I'm pretty sure it's a spiritual sequel considering WAW is canon in the BO universe.

The face Steiner makes when he hears Reznov's name is amazing. He hasn't heard that name in years and suddenly the guy he experimented on says his name, he knows it's not the American soldier Mason, it's the man he betrayed all those years ago Reznov back from the dead for revenge

Plus he knows that if Reznov managed to hijack the brainwashing, then there is NOTHING he can say or do to save himself. Reznov's order doesn't care about the new situation or how useful he could still be, the numbers command Mason kill him and that is exactly what Mason is going to do. After all Steiner designed the system that way to begin with and assuming the hints about JFK are true, he KNOWS it works.

Did you know that while playing as mason, you could shoot at Reznov after his death (for example the missions in Vietnam), that was one of the proof that Reznov wasn't real and it was just Mason's imagination

I love the detail of Steiner keeping his eyes on you til Reznov gets between you two; and that once Reznov steps where Mason stood, the camera switches to a more cinematic view than a first person view to subtly hint at the player no longer watching it as Mason. You’re now just the camera watching the scene

The best COD for sure (when it comes to storyline for me but COD:MW is also good)

Reznov's voice showed he was a man who lost everything and had nothing to lose. And the fact that Mason conveyed that same emotion showed he was quite empathetic to Reznov.

Reznov helped him escape, was one of his only friends in the hellhole of Vorkuta, and inspired Mason with his stories of betrayal and thirst for vengeance

Such a kickass Story, I remember playing this game for the first time when I was 9 back in 2010. I was a history nerd so I loved all the JFK stuff.

Can i just say I FUCKING LOVE HOW when reznov comes in in Masons side Mason's POV or 1st person camera acts like a 3rd person camera when Reznov comes in from the left Its like Reznov took control over his body and you the player are no longer in control of mason because you hear the numbers and the brain wash is kicking in. After all these years i never realise this detail.

Homie let me borrow this after school, beat it in like 8 hours. The pure confusion and shivers I had at the end, I wish I could feel it again.

When I was a kid I remember seeing bits and pieces of the game while my brother played it, but it was too hard for me and I was never really a COD kind of kid besides playing bits and pieces of multiplayer. I just had the urge to buy this game again recently and I absolutely loved it and I'm kinda saddened. This is the type of game that sticks with you.

Have you even noticed how smooth motion of disarming Mason was? Imagine that, in the game, he was a very dangerous man being one of the best people in special forces I went through some materials on youtube once in the past and I've learned that Treyarch had some veteran guy in their studio. Probably he was after Vietnam, and was providing them consultancy in such stuff like reloading a weapon with one hand while your other hand is gone. Imo this gave first Black Ops huge advantage. All these movements and unconventional arms makes this game still so spicy

I know it would’ve been cool if Mason said something like “Reznov sends his regards.” Or “Reznov says hello.”, then he kills Dragovich.

This was one of the GREATEST story lines in cod history. The foreshadowing and all the backstories are just out of this world.

Literally the only call of duty game that i can say i loved,i just remember how blown my mind was when it revealed reznov was never there,that he died in Vorkuta. "Dragovich,Steiner,Kravchenko..ALL of these..."Men"...MUST DIE!!"

Bro that violin in the background while they're capturing Mason is just so dope played it over and over

This campaign is the best! I LOVE the companionship between Mason and Reznov and Reznov and Woods!

It’s scene always made me sad, because Mason was truly thinking he was doing right by his old friend. In all reality his friend was dead and he was brain washed. I loved that game so much.

Here is something I’ve been wondering for a 11 years. When you play the Hue City mission and you go to the end of the hallway to the defectors room. How does the Vietnamese soldier who hit Mason with a chair die? Reznov stabbed him from the back while Mason was on the ground, but yet Reznov was said to just be a hallucination.

Joshua Snyder The same reason Mason sees Steiner get shot from the side when he was literally holding the gun doing it himself. What Mason is actually doing is never what he sees. Same thing in every situation. He probably just killed him in some other way and imagines Reznov doing it

I always took scenes like this for Mason's memories when he's interrogated. So he remembers it as if he didn't kill the guy and Reznov was there but in reality he was never knocked out and killed that soldier himself

I used to wonder why Reznov used his left hand to kill Steiner. Then I saw _World at War_ and understood, he wanted his revenge to feel as wholesome as possible, his finger squeezing the trigger...

When I was a kid and first played this game, I did it without sound so learning what the story was actually about made so much more sense.

This call of duty was a masterpiece. The same cannot be said for just about every other title in the franchise. If only this level of effort was put into the modern line up.

Imagine dragovich brainwashed reznov and (And mason dies in vorkuta) reznov says this to steiner: MY NAME IS ALEX MASON AND I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE

Notice how Steiner freaks out when Reznov (Mason) tells him who he identifies as. This startles Steiner as he realises the MK-Ultra was not effective on Masons conscious - Reznov was the more powerful alterer.

Watching this really makes me think how messed up brainwashing is. Mason was 2 people at once. Even Reznov took full control of Mason. How it makes you do things you would never do. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it to this day. Reznov taking complete control of Mason is really confusing and messed up.
