My MUST GROW Tomato Varieties of 2022

Ойын-сауық

Tomatoes are the stars of my garden.
I used to not understand the craze around tomatoes until I decided to grow one for the first time! There’s nothing like a homegrown tomato.
Cherry tomatoes are my favorite. We mostly dehydrate them and enjoy them as garden candy snacks.
I am looking for recommendations for a meaty tomato that has a good salty, savory flavor! I’d love to hear some of your favorite must grow varieties.
I have limited space to grow and unfortunately right after I made this video my landlord told me she will be moving us out in June during mid-gardening season.
Idk what the future holds for this garden but this year is gonna teach me a lot about how to be flexible through life’s everchanging waves.
Some of my favorite seed companies:
Baker Creek
PineTree Seeds
MIGardener
Seed Savers Exchange
Johnnys Seeds
Little Shop of Seeds

I want tomatoes to taste very tangy and acidic tasting, like they tasted to me as a child, now in my 70's.........I lived in N.GA....red clay area then, and tomatoes seem to taste sweet and wet now-a-days, here in S.GA..........any suggestions anyone ......and especially this sweet girl doing this video.........there is nothing like a very tangy acid tasting tomato -- in the whole world 🍅

Black Krim Original Strain! Smokey, earthy, salty, rich and so luscious! They are the best tomato I've ever tasted. They will fit the bill perfectly. Just be careful who your seed source is. Not every company is selling authentic Black Krim.

I enjoyed the video. I have over 50 types of tomato seeds 🍅. Last yr my favs were Cherokee Purple, Blue Beauty, Dr. Wyche’s, & White Tomesol. My worst was Brad’s Atomic ( productive, disgusting 🤮 ). I’m trying to find a good cherry tomato. I swapped seeds in Facebook groups, so I could get the popular ones. I’m growing the Sungold, Isis, Chocolate Cherry, Black Cherry, Everglade, Chadwick, Yellow Pear, Sweet 100, Gardner’s Delight.

Hello, neighbor, from Illinois! I’m growing about 30 varieties of maters this year; this will be my biggest garden yet. I’m growing Black Cherry for the first time, I grew Sun Sugar last year, and I wasn’t crazy about the flavor, but that can be attributed to my own mistakes. I love the Yellow Pear fresh, mine turned out very sweet and flavorful, far from mild. I like to grow uncommon varieties, too, and completely relate to growing things you can only find in your yard. I’m growing Black Beauty for the first time this year. I’m pleasantly surprised that you love the flavor because I’ve heard that it’s more of a novelty to grow and doesn’t taste great. Cherokee Purple is one of my favorite maters! Super meaty, savory, just fantastic. One that is even better, if you haven’t grown it: Black Krim is a must!

Brandywines are the "king of tomatoes." I plant both the pink and yellow varieties. About a 1/3 of the tomato plants that I plant are Brandywines. The others are Paul Robeson, Black Krim, and Mortgage Lifter. I also plant "dwarf" varieties such as: Rosella Purple, Golden Gypsy, Tasmanian Chocolate, Boronia, BrandyFred, and Firebird Sweet. Of the dwarf varieties my favorite is the Golden Gypsy. It is so acid, it will cut your tongue like a fresh pineapple would, yet the flavor is so special and unique. I am trying for the first time the following cherry tomato varieties this season: SunGold, Honeydrop and SuperSweet 100. I am especially looking forward to trying the SunGold. I've heard and read so much about them.

Black Krim is a top favorite of mine, I replaced the Cherokee purple with it. While I loved the Cherokee purple, I found the yields of black krim far superior and the taste and appearance were almost identical. I love chocolate cherry, that is the only cherry variety I grow now...it's funny because both Cherokee purple and black cherry (your top picks) are almost identical to mine. I have a lot of new varieties in the mix for this year, will keep you posted if my top picks change.

This year I plan on planting about a dozen of the big names when it comes to taste tomatoes, but up until this point for eating my favorite is Super Fantastic. I lived most of my life about 40 miles south of Chicago but retired and moved near Kalamazoo Michigan and in both places the places that carry starter plants in the spring have tons of them, but on KZread there's almost nothing about them. They tend to split, but I always planted more plants to make up for it

Great show... I am very experienced with heirloom tomatoes or open pollinated tomatoes, several decades.... My sweetest big tomato last year here in east Tennessee war the Gary Osena tomato, it is a cross between Brandywine and Cherokee purple, awesome..... But I have many recommendations from the last few decades... German Pink, Thorburns terracotta, black seaman, Lucid gem (Brad Gates tomato), Virginia sweet stripey, black krim, etc.... Cherry tomatoes- sungold, isis candy and sun sugar are my favorites on those... Great show by the way...

For a dark smoky awesome variety, try Rosella purple from the dwarf tomato project. It's so awesome, produced lots of medium/large fruits and is a dwarf, which means no pruning and only a small stake is needed to support it. Flavor was amazing, I've heard that it's almost exactly the same as Cherokee purple. Btw, sunpeach is really good. Very productive, doesn't split or drop at all, beautiful and really delicious. It was my favorite cherry (liked it better than sungold)

Two unusual cherries that are definitely worth trying: Brad's Atomic Grape - Probably the most delicious tomato I've ever tasted, and also unusually gorgeous - long pointed fruit with purple, green and yellow striping (from Wild Boar Farms) Michael Pollen - A pointy mutant of Green Zebra that was so productive (even in my bad tomato zone) that I actually had too much fruit! Tastes tangy when slightly unripe, then gets smoky as it ripens. This is a pretty large elongated cherry, but I bet it would be great dried! My two cents. Love your channel. Thank you! Alys

@@findingbeautyinagarden3639 I wish I had saved some fresh ones, I would send them to you! At least for me, Brad's Atomic Grape was sweet & savory with a slight tang. Thankfully no beer or yeast at all! ....I liked it so much I was going to give it a try again this season, but they didn't offer the plants at Tomato-Mania (awesome event at some nurseries in Ca!) I may try again next year, but I would say in retrospect that with limited space and so may new varieties it might NOT be worth your time after all....Here's more info on my experience last season: It started out with a great fruit-set, but was not very productive as the season went on and mildew was an ongoing struggle even though I was proactive with neem oil. Other tomatoes in the same raised bed (all conditions identical) did well, so it was either the plant I bought or it's a weak variety. Disclaimer: I'm by the beach, so almost ANY tomato plant will present a constant battle with powdery mildew and diseases from leaf-hoppers :( Hope your garden's off to a great start!
