King movie.

Funny thing is the manga of part 4 ran from 1992 to the end of 1995, while the film of American psycho came out in 2000, the book came out 1991, though despite the mangaka, Hirohiko Araki, being very open about his influences he never brought up American Psycho in interviews to my knowledge. I seem to remember Araki mentioned that Yoshikage's personality was inspired by Ted Bundy.

Aight guys you know what to say: My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married. I'm sure josuke would help anyway, he said he would protect the town in his grandpa's name, so unsure he wouldn't sit back if he reasonably could stop Kira. "St. Gentleman" sandwich name is a possible reference to Jonathan Joestar: The Gentleman who sacrificed his life for the his family and saved the Joestar bloodline.

I was about to post the thing, then realized it has already been done. My name is Joseph Joestar. I am controversially immortal thanks to DIO's blood, and nobody knows my exact age at this point. I live in whichever young lady’s house I am in love with at the moment. This includes my own mother, and while I may not have known at the time, it was still a NICE experience. I often guess people's next lines as if they are characters in a movie, MY movie. Extremely powerful villains exist to kill my best friend and even my children, all during an extremely emotional series of events. If I were ever to be in one of these events, I would surely fake my own death for the fun of it.
